This is my cat, Ginger. She has been my cat sense I got her as a kitten in August of 2012. She has been a big part of me growing up and I hope to give you as much love as I can, because you give me all your love.
One of the cats which make up a colony of abbandoned stray cats called "Ragatti del lago" which are looked after by volunteers.
COSTUS WOODSONII
This magnificent type of Ginger is very easy to grow and flower most of the year. The clumps will grow to about 4 feet on average. Filtered light is ideal, although I have seen beautiful plants growing in full sun and even in total shade. Watering is average. A little moist during the warm weather and a little drier during the cold weather. Avoid if possible getting the foliage wet when watering. Fertilization is also average with more during the warm weather and very little during the winter. Temperatures has a lot to do with flowering. The plant can withstand a light frost for short periods of time but will stop blooming and won't look very good. If the plant can be kept above 50° all the time, most likely it will keep blooming continuously. The yellow flowers that emerge from the red cones are edible. The Red Button Costus is an excellent choice for landscapers in the south, and a very beautiful potted plant for gardeners everywhere.
FAMILY : Zingiberaceae
ORIGIN : Hispaniola
SIZE : 4 feet on average
LIGHT REQUIREMENTS : shade/ partial sun
WATER REQUIREMENTS : average
MIN. TEMP. : low 30's
FLOWER : most of the year
This year's Jarl had ginger. Some of his friends decided to pay tribute to it during the morning parade. Up Helly Aa, 2026, Lerwick, Shetland.

TWO GINGER-FLOWERS. Symbols
The red ginger flower represents intense passion.
These flowers symbolise strength, prosperity as well as diversity.
The general flower meaning for ginger flowers is proud and majestic.
History
Ginger, along with black pepper, were considered highly valuable trade commodities in 13th and 14nth century England.
One pound of ginger traded for the same amount as a sheep.
The country of India brought ginger to the Romans as far back as 2,000 years ago.
The Romans used the plant for its medicinal value.
The ginger family (Zingiberaceae) contains around 1,000 species of tropical perennial herbs.
Some gingers are cultivated for their edible rhizomes, which are used for as both a medicine and a culinary spice.
Other ginger plants, known as ornamental gingers, are grown primarily for their pleasing appearance.
Leafy cane-like stems arise from rhizomes to form a plant 3 to 15 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide.
Throughout the year, ginger plants produce stunning red blossoms that are often used in flower arrangements.
When growing gingers, remember, they love moist, well-drained soil and partial shade.
Ginger blooms come red, pink and white, have thick, very sturdy stems and are perfect to create height in a tropical arrangement.
They have a decidedly modern feel.
Wishing you well and stay safe!

Looks like a wax model, but it is a real ginger flower, seen in Cairns Botanic Gardens, Queensland, Australia.
Many thanks for your visits / comments / faves!
Bought at the UM farmer's market (Tuesday's, across from the main hospital entrance). I tasted a sample of this and it was delicious, so I bought a jar. The lady who sold it to me it keeps 18 months sealed, and almost indefinitely once opened in the refrigerator. but this won't last that long. :)
After I get paid, I'll be going back for one of the smokier/savory varieties.
They are Baltimore based, and their email address is infusedspreads@yahoo.com
Red-ginger
'Awapuhi 'ula'ula
Alpinia purpurata
Reg-ginger is native to some islands in the Pacific, but was introduced to Hawai'i as a garden plant. It grows very quickly and has spread from gardens into the wild. Though it is commonly called red-ginger, the waxy, cone-shaped flower structures maybe red or pink.

Red-ginger, Alpinia Purpurata, also called ostrich plume and pink cone ginger, are native Malaysian plants with showy flowers on long brightly colored red bracts. They look like the bloom, but the true flower is the small white flower on top.
It has cultivars called Jungle King and Jungle Queen. Red Ginger grows in Hawaii, Trinidad, Grenada, St. Lucia, Panama, Dominica, St. Vincent, Martinique, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Puerto Rico, Suriname (where its Dutch name is 'bokkepoot', billy-goat's foot), and many Central American nations, including Belize. It is also found in Samoa, where it is the national flower, and is locally called "tequila."

Please view LARGE or ORIGINAL for detail of the ants.. It's worth an extra second or two.... thanks!
