“It is a beautiful and delightful sight to behold the body of the Moon.”
– Galileo Galilei
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, a colossal sculpture of the moon has been erected in the Queens’ Lantern.
This touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram measures seven metres in diameter and features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. Each centimetre of the internally-lit spherical sculpture represents 5 km of the moon’s surface (at an approximate scale of 1:500 000).
Come and experience a super moon right in the museum!
