I've posted shots of this mural before on film, but not digital.

I think this is a lovely Fellini film & very underrated. It deserves to be seen more.

With extra time before our flight home, we took a 2 hour Trolley Tour of Honolulu. Well worth it.

Google AI Overview

The flower in the image is likely a hot pink ginger, also known as red ginger or Alpinia purpurata.

It is a tropical plant native to the Malay Peninsula and the southwest Pacific islands.

The prominent, brightly colored part that looks like a flower is actually a collection of modified leaves called bracts.

The true flowers are small and white, found at the tips of these bracts.

This plant is popular as an ornamental addition to gardens and is often used for cut flower arrangements due to its long-lasting blooms.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpinia_purpurata

Alpinia purpurata, commonly referred to as red ginger, ostrich plume and pink cone ginger, is a ginger native to Maluku and the southwest Pacific islands. In typical ginger fashion, A. purpurata is a rhizomatous plant, spreading underground in a horizontal growth habit, sending feeder roots downwards into the substrate and sprouting leafy vertical stems from nodes located along the rhizome. As its common name implies, red ginger blooms with showy inflorescences on long, bright magenta- to red-hued bracts; while they appear to be a blossom, bracts are in fact modified leaves that contain the plant's actual flowers. Bracts are a common feature of many botanical genera (such as Euphorbia sp. or the Araceae family), having evolved to protect and resemble the flowers and appeal to pollinators. The actual flower "parts" (pollen, pistil, stamen, etc.) are located inside, often accessed by crawling insects like ants or beetles.

Alexander Hamilton is undoubtedly dreaming about the thing that is always uppermost in his mind - his next snack. He just turned one years old and already weighs 14 pounds. How can a group employees at a vet practice have an overweight resident cat? We're setting a bad example. Most overweight cats live in a household where family members can't resist feeding extra little snacks just because their cat gets so much pleasure from it. Well... Alex lives in a residence where approximately 50 employees can't resist giving him a treat. So there you have it.

In the wee hours of the morning, I can count on Jimmy to follow me around and keep me company (while all the other cats are sleeping). Lately, we've been allowing Jimmy (& Idaho) to spend time in Puddy's (& my) bedroom during the daytime--as long as they don't cause a ruckus. In these 3 shots, Jimmy knows it's time for me to remove him from the room and shut the door so that Puddy can relax.

Ginger _July 1991

Long gone , had a good life , just found this photo , never seen it up until now

I can't take credit for this excellent photo - it is the work of my wife - check out her post on the blog below!

Recipe here: at www.withsprinklesontop.org

These cookies are great for using up sub-optimal eating bananas. The consistency is a bit chewier than a muffin, not as crumbly as cakey cookies and they stay pretty moist overall. They are what I like to refer to as excellent ‘breakfast cookies’ for the following reasons:

1) the texture is perfect with coffee

2) they are not too sweet

3) the banana and oats give the impression of healthy eating

If you really like ginger, try doubling it because the flavor baked away to a pretty weak undertone in the end.

P.S. - I am especially proud of this post because this photo is actually mine (not my ghost photographer’s work) and, at the risk of appearing overly self-congratulatory, I think it looks pretty good if I do say so myself…

In a very quiet road, where traffic is so infrequent, that a lie down in the road is often possible.

Ginger has a lot of energy, but I was able to catch her in a quiet moment. She has quite the personality, like that of a 10-yr old child. Sometimes too much, and I have had the scratches to prove it.

Unfortunately, she is a hard one to pose, so sorry for the background ... ;o)

I had my mom make a bunny tail out of yarn for me. I used double sided sticky tape to keep it on. heehee

Symbols

The red ginger flower represents intense passion.

These flowers symbolise strength, prosperity as well as diversity.

The general flower meaning for ginger flowers is proud and majestic.

These flowers are sometimes used as substitute for roses.

History

Ginger, along with black pepper, were considered highly valuable trade commodities in 13th and 14nth century England.

One pound of ginger traded for the same amount as a sheep.

The country of India brought ginger to the Romans as far back as 2,000 years ago.

The Romans used the plant for its medicinal value.

The ginger family (Zingiberaceae) contains around 1,000 species of tropical perennial herbs.

Some gingers are cultivated for their edible rhizomes, which are used for as both a medicine and a culinary spice.

Other ginger plants, known as ornamental gingers, are grown primarily for their pleasing appearance.

Leafy cane-like stems arise from rhizomes to form a plant 3 to 15 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide.

Throughout the year, ginger plants produce stunning red blossoms that are often used in flower arrangements.

When growing gingers, remember, they love moist, well-drained soil and partial shade.

Ginger blooms come red, pink and white, have thick, very sturdy stems and are perfect to create height in a tropical arrangement.

They have a decidedly modern feel.

This guy thinks he's a dog. He plays fetch and wags his tail from side-to-side when we get back home from work. He also rolls over on his back and displays his belly whenever he seeks attention, which is pretty much all the time.
