Hello my friends todays painting is of something I think we are are guilty of one time or another be it a great meal we didn't want to end or a dessert that made us sing out a tune, and just stuffed ourselfs silly, but when we eat like that more often than not we can be said we are committing Gluttony, and its derived from the Latin gluttire meaning to gulp down or swallow, means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or intoxicants to the point of waste. In some Christian denominations, it is considered one of the seven deadly sins,on a interesting note Gluttony is not universally considered a sin; depending on the culture, it can be seen as either a vice or a sign of status.St. Thomas Aquinas reiterated the list of six ways to commit gluttony:

Praepropere - eating too soon.

Laute - eating too expensively

Nimis - eating too much.

Ardenter - eating too eagerly

Studiose - eating too daintily

Forente - eating wildly, well my friends there you have it,now I feel bad about that strawberry ice cream I'm looking forward to eating tonight, take care and carry a small fork and spoon, steve.18x24in.

He rose his hand to the god's offer and as the succulent berries fell from the sky, he realized he had enraged the entities. Their only offer to him was fruit that had rotted.

These are not colors I would prefer to shoot with. Generally I like darker, but today time just wasn't on my side.

GLUTTONY:

A sin of over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. It is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food, or its withholding from the needy.

6/9 of the series

Created for the movie Magnum Opus which is the story of an ex-marine turned artist and cryptographer. I was tasked with making his series.

Private Sattler played by Dustin Ingram was the main antagonist. A soldier turned evil and who took the fingers of his kills as trophies.

It was the first day of production out at Blue Cloud Ranch www.bluecloud.com which was our location to stage the Afghanistan scenes. We only had one day.

One very long day.

I had to create his necklace of fingers which for some reason they decided not to show because it gave his intentions away. Or something. Too bad because I was quite proud of it. I only had a few minutes to get the shot on a single roll of 120 film. It had to work because the actor was wrapped just after it.

BACKGROUND

___________

Six years ago I was asked to create a nine piece series for the film Magnum Opus.

The concept of the film sounded intriguing - An ex-marine and war photographer saw some terrible things go down in Afghanistan, retired to become an artist (and cryptologist) and paint a series of works where he would secretly encode the narrative into the paintings themselves. Kind of like pulling an Edward Snowden.

And I thought this was awesome.

In reading the script I was confused as to how the main character's art technique was exactly like mine and the director's response (who was a friend and collector of mine) said, "Well, we based the main character on you."

Strobist:

Two shots here.

Shot number one (the bottle) was shot with a 4x5 on chrome film and was lit with a single hot light boomed out over the bottle with beam narrowed down to form spot on the background. I put a flag between this light and the bottle with a c-stand.

Shot number two was the goldfish. I shot him with a RZ67 on chrome film too. He was not just lit... but blasted with light. About 3000 watt seconds worth from a Speedotron 2403 pack. I boomed it (the head) out over the aquarium and had to use so much power due to the tiny aperture I was shooting at in order to get the fish good and sharp. Man it took a whole lot of patience to get him just the way I wanted. Shot up a few rolls of 120 film to get it.

Merged the two in PS. Put the smile on the fishes face in Photoshop.

I wasn't sure what I was looking at when I saw a two tailed fish dead in the seaweed. After I pulled it out, I saw the fish on the right had tried to swallow a fish its own size. Looks like that wasn't a good idea!

la gourmandise d'héloïse ...

The awesome dr nik chose The Seven Deadly Sins for FGR today - I have to confess to a gluttonous streak, especially where food is concerned. I can take or leave most chocolate but I do have a weakness for mini-eggs at the moment..

Also for my Rogue Players pick which is be poladroid! It's a great fun program to use - download it for free from www.poladroid.net - there's a windows version as well as a mac one now. And for TRP tech theme of the week - Unusual Cropping.

And yes I really did buy that many bags. There's actually another two bags out of shot...and I have a little tube of them to go in my handbag...

The world is starving,

We don’t care at all.

We go on consuming

Until we fall.

Quelques gourmandises auxquelles il n'est pas facile de résister.

Chii has eaten so many candies that of course she feels sick now...

The squirrels were back at it this morning grabbing oak blossoms with both paws!! The colors are in their prime for the next few days.

Oreos make me feel better because I'm having a bad day...due to the car issue (see previous photo). I'm at major risk for gluttony right now. But hey, a few extra cookies are deserved, I think.
