From the Flickr Philadelphia: Charm of the City photo walk the other night...

We had a very serviceable sunset that evening, a nice closing to a beautiful day.

An attempt to be artsy: I took a picture of a tangle of oak branches, converted the image to 1-bit color, then back to 8-bit/channel color then colored the non-black areas with a blue gradient.

The is one of my own paintings that I found as an example of a gradient perception of depth. Keeping the front plane consistently stark pushes the distance as seen through the windows. The repeated shapes of the trees and bushes past the darkened wall create a gradual gradient effect that leads into the far landscape. The consistent gradations of color and light add to the gradated effect that the bushes and trees have on the space.

This park is 2 blocks from my apartment. I can walk out my front door, look to my right, climb a 2 block hill, and be in a forest overlooking the city. How did I not find this park sooner!?!

From a dear friend for my birthday.
