a tiny shell elephant. sooo cute. looks just like my chi chi guinea pig (r.i.p.).
found thrifted. an adored piece in my collection.
My second USB Sugru sculpture. Perhaps not *entirely* convincing as a duck - the body is designed to fit as well as possible into the small rectangular space next to a USB socket - but I'm pretty happy with it all the same.
The beak was hastily carved from a nearby stick, and treated with linseed oil for protection.
June 3, 2008 ~ After I took his picture, he FLEW into my face and scared me to death!!!!
I guess he was paying me back... and I was just going to get my magnifying glass!!!!!

I found this jumping spider running across this dusty glass surface. He paused a moment to allow me a few shots.
(Too bad about the dust, but I wasn't sure I would have been able to catch him, clean the glass, and get him to pose again.)

.... make sure to keep your eggs warm ! :)
It was quite cold this morning (2C) when I left the house to take a longer walk. While I walked and wished that I had taken my gloves, I suddenly had the idea for this photo. I think the Easter egg looks very cute in woolly hat and scarf, in fact much too cute to be eaten.
A friend of mine brought me some bananas off of the tree in his backyard which made me smile. I'm not sure what var-eye-ity they are.

I'm not sure where all the googly eyes have got to since Halloween. I wanted to cover a sheet of paper in them but they seem to have gone into hiding.
This wasn't going to be my photo of the day but haven't got anything better so have amended this one.
A year ago today I took a random photo.
I really have no explanation for this, other than to say that I had a few too many drinks and art supplies...

A deep space image of a galaxy that is subject to gravitational lensing (shot through my own telescope whilst on the roof of my house... honest!).
Detailed viewing is kind of cool.
We are energized by our sightings of the oystercatchers. Suddenly an Osprey is flying overhead. We watch as he makes a slow U-turn in the air. As a group Jerry, W9, and I chant "Please land please land please land." And he does. He takes his sweet time eating his fresh fish lunch. My neck is sort of killing me and the heavy camera is stressing my shoulder. I don't dare go back to the car to get the tripod. I breathe and do my best not to scrunch up my shoulders. I balance on a low wall. W9 and I are clicking off shots.
A half dozen grey haired folks meander by as one gentlemen stops to ask about the .... OK. Someone is asking about my gear. Life Pro tip: to garner more attention pop for the Canon lens instead of the Sigma. You will have more total strangers wave at you and try to strike up a conversation.
I am being peppered with questions. I can feel W9 smirking as if to say, “your turn,” even though my eyes are on the bird. Grey hair launches into tales of hiking 6 miles barefoot in the snow to develop film. Unable to afford the store bought chemicals he used coffee and laundry soda.
I finally say, without prejudice, that I'm a bird watcher, not a photographer.
...I have lost track of time and place. The spell is broken when the Osprey finishes his leisurely lunch and lifts off leaving not a scrap for the crows.
"Caffeine, that magical component of coffee, tea, and many soft drinks, is an excellent reducer and can work well as a developing agent. Vitamin C can also do the job, as well as vanilla extract, iron supplement tablets, and a number of other common materials when properly applied."

At the beach yesterday we created this lol. The bright yellow rope 'hair' gave me the idea. I had to replace the stick arms several times as Olive kept 'helping' :)

Flash fired with ebay remote. 580EX II at 1/2 power from picture right and through a white translucent umbrella.
Just feeling a bit silly. I saw libraryann's version and having a lot of these googly eyes laying around after Savanah's party I figured I'd do my first copycat picture.
Or maybe I've just gone insane after 234 days!

My basil has become quite the hunting ground for spiders. I welcome them because they keep the bad, leaf-munching bugs in check.
I'm not sure what specific species of jumping spider this is, but from a non-conclusive Google search, I think it might be a "thin-spined Jumping Spider." If anyone can help me identify it, I would really appreciate the help.

LOST AND FOUND: a pair of googly eyes and one yellow beanie (not pictured)
I actually know exactly who they belong to. Brian O'Hara and Derek Wood left them behind after a real silly time after the Smashbox Studios party.
So...what's a photog to do with silly props left at her house? USE THEM, DUH!

A saucer-eyed stare from an exceedingly "cute" little spider.
I think this is a zebra jumping spider (Salticus scenicus). Can anyone confirm?

A little tan jumping spider (this guy was rather grey though). My favorite kind! I love their eyes.

A hot chilli called Apache, it just cried out for googly eyes and I found the pigeon feather on the lawn. He was lying in this bowl, but popped up to say hello :)
Banana wasn't too happy being balanced on a tripod for a photo but I assured him it would be alright and it was for a good cause because today WAH is visiting the group Fruits and Vegetables on a Tripod
