Images given left to right

Top: Variety (1), Emphasis (2), Contrast (3)

Middle: Harmony (4), Unity (5), Movement (6)

Bottom: Balance (7), Proportion (8), Repetition (9)

1) The different shapes of the illustration on the shirt create variety.

2) There is an emphasis on Lila (the girl on the log) since she is the only human in the picture moving across one of the only diagonal lines in the picture.

3) The dark silhouette of the tree creates contrast against the bright orange sky.

4) There is variety in this picture since they are moving from dark to light, but there is also unity with brother and sister running side by side.

5) Each one of the three runners sitting on the fence, looking off into the forest creates a sense of unity between them.

6) The string of beads creates lines for your eyes to follow from the dead leaves stuck in the beads at the bottom to the flowers at the top of the tree.

7) There is a symmetric balance created by the two grates on either side of the larger grate.

8) The receding lines created by the brown poles create a sense of greater importance towards the front of the image.

9) The vertical, narrow lines of the trees repeat across its cluster.

I was given a sweet tour of the LASD grounds in Whittier, CA by The Tez!

A smaller room towards the back of the trailer holds more comm equipment. There are maps on the wall indicating what area the MCU is currently working, which is important since the areas between LASD and LAPD jurisdictions can get confusing.

Given that restaurant De Heeren van Liedekercke in Denderleeuw, Belgium, is an official Orval Ambassadeur it shouldn't come as a surprise that they've got some cool Orval stuff on display - such as this magnum bottle.

High on it's nest above the Banksia woodland of Perth's Swan Coastal Plain, this 11 week-old eaglet fledged a few days after this photograph was taken. Here, it raises its wings in a defensive posture as I stuck my hand above my head, pointed the camera in roughly the right direction and clicked the shutter. This nest was so high that I had to hang underneath it to take photos! You can just make out the remains of Western Grey Kangaroo hide in the foreground.

Given all that has transpired the last few weeks, I took a few hours for myself to ride the quarry trails. I didn't push it hard, but it is a challenge no matter how you do it. It was good to be back out there, even if it did tax these old muscles.

MAHAVATAR BABAJI CAVE

Mahāvatār Bābājī (literally; Great Avatar Dear Father) is the name given to an Indian saint and yogi by Lahiri Mahasaya and several of his disciples,[2] who reported meeting him between 1861 and 1935. Some of these meetings were described by Paramahansa Yogananda in his book Autobiography of a Yogi, including a first-hand report of Yogananda's own meeting with the yogi.[3]Another first hand account was given by Yukteswar Giri in his book The Holy Science.[4] According to Sri M's autobiography (Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master) Babaji, was Shiva. In the second last chapter of his book, he mentions Babaji changing his form to that of Shiva. All of these accounts, along with additional reported meetings, are described in various biographies.[5][6][7]According to Yogananda's autobiography, Babaji has resided for at least hundreds of years in the remote Himalayan regions of India, seen in person by only a small number of disciples and others.[3][8] The death less Master is more than 2000 years old. He belongs to a very powerful lineage of Siddha Boganthar and Rishi Agastya as his Gurus. He acquired this deathless, non perishable body through tough yogik kriyas.

Again, according to his autobiography, shortly before Yogananda left for America in 1920, Babaji came to his home in Calcutta, where the young monk sat deeply praying for divine assurance regarding the mission he was about to undertake. Babaji said to him: "Follow the behest of your guru and go to America. Fear not; you shall be protected. You are the one I have chosen to spread the message of Kriya Yoga in the West

There are very few accounts of Babaji's childhood. One source of information is the book Babaji and the 18 Siddha Kriya Yoga tradition by Marshal Govindan.[9]According to Govindan, Babaji was named Nagarajan (king of serpents) by his parents. [8] V.T. Neelakantan and S.A.A. Ramaiah founded on 17 October 1952, (they claim – at the request of Babaji) a new organization, "Kriya Babaji Sangah," dedicated to the teaching of Babaji's Kriya Yoga. They claim that in 1953 Mahavatar Babaji told them that he was born on 30 November 203 CE in a small coastal village now known as Parangipettai, Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, India.[10] Babaji's Kriya Yoga Order of Acharyas Trust (Kriya Babaji Sangah) and their branch organizations claim his place and date of birth.[10] He was a disciple of Bogar and his birth name is Nagarajan.[9][10]

In Paramahansa Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi, many references are made to Mahavatar Babaji, including from Lahirī and Sri Yukteshwar.[3] In his book The Second Coming of Christ, Yogananda states that Jesus Christ went to India and conferred with Mahavatar Babaji.[8] This would make Babaji at least 2000 years old.[11] According to Govindan's book, Babaji Nagaraj's father was the priest of the village's temple. Babaji revealed only those details which he believed to be formative as well as potentially instructive to his disciples. Govindan mentioned one incident like this: "One time Nagaraj's mother had got one rare jackfruit for a family feast and put it aside. Babaji was only 4 years old at that time. He found the jackfruit when his mother was not around and ate it all. When his mother came to know about it, she flew in blind rage and stuffed a cloth inside Babaji's mouth, nearly suffocating him, but he survived. Later on he thanked God for showing him that she was to be loved without attachment or illusion. His Love for his mother became unconditional and detached."[9]

When Nagaraj was about 5 years old, someone kidnapped him and sold him as a slave in Calcutta (now Kolkata). His new owner however was a kind man and he freed Nagaraj shortly thereafter. Nagaraj then joined a small group of wandering sannyāsin due to their radiant faces and love for God. During the next few years, he wandered from place to place, studying holy scriptures like the Vedas, Upanishad, Mahabharata, Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita.

According to Marshall Govindan's book, at the age of eleven, he made a difficult journey on foot and by boat with a group of ascetics to Kataragama, Sri Lanka. Nagaraj met Siddha Bhogarnathar and became his disciple. Nagaraj performed intensive yogic sadhana for a long time with him. Bhogarnathar inspired Nagaraj to seek his initiation into Kriya Kundalini Pranayam from Siddha Agastya. Babaji became a disciple of Siddha Agastya. Nagaraj was initiated into the secrets of Kriya Kundalini Pranayama or "Vasi Yogam". Babaji made a long pilgrimage to Badrinath and spent eighteen months practising yogic kriyataught to him by Siddha Agastya and Bhogarnathar. Babaji attained self-realization shortly thereafter.[9]

It is claimed that these revelations were made by Babaji himself to S.A.A. Ramaiah, a young graduate student in geology at the University of Madras and V.T. Neelakantan, a famous journalist, and close student of Annie Besant, President of the Theosophical Society and mentor of Krishnamurti. Babaji was said to have appeared to each of them independently and then brought them together to work for his Mission in 1942

The Hike

anticipation, the true starting point

prepare, pack, unpack, repack

readiness and a willingness

hike into the unknown, a journey

being resolute and determined

elements of surprise, a reminder

surrender to the call, be mindful

snow, a blanket crisp some days

step, step, step always forward

air so fresh that the lungs rejoice

beauty and pain intermingle

companionship a natural given

each with the thought of the other

caring and giving, moving on

makeshift home a protection

tear down, set up, begin again

soft voices talk into the evening

must go on, go on, ever on

a rest to capture this heaven

legs burning but not giving up

soreness rages in every joint

shimmering peaks glisten

natures easy, gentle reminder

that you are a part of her trueness

vast be the calling, move along

soon an ending will be upon them

celebration without celebrating

completeness and a last look

joy is held inside, knowing

that we did this together

as one, always as one

I am very proud of them :)

The North Carolina National Guard hosts an award ceremony honoring Soldiers national service in times of crisis and war that for some began more than 100 years ago. Families of World War One veterans and one of the Spanish-American War received state and federal medals earned but not given to the veteran during their time in uniform thanks to the efforts of the Veterans Legacy Foundation at a ceremony at NCNG headquarters, March 26, 2017. The foundation is a charity dedicated to celebrating the legacy of veterans and researched on behalf of the families so there is an accurate account of the veterans’ service. The finger print; God given signature

The CPMR’s Intermediterranean Commission (IMC) has given its full backing to key plans for a territorial alliance aimed at developing a long-term strategy to build a sustainable future for all citizens in the Mediterranean.

The ‘Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance Joint Declaration’ was signed by political representatives from 5 Mediterranean organisations - including the IMC, the Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée (EPM), MedCities, Latin Arc, and the Adriatic-Ionian Euroregion - at a major international seminar on ‘The Future of the Mediterranean Region after 2020’, held in Barcelona on 4 February being co-organized by the Catalan Government, the EPM and the IMC and attended by more than 200 participants.

This event and signature were performed in the broader framework of the “Mediterranean Catalonia Forum,” that focused on reinforcing the importance of the Mediterranean worldwide and the crucial role of regional cooperation in the EU and Euro-Mediterranean agenda and policies.

It was held back-to-back with the renewal of the Presidency of the Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée, from the Government of Catalonia to the Balearic Islands, and the organisation of the CPMR Intermediterranean Commission Political Bureau.

The signature of the “Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance” was attended in particular by politicians of all the involved networks and will remain open for other key actors to endorse it in the future.

Its priorities, among others, are as follows:

• The demands that governing institutions – considering the post-2020 horizon and the two next programming periods – work harder towards the implementation and integration of emerging sea basin, macro-regional strategies and other connected initiatives and cooperation instruments, so as to build a common, more cohesive sustainable and co-owned Mediterranean macro-region involving all the territorial actors;

• Structuring a strong and operational multi-level and multi-stakeholder network, in order to work – together with EU and Euro-Mediterranean Institutions - in a more integrated way in the long run, to design and develop common projects and to support policies based on capitalization of results (e.g. from the Interreg MED Thematic Communities);

• Offering firm support to cooperation at political and technical levels between regional and local stakeholders in the EU, the IPA countries and non-European Mediterranean partner countries, as well as among all the components of the four helix: public and private sector, academia and non-governmental organizations/civil society.

Given the brief of having to shoot a piece of fruit, targeted toward a youth demographic, to encourage them to eat more fruit - what better way than telling them they can't have it !

central park in retrospect. nowhere is the central park idea more relevant than here, yet it seems no one has ventured the right questions through the confusion of national emotion: when given the chance to start over is there nothing that has been gleamed from our past? must the status quo be returned? besides the destruction and shock and political folly there is a much more profound elephant sitting in the room--potential for howard-roark-like social and developmental precedent. we shouldn't ruminate over the details of how the situation arose, but seize the fact that it has. what results musn't be a central park, neccesarily (it could be a preserve, a wind farm, sustainable housing, a center for the arts, the bayou it was destined to be before the levy, whatever), but something that can stand confidently alongside classical ideas without repeating the cardboard mistakes of the past. there are no people here, just ruins and land--a simplified opportunity given to us without our asking. let us take it and not allow difficult social circumstance to snuff this possibility, for if it were to realize this idea, and then succeed in creating something worthwhile, could it be possible that we would have the strength to do the same but without such a natural prompt in the future? imagine detroit, imagine the fragmented ecosystems of the west guided by this principle. we have become so comfortable dividing as time moves forward but when will we realize that we must undivide and refurbish that which has experienced the hands of humanity once already for the sake of higher ideas? when will we realize that sometimes environment must come before the individual for the sake of the collective individual and the completed individual... not just for highways and stadiums and government buildings, but also for art and spirituality and energy and the furthest opposite of high civilization, nature left to its own devices.
