The wolverine (Gulo gulo) is a medium sized powerful animal that resembles a small bear but is actually the largest member of the weasel family. The wolverine can be found in isolated arctic and alpine regions of northern Canada, Alaska, Siberia, and Scandinavia; they are also native to European Russia, the Baltic countries, the Russian Far East, northeast China and Mongolia.
The wolverine, also referred to as glutton, carcajou, skunk bear, or quickhatch, is a stocky, muscular animal with short legs, and a broad, rounded head. Adult wolverine are roughly the size of a medium dog, with a typical length of 65 - 87 cm, a tail of 17 - 26 cm, and a weight of 10 - 25 kg, although exceptionally large males can weigh over 30 kg. Males up to 30 percent larger than females.
They are well adapted to the cold habitat of their northern range with a thick, bushy coat and broad, hairy paws. The glossy coat is dark brown with a paler stripe across the rump and along the sides of the body; some individuals have white throat patches.
The wolverine generally eats mice, rats and other small mammals, birds and eggs during the summer months when these small animals are in abundance. During the bitter winter however, when snow covers the ground, the wolverine tends to hunt larger animals such as reindeer (caribou), sheep and moose.

As we near the final few months of our 365 project (sounds like a commencement speech, doesn't it?), I had started to think beyond December 31st.
The last time we did this (7 long years ago), I kept shooting for MAYBE a month. After that, I put down the camera, and did not really pick it up again in earnest until September of last year.
That is way too long. I can't let that happen again.
So I'm throwing ideas around in my head, and the first 1 is 365 Days of Costco Pizza. I know, sounds boring. But I could see it be both creatively AND gastronomically challenging. I am looking into Kickstarter funding as we speak. Please stay tuned for more details.
This was just a joke. But that pizza is no joke. Damn, it's good!

I think I'm a glutton for punishment. These are such a pain in the ass to do. I wish they didn't look so damn cool! Went a little over the top with this one. I did it HDR. It took 14 frames to complete the equirectangular panorama (360° by 180°) with 5 exposures to a frame. So this is took a total of 70 photos to complete.
This is just the park right across the street from my apartment. Not terribly interesting, but I needed more practice with these. I think it came out alright! No noticeable stitching errors this time!
This weekend I'm going up to Wisconsin to drink and eat like a glutton at a buffet table so I figured I'd post another photo today.
This is Big Sur just south of Carmel-by-the-Sea on Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). I'm not sure if the word beautiful quite defines this place as the coastal drive is absolutely phenomenal. If you've never been, put it on your bucket list. I'm willing to bet that no one ever forgets their first time seeing Big Sur.
And, Flickr really knows how to tone down my work because this looks lightened and drab.

The northern gannet (Morus bassanus) is a seabird and the largest member of the gannet family, Sulidae. It has the same colours as the Australasian gannet and is similar in appearance.
Nesting in colonies as large as 60,000 pairs on both sides of the north Atlantic this bird undertakes seasonal migrations and is a spectacular high-speed diver.
Old names for the northern gannet include solan and solan goose.
They have a maximum lifespan of up to 35 years.
The gannets are large white birds with yellowish heads; black-tipped wings; and long bills. Northern gannets are the largest seabirds in the North Atlantic, with a wingspan of up to 2 metres (6.6 ft). Gannets hunt fish by diving from a height into the sea and pursuing their prey underwater.
Gannets have a number of adaptations which enable them to do this:
no external nostrils, they are located inside the mouth instead;
air sacs in the face and chest under the skin which act like bubble wrapping, cushioning the impact with the water;
positioning of the eyes far enough forward on the face for binocular vision, allowing them to judge distances accurately.
Gannets can dive from a height of 30 metres (98 ft), achieving speeds of 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) as they strike the water, enabling them to catch fish much deeper than most airborne birds.
The gannet's supposed capacity for eating large quantities of fish has led to "gannet" becoming a disapproving description of somebody who eats excessively, similar to "glutton".

I think I'm a glutton for punishment. I discovered my gym shoe still hurts to wear...but I wore it. I was walking up and down hill and my arch was aching something fierce, but I just couldn't pass up all the photo opportunities!!! Anddd I am going out again for sunset! LOL
This build was a pain to complete! I tried to recreate Guzzlord's many wacky design details as well as possible. It may not be 100% accurate in proportions, but I think I was able to capture this Ultrabeast's essence pretty well. His whole mouth cavity glows in the dark, which is pretty cool.

40145 (LO) - 6S41 (1034? SX Haverton Hill Exchange Sidings - Leith South Yard, which was formed of an RBX barrier vehicle, 24 loaded TTAs, another barrier vehicle & CAR Brake Van on the rear as the train was dangerous goods) - Newcastle - 1110 (allowed my six minutes to catch 46017 on 1M73 to Liverpool Street [as fas as York]) - 02/08/82.
The overnight journey from home to Newcastle (second time) took over 13 hours & due to a lack of digital camera or tripod the following trains were not recorded:-
305436 - Broxbourne to London Liverpool St via Seven Sisters.
31177 & 155 - London Kings Cross to Leeds (1L22 to Bradford).
31181 - Leeds to Selby (1D52 to Hull).
47201 - Selby to Newcastle (1S12 from Kings Cross).
43118 & 067 - Newcastle to York via Sunderland & Middlesborough (0543 to London Kings Cross).
47446 - York to Newcastle (1S21 : 0840 to Aberdeen).
The blue skies of early morning are rapidly being replaced by high clouds, which is disappointing as we have three West Coast Railways "Duffs" on the Hertford Loop today (47848 - 5Z73, 826 & 802 t&t 1Z66), so as the car is still playing up (cooling fan starts witihin seconds of starting car & takes six minutes to turn off after arriving), I'll probably give them a miss (shame)!!
UPDATE :- By 1330 it was 100% cloud & looked like it was going to rain, so I didn't bother (another day of must go more hitting the buffers) especially as 5Z73 was over 2 hours late & they often run such trains via W.G.City (actually passed Hertford North 1434 - 135 minutes late after a 21 late start!
FURTHER UPDATE:- Found out that 66023 in it Coronation livery was the Plasmor train to Bow & could have got in the sun at this morning had I known about it, but I'm not paying £40 a year!!!!
I'm 64 this year & still learning new things, so it's not to late for Network Rail to learn the "art of timing & validated freight trains", because after using a different path last weekend (29/06/24), the diverted 6M88 reverted to a path on Saturday (06/07/24) that ddin't work two weeks earlier! It is impossible to fit a 2,000 tonnes freight being the Hertford (2041) leaving Tottenham Hale at 1614 & the Stansted Express (1B81) arriving at 1617, especially as the loaded sand train will have had "adverse signals" (all they need to do is loop it at Broxbourne & follow 1B81)!!!
