A cool glass of honey ginger lemonade seems just right on one of those lovely, long, lazy days outside. It starts with simple syrup made from equal parts water and honey, heated briefly to dissolve. Into that goes the “zing”, a few ounces of grated ginger, and it’s left to infuse….

Ginger Cat.

Neighbours cat that seems to spend most of it's time in our garden!

Update.. Our neighbour had to move so we ended up adopting him, we named him Ron after the character Ron Weasley in the 'Harry Potter' films as he's ginger too :-)

Questa turista mi aveva fatto venire in mente il film Avatar, in versione Rossa... :)

Just learned Today is not Kick A Ginger Day

The crepe ginger is a tall-growing and lush-looking, tropical shrub. The most prominent feature of the crepe ginger is its white, trumpet-shaped flowers. The white flower-dark green foliage colour contrast ensures the flowers stand out against the dark foliage.

The crepe-like appearance of its blooms is what earned this ginger its common name. Although they look fragile, feel the petals between your fingers and you will realise they are rather waxy in texture. These are the true flowers of this ginger, which emerge from a cone-shaped cluster of bracts. The bracts, which are technically modified leaves, are maroon in colour and remains attractive for about a month or so even after the true flowers fade.

Ginger helping himself to a fresh drink. He has his own fresh water, but any excuse to drink from a tap, glass or puddle and he is straight in there.

The Dancing House (Czech: Tančící dům) is the nickname given to an office building in downtown Prague, Czech Republic. It was designed by Croatian-born Czech architect Vlado Milunić in co-operation with Canadian architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot (where the previous building had been destroyed during the Bombing of Prague in 1945). The construction started in 1994 and was finished in 1996.

The very non-traditional design was controversial at the time. Czech president Václav Havel, who lived for decades next to the site, had supported it, hoping that the building would become a center of cultural activity.

Originally named Fred and Ginger (after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers - the house vaguely resembles a pair of dancers) the house stands out among the Neo-Baroque, Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings that Prague is famous for.

On the roof is a French restaurant with magnificent views of the city. The building's other tenants include several multinational firms. (The plans for a cultural center were not realized.) Because it is situated next to a very busy road it depends on forced air circulation, making the interior somewhat less pleasant for its occupants.

Shell Ginger is native to East Asia and grows from about 8-10 feet (2.9-3m) It is used as an ornamental shrub, and the leaves are used in Cuisine and traditional medicine. (Hypertensive, diuretic, antioxidant, and anti-ulcerogenic properties are some of it's benefits.)

It is also known as Pink Porcelain Lily or Variegated Ginger.

The flowers were beautiful, and the white outer petals seemed to have the sheen of a pearl. All types of bees and other insects seem to be drawn to it.

This craft is internded as a “fake 1920’s raised deck cruiser". It can go 50 miles upwind with electric power and can use a small sail to go downwind. It can also tow a generator in a dinghy for reserve power. And she has fine flowers to look good this day. This was taken at Port Townsend’s Wooden Boat Festival.

Practical, safe motorboating began at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, where 55 electric launches ferried attendees. www.boatingmag.com/100-years-electric-boat-development

The Nov-Dec. issue of Wooden Boat describes the 1896 electric launch that is still running with her original motor. In 1901 they used Edison glass cased, lead-acid batteries which could last 35 years. Top speed was about 7 mph which was good for fishing and docking.
