My friend and I went to a deli outside of Boston that serves 5 lb. hamburgers. The challenge is this: eat the burger (5 lbs.) and the fries that come with it (another 5 lbs.) within an hour and it's free and named after you. Apparently someone has actually finished it since we went two years ago. That's scary.
As it turns out, it wasn't that good and I didn't need 40g of fat at 10pm. Those Hebrew National's pack a punch!

This week I'm exploring the Seven Deadly Sins through self portraiture. Gluttony is my first....mmmmmmmmm....

This is an image from my shoot I did the other day in the studio, I had planned formal wear but last minute in the studio I had to change it to accessories and panicked! :os Had a good laugh with the above image, its meant to represent gluttony! hehe. Let me know what u think........ Have more to put up when eventually get to edit them....

The sin: Gluttony is senseless or mindless consumption. It differs from greed in that it is not the taking that is important; with gluttony posession is the key.
Concept: I originally thought I would photograph meat; perhaps bacon or a raw steak. But my desire to have a pleasant (or at least non-shocking) image despite the portrayal of sin guided me away from this. Still, the original idea of "blobs of fat" guided me towards a spherical or round shape, with sticky/liquid goo, drawn ever inwards towards a sucking maw.
Raw material: The notion of spheres led me to cherries -- and who doesn't just keep eating cherries in season until they are sick of them? Thus, as far as I am concerned, they are the perfect representation of gluttony. I used maraschino cherries for the shoot because of their translucency and placed them in a transparent glass bowl along with substantial quantities of syrup. Actually, I tried them on a plate, in a goblet, in a ceramic bowl and in many other poses for several hundred test exposures. But the glass bowl exposure was used.
Photography: Handheld with an 85mm lens using extension tubes for macro focusing. The cherries were lit from the side by a strobe bouncing off a large white card for the topside reflections, and lit from underneath the glass bowl by another strobe to show their translucency and colour more directly. I particularly liked this method as it made the cherries glow from below, something like a candy lava flow.
Post-processing: The transformation gave me the "sucking maw" I wanted (after hours of fine-tuning of parameters), but the intense redness of the cherries needed to be toned down, not only to make the result more surreal but to differentiate it from the strong reds of Ira. Thus the deepening of colour, making the maraschino cherries a purplish black.
Warping transformations: RhoSource = K * SIN( J * ATAN( 1 / RhoImage ) ), aspect ratio alteration, 3D rotation and projection, focal blur and vignetting.
Another idea i had using the fat man model. Plenty of treats around after xmas so thought i would make use of some!

Mrs. Flibble was not happy. In fact, you could say she was angry (Wrath) at the scene before her. Who was this lazy gorilla in her bed (Sloth) that had the cheek to swap her beloved picture of Mr. Flibble for one of himself? (Vanity)
Mr. Gorilla seemed momentarily oblivious, he only had eyes for Gerald the baby gorilla who had bananas he wanted (Envy). "Bananas... Yum", thought Mr. Gorilla eating his last nana (Greed) after what had been a veritable feast (Gluttony).
Oh well, never mind, best settle down to this month's latest edition of PlayGorilla (Lust).

This picture was taken for a Seven Deadly Sins project. My wife was very co-operative for this one depicting Gluttony. She was so co-operative we had a couple of practice shots and she went through three boxes of cream cakes (joke).
