This Grasshopper Sparrow was calling from a shrubby field at Spindletop in Lexington, and was very cooperative when a tape was played, flying right up to this fence. He shifted positions to look at his surroundings, but was quickly disappointed and decided to take off.
Grasshoppers are a group of insects belonging to the suborder Caelifera. They are amongst what are possibly the most ancient living groups of chewing herbivorous insects, dating back to the early Triassic, around 250 million years ago

Found a couple of grasshoppers deep in the foliage at the park. Couldn't get the best POV due to the foliage being in the way but had to give it a go.
I visited RSPB Bar Mouth Hide - at the mouth of the river Bann for the first time today - the surrounding wetlands are great.
Instagram user @Martyd999 had spotted some Grasshopper warblers there the day before and thought it would be worth a visit. A kindly RSPB ranger pointed me to the right locale.

Key information
The high, insect-like reeling song of the grasshopper warbler is the best clue to its presence. Even when you hear one it can be difficult to locate it due to the ventriloquial effect of its singing. If seen on migration it moves like a little mouse, creeping through the foliage. Dramatic population declines have made this a Red List species.

Insects

Length:12.5-13.5cm

This little grasshopper will live another day, even though I found it again eating the leaves of my newly planted dwarf lemon tree. It was reasonably cooperative as a photo subject so I suppressed my urges to squash it. And I continued to suggest it go eat leaves off the orange tree, which is well established and could handle the food donation. ;-(

(Chorthippus brunneus). About 2cm long.
I think this is a Common Field Grasshopper - its not an insect family I have any knowledge of
Last summer when the Joe Pye weed was new, the Differential grasshoppers (Melanoplus differentialis) were so common we could hear them hitting the glass windows of the sunroom. This summer even though one Joe Pye weed got as tall as the eaves, the grasshopper were few and far between.
