Shutterstock Captures the Essence of the CreativeMornings Community

Reality is not passive; we actively shape it with our thoughts and actions. Our personal universe is based on the stories we tell ourselves and the worldview through which we look out into the world.

In May 2016, CreativeMornings and Shutterstock (one of our global partners that makes our work possible), celebrated the theme of Reality.

Shutterstock surprised the community in 10 cities—London, San Francisco, Montreal, New York City, Vancouver, Singapore, Toronto, Berlin, and Chicago—by hiring local photographers to capture the diversity and backgrounds of their own CreativeMornings community.

Not only do we get to observe and study the work that was produced, but to also enter into the minds' behind the camera—how does their worldview shape their work and what do they hope to communicate? How do they use their lens to capture reality, and at the same time, inspire us to look into a new direction to change our reality?

Last night, I went into the City of Sydney to view firsthand the spectacular VIVID SYDNEY, #vividsydney a festival of light, music and ideas. Vivid Sydney runs from 24 May – 10 June 2013.

This image is one of my long exposure photographs of the bright and colorful projections of light on the Sydney Opera House. These colorful projections were continuously changing making Sydney Harbour look like a piece of art.

Colouring the city with creativity and inspiration, Vivid Sydney highlights include the hugely popular immersive light installations and projections; Vivid Aquatique immersive water theatre; performances from local and international musicians at Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House and the Vivid Ideas Exchange featuring public talks and debates from leading global creative thinkers.

The Sydney Opera House was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 28 June 2007. It is one of the 20th century's most distinctive buildings and one of the most famous performing arts centers in the world.

The Sydney Opera House is on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It sits at the north-eastern tip of the Sydney central business district (the CBD), surrounded on three sides by the harbour (Sydney Cove and Farm Cove) and inland by the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Cycloide

by Alan Rose

Cycloide investigates the boundary between order and chaos.

Drawing heavily from minimalism and op art of the 60s, the geometric forms and repetition of the piece create subconscious order which is comfortable for the viewer, yet the moving colour and light is Rose’s way of disturbing the order with chaos.

UP, and away! is the brainchild of a Singapore-based team of lighting designers, architects and engineers.

Consisting of five sets of psychedelic wings on recycled bicycles, the installation is inspired by a familiar childhood fantasy that many of us may identify with – one of flying free!

The wings are designed to light up according to the activities of the rider. For example, the faster one pedals the brighter the wings become. This is made possible through an intelligent circuit board that calculates the speed of each rotation with a magnetic switch which correspondingly controls the brightness of the LED lights.

We are excited to share the full album of portraits of our global creative community.

The moon is definitely a really interesting and powerful part of our world. It brings in tides and controls so many aspects of our earth which makes it essential for life and prosperity...sadly it is looked over many times, especially compared to the sun (damn sun)

This photo is meant to act as metaphor for exactly that. I'll let you decide how it all fits but in my head it did, and well everyone is different. A reflection can have many connotations, and likewise, this photo may also have many different representations and I'll leave that up to you to decide. :)

Definitely one of my more "out there" photos, but hey it's for the start of my new global creative project , "Behind the Lens"- www.flickr.com/groups/1474768@N25/ , and I need to go crazy! Our first theme was Reflections and I am SO excited to see what everyone came up with. Also, if you haven't already, I've love for more people to join the cause, it's a lot of fun i swear!

Please check the other photos from the other members as well in the group and give them some love. They are all phenomenally talented and should have their first photos up by today! :) Thank you all!

btw, just so you know, my original idea failed cause of my lack of tripod, but it was a lot more simple and 'pretty' than this. So hey, what are you gonna do? If someone wants to try my original idea and have the capabilities, you should! It was basically a mirror straight on the ground with star trails in it. So yeah, if you guys can do that, it'd be awesome. :D

Cycloide

by Alan Rose

Cycloide investigates the boundary between order and chaos.

Drawing heavily from minimalism and op art of the 60s, the geometric forms and repetition of the piece create subconscious order which is comfortable for the viewer, yet the moving colour and light is Rose’s way of disturbing the order with chaos.
