Ginger is very happy with her new outfit and hat!! Thank you aunties Peggy and Kir!! :)

Ginger the kitten! She was found outside, and has since been spayed and gotten her shots. She will be taken to the shelter soon, but I'd really like to find a home for her instead! She's very sweet, playful, and cuddly :)

The red ginger flower represents intense passion.

These flowers symbolise strength, prosperity as well as diversity.

The general flower meaning for ginger flowers is proud and majestic.

These flowers are sometimes used as substitute for roses.

History

Ginger, along with black pepper, were considered highly valuable trade commodities in 13th and 14nth century England.

One pound of ginger traded for the same amount as a sheep.

The country of India brought ginger to the Romans as far back as 2,000 years ago.

The Romans used the plant for its medicinal value.

The ginger family (Zingiberaceae) contains around 1,000 species of tropical perennial herbs.

Some gingers are cultivated for their edible rhizomes, which are used for as both a medicine and a culinary spice.

Other ginger plants, known as ornamental gingers, are grown primarily for their pleasing appearance.

Leafy cane-like stems arise from rhizomes to form a plant 3 to 15 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide.

Throughout the year, ginger plants produce stunning red blossoms that are often used in flower arrangements. When growing gingers, remember, they love moist, well-drained soil and partial shade.

Ginger blooms come red, pink and white, have thick, very sturdy stems and are perfect to create height in a tropical arrangement.

They have a decidedly modern feel.

Ginger, an Eastern Screech Owl, was successfully released back in the wild today, not 5 miles from my house. She had been hit by a car, taken by a very good Samaritan to the rehabber, convalesced for a few weeks, then released back where she was found. She glared at us for a few minutes, then flew down the line of trees and took a sharp right turn right into a perfect hidey hole. Obviously one of HER hidey holes! Viv and I imagined a joyous reunion with her mate inside.

Nutmeg and Mango are our only orange/ginger cats. Meg is so pale and Mango is so rich in color! When the last of our other orange cats had passed away, Mango was very sad and we knew he missed his orange buddies. Nutmeg was not overly fond of him at first, even though she was born here and Mango has always been in her life, but it seems now, that there is more of a bond.

Happy Caturday!

Happy bokeh wednesday. :)

Ginger is a very kind and gentle cat. He's neutered, but doesn't have a microchip nor a tattoo or ear mark. I'm not sure if he (still) has a home. I saw him daily for a long time, but since Joshua visits me, Ginger keeps aloof. He only visits me if Joshua isn't here. They don't like each other.

Ginger is one of this season's youngsters. He is a pretty dark golden-orange brown color, so he stands out easily from the others. I started putting seeds in a planter that fits on my deck railing to keep the shells from littering my deck. And the drainage holes help when it rains..It works great!

Neighbourhood Ginger having invited himself in is falling asleep on Ellie's Tower.
