The Student Life Awards Program (SLAP) is held at a formal reception each spring.
Seniors are given the following awards:
Who's Who awards are given to graduating seniors with above average academic standing (GPA of 2.5 or above); evidence of broad participation and leadership on campus; citizenship and service to the college and the community; potential for future achievement; generally well known on campus; and a positive peer role model.
The Hall of Fame award is the highest annual honor bestowed upon an individual student by the Division of Student Life and the Student Body Association. Four seniors will be selected for this honor. The Hall of Fame recognizes an individual’s overall excellence in: scholarship; leadership; participation in activities, organizations, and campus life; service to the Millsaps student body, College community and/or local community; and other notable achievements. The Hall of Fame at Millsaps College presentation is a component of the Senior Year Experience.

I was given three rolls of 35mm Kodak Technical Pan (expired 2002). I hunted around for a development scheme and finally settled on this. Mostly because I had Rodinal. I'm only posting in case some of you still have some in the fridge.

Rodinal 1+150 for thirteen minutes
Agitate with 30 seconds initial inversions, then 3 inversions at 10 minutes,7 minutes,4 minutes, and 1minute counting down. (every 3 minutes)
Regular stop, fix and hypo.
I used 5ml of Rodinal in 750ml of H2O. That gives less than the recommended 10ml of Rodinal but the negatives really look great (full tone scale).
I had to figure out a curve profile as I felt (and still do) that the midtones were not right. Technical Pan is also a dust magnet; lots of healing tool. Even with Rodinal there is virtually no grain.
With this last roll I used a Yellow filter which made life easy to post process.
A Brief History of the Castle
After the Norman Conquest, in 1069, the land around Middleham was given to Alan Rufus or ?Alan The Red?, a nephew of William the Conqueror. Rufus built a wooden motte-and-bailey castle, 500 yards to the south-west of where the present castle stands, on a site known as William's Hill. It was built to guard Coverdale and to protect the road from Richmond to Skipton. Alan Rufus was also the builder of nearby Richmond Castle. By the time of the Domesday Book in 1086 Middleham had been granted to Alan Rufus?s brother Ribald. This early castle was abandoned in the 12th century when a new castle was built centered around a massive stone keep . The construction of the present castle began around 1170 by Robert Fitzrandolph (grandson of Ribald) during the reign of Henry II when he built the keep and original bailey. The keep, one of the largest in England, had twelve foot thick walls and three floors; for its time, this would have provided palatial accommodation. It contained a great chamber, large kitchen, chapel, dovecot, cellars and the living rooms of the lord of Middleham.
At each end of the keep's vaulted basement there were two wells (which can still be seen today). The thirteenth century curtain walls formed an enclosure around 250 feet on each side. In the fourteenth and fifteenth century the garrison quarters, stables and stores were housed within these walls.
Original entry was via a gatehouse on the East side of the castle across a wooden bridge (possibly having a drawbridge over a now dry moat). The huge wooden gates and probable portcullis must have presented an awesome first impression! The present day entrance to the castle is through the Northern gatehouse, known as the ?Neville Gate?.
Middleham Castle became home to some of the most powerful lords of the 15th century, including Salisbury, Warwick and Richard, Duke of Gloucester, later King Richard III, he was particularly fond of Middleham. The round tower at the south-west corner of the curtain wall, traditionally known as the Prince's Tower, is said to be where Richard's son Prince Edward was born and died.
After Richard was killed at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 Henry VII became king, and Middleham Castle became his. Under the Tudors the castle was left to fall into disrepair.
In 1604 James I granted the castle to Sir Henry Linley, who made some repairs and lived there until his death in 1610 when his daughter Jane Linley then inherited the castle. In 1613 Jane married Edward, 2nd Viscount Loftus, who occupied it until 1644. During the Civil War it was to be used as a prison.
In 1646 Parliament ordered the east range wall be destroyed along with most of the wall-walks, thus leaving the castle the shell it is today.
In 1662 it was sold to Edward Wood, his family owning the castle until 1889. It was then sold to Samuel Cunliffe-Lister, 1st Lord Masham, and was inherited by the second Lord Masham in 1906. In 1925 the Office of Works, later to become English Heritage, acquired the castle and it is now in their keeping and open to the public.

Springfield, Illinois
The Illinois Firefighter Memorial is dedicated to the firefighters of Illinois, who have given their lives in the line of duty and to those firefighters who heroically serve with courage, pride and honor.
The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, working with the Secretary of State's office and a nationally recognized sculptor, developed a memorial in which the fire service of Illinois will be proud. The artist designed and constructed an original bronze work of art consisting of four life-size figures of firefighters in full gear, a child, a ladder, and hose. Each adult figure is approximately 6ft 2in tall if in a standing position and represents the firefighters in full protective clothing, in action. The art was created through the "lost wax" method of bronze casting and is finished in an antique bronze fire-on patina suitable for exterior exhibition, signed and dated by the artist. The figures are situated on a cairn 14 feet high consisting of Renaissance stone. There are 2,400 red paver bricks which are enclosed by a 2 foot wall with capstones engraved with contributor's names.
It is here each year, at the Illinois Firefighter Memorial, that we honor those who have made the supreme sacrifice. The Annual Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Firefighter Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony is held each year in early May.
This is a photograph from the St. Coca's AC 5KM Road Race 2015 which was held in Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Ireland at 20:00 on Friday 26th June 2015. This superb road race is now firmly established again as one of the fastest and best organised road races of it's kind in Leinster. The race follows a left handed course around a well known local walking route around Laragh and in the closing kilometer runs parallel to the Royal Canal into the finish at the railway station. The members of St. Coca's AC and the many volunteers from the local community must be given great praise for organising another fantastic night of racing for runners, joggers, and walkers. The 5KM course is very flat with the exception of short incline up a motorway overpass and makes its way along narrow country lanes sheltered on either side by hedgerows. The beautiful summer's evening made for an enjoyable night for everyone with a large crowd gathering at the finish to cheer on participants. The race also attracted one of it's largest number of participants in recent years with over 380 finishers in the race. Refreshments and prize awards were held in the primary school near the race start and close to the St. Coca's running track.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Given the increase in demand for healthy diets and OFSP, the CGIAR Research Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananas (RTB) provided the International Potato Center (CIP) with a scaling grant to accelerate the use of OFSP puree in baked and fried products in Kenya, Malawi and Uganda. The project launch for Kenya was held on 31st May, 2019 at ILRI Campus in Nairobi.

Who are Graduate lawyers ?
Graduate lawyers are being given starting salaries as a high as £ 150,000 as pay inflation hits its highest level in 20 years, according to a recruiter.
Alan Bannatyne, chief financial officer at recruitment consultancy Robert Walters, said some firms are increasing their salaries by up to 50 per cent amid a 'fierce competition for talent'.
Newly certified lawyers at the most renowned companies are even earning a maximum of £ 147,000 before bonuses, reports the BBC.
City banks are also among those raising graduate's salaries, while supermarkets such as Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi have boosted wages to at least £ 10 an hour.
The rise in salaries follows openings for law associates in London increasing around 131 per cent year-on-year between January and November 2021, according to figures from analytics firm Vacancysoft and recruiter BCL Legal.
Overall, job adverts hit a record high in the run-up to Christmas, with 210,000 vacancies posted in the UK between November 22 and 28, taking the total to 3.51million active postings.
The pandemic has prompted what economists have dubbed ‘the great resignation’ after scores of workers reassessed their employment during lockdown, leaving their jobs to change careers, or seeking a higher wage elsewhere.
The CPMR’s Intermediterranean Commission (IMC) has given its full backing to key plans for a territorial alliance aimed at developing a long-term strategy to build a sustainable future for all citizens in the Mediterranean.
The ‘Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance Joint Declaration’ was signed by political representatives from 5 Mediterranean organisations - including the IMC, the Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée (EPM), MedCities, Latin Arc, and the Adriatic-Ionian Euroregion - at a major international seminar on ‘The Future of the Mediterranean Region after 2020’, held in Barcelona on 4 February being co-organized by the Catalan Government, the EPM and the IMC and attended by more than 200 participants.
This event and signature were performed in the broader framework of the “Mediterranean Catalonia Forum,” that focused on reinforcing the importance of the Mediterranean worldwide and the crucial role of regional cooperation in the EU and Euro-Mediterranean agenda and policies.
It was held back-to-back with the renewal of the Presidency of the Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée, from the Government of Catalonia to the Balearic Islands, and the organisation of the CPMR Intermediterranean Commission Political Bureau.
The signature of the “Mediterranean Cooperation Alliance” was attended in particular by politicians of all the involved networks and will remain open for other key actors to endorse it in the future.
Its priorities, among others, are as follows:
• The demands that governing institutions – considering the post-2020 horizon and the two next programming periods – work harder towards the implementation and integration of emerging sea basin, macro-regional strategies and other connected initiatives and cooperation instruments, so as to build a common, more cohesive sustainable and co-owned Mediterranean macro-region involving all the territorial actors;
• Structuring a strong and operational multi-level and multi-stakeholder network, in order to work – together with EU and Euro-Mediterranean Institutions - in a more integrated way in the long run, to design and develop common projects and to support policies based on capitalization of results (e.g. from the Interreg MED Thematic Communities);
• Offering firm support to cooperation at political and technical levels between regional and local stakeholders in the EU, the IPA countries and non-European Mediterranean partner countries, as well as among all the components of the four helix: public and private sector, academia and non-governmental organizations/civil society.
This does not happen every day.
I was given some old films.
There were two rolls of Ferrania F616 b&w.
One had been opened and had “exposed” written on the box.
The film had indeed been wound through.
According to the box the film expired in 1954 and I know that it must have been exposed at least twelve years ago and then for the last twelve years it has been in a loft! If I develop it will there be anything on it?
It just so happens that I have a Uniplex developing tank, which can take roll films up to116 size.
I could not find any clues about developing times for Ferrania so I decided that Rodinal 1+100 stand developed for one hour was probably my best bet.
I developed the film on 23 June 2013, 59 years after it expired.
Looks like we don’t need to worry too much about expiry dates, latent image regression or matching films and developers. I reckon the results are not bad given the films history.
I have no idea where or when the film was exposed but all the eight 2 ½ x 4 ¼ negatives are of a house interior.
Overall background fog is minimal with some visible toward the edges.

Out at the airport yesterday I came across this good looking abandoned boot! What I dont understand is how you can leave home with two and return with one, surely you would notice that there was a problem when you tried walking?

Photograph taken at an altitude of Twenty six metres at 12:48pm on Friday 23rd February 2024 off St Paul's Churchyard and Queens Head Passage in Paternoster Square, the City of Westminster, London.
Once called Paternoster Row, this area was once the centre of the London publishing trade and destroyed by aerial bombardment during the Second World War Blitz. It is now the location for the London Stock Exchange and now features the re-erected 1669 Temple Bar Gate by Christopher Wren which was restored and placed here in 2004 at a cost of three million pounds. The Paternoster Square Column is a Corinthian column of Portland stone with gold leaf covered flaming copper urn that is illuminated by fibre optic lights at night.
It was designed by William Whitfield of Whitfield Partners and is also a ventilation shaft for a service road beneath the square. It stands 75 feet tall.

Sometimes when you wait long enough...good things happen!
I had pretty much given-up on seeing a moose, when leaving the Grand Tetons and crossing the bridge at Moose Junction...there he was. I was ecstatic with excitement! It was drizzeling rain at the time, but as we jumped out to get a closer look, the rain stopped and we had our photo opportunity.
This was the last of the National Parks we went through on our almost 4 thousand mile adventure. We traveled through 9 states and visitied over 10 National and State parks.
Although this wasn't a 'birding trip' as we were traveling with friends to see the sights and sights we saw. I was, however, able to capture a few unsuspecting birds along the way that I will post as I mull through a couple thousand pics.
After finishing some building work I put my steel toe capped boots in this old barn portal to dry out. That was four years ago and after a recent spring clean I decided to take them out of their resting place and put them where they belong, however due to public pressure I have been forced to leave them where they are as even my neighbor said he would miss them if they weren't around anymore!

Protest at the administrative offices of Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Burlington, MA to demand a moratorium on deportations and ICE’s rejection of the applications for 287(g) agreements from the Sheriff Departments of Essex and Plymouth counties. If signed, organizers believe the agreement would increase the number of immigrant families being destroyed by deportation.
According to organizers between 2005 and 2010, 87% of cases involving undocumented immigrants with U.S. citizen children ended in deportation. Of all children in U.S. public schools, 6.9% are children of undocumented parents and 82% of those children are U.S. citizens. The Congressional mandate that sets a bed quota requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain 34,000 undocumented immigrants on any given night fuels the destruction of immigrant families. ICE is the only law enforcement agency that is subject to a national quota system for incarceration.

I don't care much about all that. It's just a beautiful building on the South Side of Chicago, and is now the Beverly Unitarian Church.
