Los árabes los denominaban Monfrag (El Abismo) por lo escarpado y peligroso que era su acceso debido a los desniveles que presenta el Parque Nacional de Monfragüe, siendo la Sierra de las Corchuelas el eje central por el que discurren las 18400 hectáreas de este parque nacional en la provincia de Cáceres en Extremadura. La sierra de las Corchuelas es atravesada en dos por las aguas del río Tajo en esta zona tan espectacular del parque, El Mirador Salto del Gitano, sin duda uno de los puntos de referencia para los amantes de la observación de aves.
The Arabs called them Monfrag (The Abyss) because of how steep and dangerous their access was due to the unevenness of the Monfragüe National Park, with the Sierra de las Corchuelas being the central axis through which the 18400 hectares of this national park run. in the province of Cáceres in Extremadura. The Sierra de las Corchuelas is crossed in two by the waters of the Tagus River in this spectacular area of the park, El Mirador Salto del Gitano, undoubtedly one of the reference points for birdwatchers.

DC 4801 and DFB 7237 off train 934 are pressed into Thunderbird service to bring a late 937 south after its usual DX struck a car at Winchester earlier in the day.
24 DCs remain in service out of 85 that were chop-nosed from a larger class of high-hood DA locos around 1980. 4801 was one of the last to be rebuilt in 1983 from a 1965-built EMD export G12 - is looking particularly tidy.

Both are similar locally built EMD 16-567-powered locos derived from the F9. These were built for the NSW State Railway and for the interstate 'Commonwealth Railways' respectively in the first half of the 1950s.
