Worm-eating Warbler

Helmitheros vermivorum

For the last few years, we've hit Redden State Forest during the Delaware Birdathon for a few reliable birds there - Summer Tanager, Prairie Warbler and this beauty: A worm-eating warbler This one came right down into the dirt right in front of us, grabbed this caterpillar and proceeded to have lunch. No, he didn't share.

Often in the media and photography, the seven deadly sins are glamorised and shown as desirable traits to have. Therefore, I developed my concept around the words “deadly” and “sin” to portray the idea of suffering and punishment for possessing these qualities. The stark, bare, and pale elements of the images brings the focus to the vivid red blood, drawing back to the main concept of punishment. The photographs revolve around the idea of an, otherwise unmarked, life being stained or tainted by the ‘deadly sins’ to oppose the overused, idealised, and romanticised depiction.

Gluttony: An inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Unit 3 - PortraitureSub Theme: Food

Okay, so this didn't turn out exactly like i wanted.

But I'm still pretty happy with the shots.

I'm continuing with my exploration of food, in particular gluttony.

for the idea :)

What is more gluttonous than a mid-night snack!?

Common Merganser drake (Mergus merganser) steals the catch of a gluttonous hen that had been trying to consume this enormous goldfish/koi in Munson Pond, Kelowna, BC. FWIW, I had no idea such huge goldfish existed here!! The story is worth the limited quality of this distant panorama, methinks....

I couldn't help myself.

Todays Random fact: I hate spray whipped cream...I really only like Cool Whip. How is that for a deep dark secret?

Inspired by the film "Se7en" we had an assignment in our photoclub to shoot one of the seven deadly sins:

- gluttony or vraatzucht

- greed or hebzucht

- sloth or traagheid

- wrath or boosheid,

- pride or trots,

- lust or wellust

- envy or jaloersheid

I 'recruited' my son to eat this chocolate eggs. For those who are concerned of his health... He didn't eat the chocolate. After all Easter is on Sunday ahead of us.

The church of St Mary at Bottesford, Leicestershire. One of a series of carvings of the Seven Deadly Sins. This one is, I think, Gluttony. The 15th century spire is in the background.

For Utata weekend sins

I've been doing my own versions of the Seven Sins for the Integrity 7 Sins event on the 11th November. Here's the base photo for one of my concepts for Gluttony. Agnes fits a lot of the sins but I chose gluttony for her since it means excess, over consumption and over indulgence in everything, not just food. That seemed particularly apt for Agnes. _DSC1647

for Macro Monday's "The 7 Deadly Sins"

Gluttony is represented in all her glory as she is enjoying the sweet pleasures of life…food. Set in a dark lit cafe with wine bottles in the back ground and a beautifully lit green table Gluttony is gazing at the viewer in a bewitching manner as she is licking her finger. The idea of over indulgence is represented by her having two cappuccinos instead of one, and the repeating bottles of wine in the back allude to this as well.

Without a doubt, the messiest photoshoot yet! Credit to my boyfriend who was an angel throughout this shoot by helping me out!

ok, here's what happened. the ssuc theme is gluttony. the month is coming to an end so i knew i had to get my ssuc shot done soon. just as i was about to leave work, someone who needs cheering up said to take a photo of something funny at the end of a conversation that also mentioned a girl with a pants obsession. in my head, that turned into a gluttony for pants. so i posed with lots of pants. emm. yeah. it's a bit odd and i am pretty sure it is entirey inappropriate to be cheering said person up with a photo of pants. but it might just make them chuckle. and hey, it means i've done my ssuc shot. hurrah

these are the gluttony socks from the first shipment of the seven deadly spins club

In the Christian religions, it is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food, or it’s withholding from the needy.

We roll so deep: cases upon cases of Diet Coke in my office break room. I'm not kidding around about how much we drink.

Jan 4 - 004/366

Well today has been fun, again it's grey and cold and miserable outside so my daughter decided to build one of the K'Nex sets that she got for Christmas. 8 years + it says on the box. I thought that meant it was recommended for children above 8 eight years, on second thoughts I think it's an estimate of the time it takes to build. Mick has spent a full day on the floor building a rollercoaster. And pretty spectacular it is too. Three feet high and four feet wide, it fills the living room, the dog has spent the day sat on the sofa because every time he's tried to walk anywhere he's trodden on part of it and been shouted at. So he retreated to the relative safety on the sofa where both him and the rollercoaster are safe.

What have I done then you ask? Well I chipped in my opinion every now and then, usually when I thought it was going wrong, which resulted in me being shouted at as well so I joined the dog on the sofa, and opened a tin of chocolates.

So what to photograph today, I took some pieces of the K'Nex but they were mainly grey, black and blue and not very cheerful, and when I wandered off with them into the kitchen where the available light was better I got shouted at again, so that left me with the tin of chocolates (well, what was left of them that is) which were bright colours in shiny wrappers. Perfect! And perfect in more ways than one as the monthly challenge for my photography group this month is the seven deadly sins and how to represent them all in photographic form.

So gluttony it is, I 'bagged' one of the sins before I ate all the chocolates, mind you, maybe an empty tin would have represented gluttony slightly better. As it is I hope the weather tomorrow is slightly better as the dog and I have got to make amends for a day sat on the sofa eating chocolates.

Well on my part it was in the name of art!

Taken on the South Bank of the Thames on the 2nd January, the refuse collectors need to catch up after the Bank Holiday.

The idea came from the Make up Artist and friend,Stella Os.

You already know her,she had been an assistant for lots of my captures.

She found the symbolism of colors for the 7 Deadly Sins, and she wanted my face to be the canvas for her colorful idea.

She knows well that my face has millions of expressions so it was a deal for a great collaboration.

The portraits are simple yet tempting.(At least we hope so.)
