I'm afraid it's a glut of Goldie shots today!

Thank you all who view, comment or fave, it is greatly appreciated.

Ich mach mal ein kleines Feuerchen !

Powering up away from a meet and lunch break at Little Lake in fall 1981. 6730, 6715 and 6707 start 105 loads toward Escanaba. There were still a few segments of battered jointed rail in place on the ore line at this time and the crew is contending with one stretch of that right now. November 7, 1981. Another rescan, sorry about the glut of rescans but I been hard at getting a bunch done so I can file them back away.

ENG: The cold season is at the door and there is only a lot of heat with a fire bowl. And this is best done with good friends and dear people. You could also say to guest in the beautiful Mecklenburg Vorpommern.

Sorry folks, but I have so many shots of the Grebes, I just have to share! Hope you all don't mind seeing a glut of grebes!

If I were forced by some imaginary omnipotence to pick just one location in which to spend the rest of my days pointing my camera towards the sea, I don't think I'd look beyond Porth Nanven. It's never been lost on me that growing up in Cornwall has spoiled me with a glut of local hotspots, several of which I happily return to time and time again. Some photographers choose not to return to places after a visit or two, while others are content to retread their steps over and over, learning a location under all of its aspects. There's room for all of us of course. Yesterday unexpectedly, there was room for Katie, a friend I haven't seen for a while who is a wild swimmer and takes some spectacular underwater photographs. She's as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside and greeted me with the worst display of social distancing since it was invented by bounding towards me and wrapping me an enormous hug. I've missed hugs. It was a delight to see her. She's one of those people who make the world feel like a good place to be in. She'd been swimming of course, and was making ready to leave. time was moving on and she's an early riser who confesses to being no use whatsoever after 9pm. Sunset was due after 9:30.

In one of the more distant counties of our nation, this corner of delights is particularly remote even for those of us who live here, and the approach to it from the lonely windswept outpost of St Just is a descent into what feels like a primordial other world. It starts with a twisting drive on a narrow road flanked by high Cornish hedgerows adorned with foxgloves and campion, before a sharp descent takes you past the last few houses, one garden boasting enormous Canarian echiums covered in tiny spikes bearing thousands of purple blooms. A little further down on the final bend, a massive gunnera, leaves at least a metre wide spreads towards the road. The final drag down to the small car park is festooned with ferns and bracken. Finally you arrive on a beach consisting almost entirely of huge egg shaped chunks of granite, worn smooth by year upon year of Atlantic attrition. Hence the nickname, "Dinosaur Egg Beach." And then you look out to the ocean to witness the view, in this case with an ominous bank of threatening cloud that had the audacity to interrupt my sandwich and found me racing to set up the camera more quickly than I usually would. I'm pleased to report that I stayed dry, and it seemed from the wet roads that the cloud had instead dumped its contents 30 miles to the east over Redruth as I arrived at home later on after one of the most enjoyable evenings with the camera for quite some time.

Sorry if there's been a glut of this kind of shot on my stream, but I have fads…. anyhow, autumn's over too quickly, you have to strike while the iron's hot :o)

Photoshop blur/unblur.

(People often ask how this is done, so here goes:

Open the file in Photoshop.

Add a duplicate layer.

Go to the blur tool, choose motion blur. Select about 650 px and 90 degrees.

Add a layer mask, the tool for this is on the layers palette, the one that is a rectangle with a circle in the middle.

Use the brush tool to unblur parts of the image. You can change the opacity and flow to varying amounts, say 100% at the bottom, then use 50% a bit higher up, and 10% in the trees…. Its up to you!

Then, because you’re working on a layer mask, if you do too much you can undo it again by changing from the black to white block (bottom left) and vice versa.

I finish the processing in Lightroom because that’s what I’m used to, tone curve, contrast etc.)

“So she thoroughly taught him that one cannot take pleasure without giving pleasure, and that every gesture, every caress, every touch, every glance, every last bit of the body has its secret, which brings happiness to the person who knows how to wake it. She taught him that after a celebration of love the lovers should not part without admiring each other, without being conquered or having conquered, so that neither is bleak or glutted or has the bad feeling of being used or misused.”

This was the first year in my memory since coming to this beautiful 17th century former farm cottage in Isham that we have had not only a glut of apples on both apple trees, but lots of delicious fruit on our peach tree. The weather during the growing season must have been just right.

the opportunity that comes with not keeping up with eating all the tomatoes, is that i get to freeze the taste of summer for the winter.

They had built up again so time for a slow roasting session!

Sometimes we freeze the roast tomatoes as an ingredient to use during the winter but these ones are destined for the second batch of pasta and olive sauce. I made a batch a bit over a week ago.

Recipe varies a bit in ratios but is pretty much the same:

Tomatoes slow roasted

Onions - about 6 big ones (home grown)

loads of Garlic - a whole bulb at least (home grown)

a load of peppers from the polytunnel

A couple of jars of olives and a jar of roast red peppers.

Lots of good olive oil.

Some Kale and parsley (also home grown)

Lots of ground black pepper - there is plenty of salt from the olives so no need to add

Tomatoes slow roasted & everything started on the hob and then cooked slowly in a low oven for about 5 hours. Then blitzed. I could eat it every day I think!

Loving the Short Eared Owls. There seems to be a bit of a glut or at least they are doing quite well. North Wirral Coast.

…… We’ve a glut of Tomatoes & Courgettes plus some Kidney beans that have gone too big & likely to be stringy, so I made some Minestrone rather than my usual ‘Green’ vegetable soups this week! Made enough to last the week whilst the Rayburn was on for Sunday dinner. So my #240 shot of the day is a boring ‘food’ shot today. Alan:-)

Kustom9 is live, and I'm already on the grind.

The only gacha item here is the "Nostalgia Junkie" Fidget Toy from Dots. Everything else is mainstore heat.

The fit is all about comfort and understated cool: the "Vergil" tank top from (aeone), the Interactive Sweatpants from blande., and the Opened Hoodie from [Hayabusa].

But let's talk about the real flex: the BOM. This is built on a full [RESHADE X SRANK] ANGUS base, then layered with an insane amount of S-RANK "KAIZO" and "KAREEM" pores, shading, and body definition. This is how you achieve hyperrealism.

I find the National Benzole Mixture sign fairly interesting. Benzole was a neat fuel used after WW1, when there was a glut of it, and a fuel additive (hence the name "Benzole Mixture") until the early 1960s. In the 1950s it was found to be a health hazard. Better engines meant that its' addition to petrol wasn't so necessary.

I put the matchstick in an incense stick holder, so it couldn't fall over. During the countdown of the self-timer of my camera (mirror lock-up) I kindled the matchstick with a lighter ... the timing was rather a problem as I wished to capture the embers ...

I am glad I didn't activate the smoke alarm ; )

... this is an usual matchstick with a (full) length of 5,4 cm (2,12 inches). The head of the match is about 0,7 cm (0,27 inches), so you see about 1,8 cm (0,71 inches) of the matchstick in this detail

Happy Macro Monday everybody !!

Although I photograph flowers on occasion, I don’t do so very often. I rarely set out purposefully to photograph them. I usually just run across them and go, “oh, those look nice,” and take some shots. Still, even when I do grab images of them, I very seldom process or edit any.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwIE6e2D4Q0&list=PL5alipHGWPQ... – Marian McPartland, “A Delicate Balance”

The reason for this is three-fold. Partly, it is because everyone photographs flowers – most in a boring way, but others really well (and can I do as well or better than them, and if not, why add to the glut?). In addition, flowers are gorgeous and pretty all on their own, and it is almost like artistically cheating (you don’t have to do much except get the light, exposure and focus right, right?).

And finally, I am never quite sure how to make flower shots creatively or stylistically my own (and I fear most, being trite). So, I just tend to not do much with them.

Still, every now and then I get an idea about what to do with a flower image. And, in being honest, that idea is often inspired by something I see from you extremely creative photog/artists on Flickr.

“Huh, that’s pretty cool, that’s nice,” I think, upon seeing something that catches my eye. “Oh my, what did they do HERE!?”

I may get a loosely considered “idea” of how to process an image, or a desire to figure out what this particular artist did on their image, using one of mine. I might remember a flower shot I have, or just rummage through some folders looking for something to catch my eye. If something looks “right” I’ll go with it.

Where the image goes – color use, texture choice and use, feeling, etc. – is an “at the moment,” organic kind of thing. The process isn’t exactly unconscious or chaotic, but I wouldn’t call it planned, either.

I like the British expression of simply, “having a go” [at something.]

Four times out of five, I either complete the image, but don’t like and never put it on my Flickr page, or I lose interest and abandon it. I seldom analyze why on either count. It either works or it doesn’t. Trust the gut.

The fifth time, such as with this Peony, I process/edit it and it lays around on my desk top for a while so I can, 1.), take some time to pick at it a bit (applying little touch-ups and tweaks here and there) and 2.), look at it enough to decide, “yeah, that’ll do,” and then (perhaps) put it up.

What I have to say about it – the narrative – almost always comes after the processing is all done. Some bits and pieces (thoughts) come as I process the image or after, and I sit down and write them out – usually in one or two sittings. There will be some tweaks to this too - words, phrases, punctuation – either before I put the image up or after. Seldom do the people who see the image and read the narrative soon after it goes up, get what it will look and read like in the days to come.

Sometimes I edit the image with music playing. If I do that usually goes up with the image too. Often, I edit images while semi-watching TV (although I’ve noticed the TV almost never influences the path the processing takes, as it can with music). On rare occasions I don’t add music, but my images feel incomplete or bare without it. I don’t know why I feel that, but I honor it.

Still, I know many never listen to the music (or read the words). Some will and like it (or feel it fits), while others won’t or don’t. Although I hope you like the music, it is really there for me. Every now and then – after months or years pass – I listen to the music, decide I don’t like it, don’t think it fits (or the link has gone dead) and change it. I really doubt anyone notices. As I said, it’s for me.

Some great visual artist - I forget who – is quoted as saying, “a work is never finished until it goes out the door.” As long as the artist can run across it or get to it…

With Flickr, it would seem, my images and writings never quite make it out the door.
