Ammodramus savannarum
This Grasshopper Sparrow was photographed in west Houston a couple of weeks ago. It is definitely one of my favorite species of sparrows largely because I love the colors.

This grasshopper lives on the patio between a few potted plants so that's why he's brown...I'm guessing. I think if he lived in the plants or on the grass as his name implies, he would be green. Either way, he's a beauty and boy can he hop. Grasshoppers have such unusual vertical striped eyes.
This one was clinging to two Zinnia heads in the public gardens at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Tennessee.

Grasshopper Warblers are not the easiest of subjects to photograph as they spend most of their time skulking around in vegetation. Usually the only clue that you have they are around is when one starts to sing, which to me sounds like a spinning bicycle wheel. But even when they draw attention to themselves by singing, more often than not they sing from a hidden position. Sometimes they sing from an open perch, but the really difficult bit is to photograph one that isn't singing. This one had been singing from a Bilberry bush but obligingly it sat around for a few seconds afterwards allowing a fleeting photo-opportunity before it dropped back into cover. You can see the beautifully freckled back here, which gave rise to its scientific name naevia, which means freckled. This was taken early on a dull morning just a couple of miles from my house. Another thing I have found is that when it is sunny with great light, they tend to stay hidden.

Spur-throated Grasshoppers (part of the Short-horned Grasshopper family) are the most common species of grasshopper in all of North America. It is known mostly for the damage that it inflicts to crops in the Midwest states. The Spur-throated Grasshopper is yellow, orange, or green with additional shades of brown or red. The body may be spectacularly colored in some cases, with bands, spots, or blotches over all of it, and antennae are short.
All comments are appreciated. TIA.
Grasshopper Sparrow
(Ammodramus savannarum) GRSP
These little showmen (or women) were along the fenceposts in one small area in rural PA where they belted out their not too pleasing songs as if in a singing competition. I don't see them often but unlike some sparrows, they are easy to id with their lack of foreheads, large bills, unstreaked buffy breasts and bold eyerings. Their habitat is dry grasslands or scrub.
Found at Plunkett Conservation Park in Cedar Creek. Queensland, Australia.
Bark-mimicking Grasshopper - Coryphistes ruricola?

Grasshopper And Rain…
The Differential Grasshopper live as adults 2-3 months. They are an important part of the food chain for animals like foxes, raccoons, birds, bats, predatory insects and humans. Grasshoppers are a great source of protein, rich in healthy fats like omega-3s, and are considered a more sustainable alternative to traditional livestock. Pound for pound, grasshoppers contain as much protein as lean beef. Adults are capable of dispersal flights of over 100 miles, and heights have been observed at 1400 feet. They have no ears, so they hear from a part of their stomach near their legs, spit at their enemies , have five really cool eyes that can see to the front, both sides, and to the back. They have two large compound eyes, which are made up of many tiny lenses and have three smaller simple eyes (ocelli) located between the compound eyes. They get their water typically from the moisture in their food, such as plants, dew, and fog.
