I had my mom make a bunny tail out of yarn for me. I used double sided sticky tape to keep it on. heehee

Ginger is a popular flavour at Christmas, usually pieces coated in dark chocolate but my take on it this year is stem ginger cupcakes. A quick and easy bake, and also an easy frosting flavoured with syrup from the ginger jar and topped with a festive edible 'bauble'.

Ginger has a lot of energy, but I was able to catch her in a quiet moment. She has quite the personality, like that of a 10-yr old child. Sometimes too much, and I have had the scratches to prove it.

Unfortunately, she is a hard one to pose, so sorry for the background ... ;o)

The flower of the Ginger plant has an appearance like none other, three different colours spindly and alluring.

Hiding in the shadows next to the car park is this lovely Ginger Flower. While I don't know exactly what type, Google Lens ids it as Khali Ginger also called Ginger Lily. I do think these flowers are pretty spectacular and I would imagine are more suited to a tropical climate.

Symbols

The red ginger flower represents intense passion.

These flowers symbolise strength, prosperity as well as diversity.

The general flower meaning for ginger flowers is proud and majestic.

These flowers are sometimes used as substitute for roses.

History

Ginger, along with black pepper, were considered highly valuable trade commodities in 13th and 14nth century England.

One pound of ginger traded for the same amount as a sheep.

The country of India brought ginger to the Romans as far back as 2,000 years ago.

The Romans used the plant for its medicinal value.

The ginger family (Zingiberaceae) contains around 1,000 species of tropical perennial herbs.

Some gingers are cultivated for their edible rhizomes, which are used for as both a medicine and a culinary spice.

Other ginger plants, known as ornamental gingers, are grown primarily for their pleasing appearance.

Leafy cane-like stems arise from rhizomes to form a plant 3 to 15 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide.

Throughout the year, ginger plants produce stunning red blossoms that are often used in flower arrangements.

When growing gingers, remember, they love moist, well-drained soil and partial shade.

Ginger blooms come red, pink and white, have thick, very sturdy stems and are perfect to create height in a tropical arrangement.

They have a decidedly modern feel.

I'd say swimsuit issue, but, uh, she's naked.

This guy thinks he's a dog. He plays fetch and wags his tail from side-to-side when we get back home from work. He also rolls over on his back and displays his belly whenever he seeks attention, which is pretty much all the time.

COSTUS WOODSONII

This magnificent type of Ginger is very easy to grow and flower most of the year. The clumps will grow to about 4 feet on average. Filtered light is ideal, although I have seen beautiful plants growing in full sun and even in total shade. Watering is average. A little moist during the warm weather and a little drier during the cold weather. Avoid if possible getting the foliage wet when watering. Fertilization is also average with more during the warm weather and very little during the winter. Temperatures has a lot to do with flowering. The plant can withstand a light frost for short periods of time but will stop blooming and won't look very good. If the plant can be kept above 50° all the time, most likely it will keep blooming continuously. The yellow flowers that emerge from the red cones are edible. The Red Button Costus is an excellent choice for landscapers in the south, and a very beautiful potted plant for gardeners everywhere.

FAMILY : Zingiberaceae

ORIGIN : Hispaniola

SIZE : 4 feet on average

The great Baba Sweet Tooth of Pakistan was considered one of the generous humanitarian figures the world has ever known. Every Eid he would come to every child's house in his complex mechanical driven rickshaw chariot led by fifteen fantastical and magical markhors leaving gifts of candies, toys for the children and gifts to the parents for a happier life. The legend is told that his special abilities to bend time and space by a gravity impelled technology was bestowed upon him as a gift from Zeta Reticuli aliens over a thousand years ago to help spread joy the world over and give great inspiration to all the young children of Pakistan and eventually to lands far beyond. Young and old highy revere him & say he still is around but resides out in the stars still returning to this day every Eid like clock work.

Today you can smell the sweetness of the Ginger Roti Mahal from dozens of miles away and sweetness has not ever turned stale in all this time since the first brick of ginger roti was carefully laid with love by the great Baba Sweet Tooth over a thousand years ago.

Dichorisandra thyrsiflora or Blue Ginger is a tropical plant which resembles ginger in growth and habit, but is actually related to the spiderworts (the genus Tradescantia). The plant is native to the tropical woodlands of North, Central and South America, specially in Atlantic Forest vegetation in Brazil. Of the family Commelinaceae, they are cultivated for their handsome spotted stems, large shiny foliage which is held horizontally, surmounted by striking blue flowers.

It was first described by the naturalist Johann Christian Mikan in 1823.

It was first grown in England in 1822, and is recorded from Sir William MacArthur's catalogue in 1857 of plants he grew in Camden southwest of Sydney. It has become naturalised in a small region of northeastern New South Wales in Australia. (Source: Wikipedia)

Stray.

Manila, Philippines

I adopted my oldest dog, Ginger, ten years ago when I first moved to the high desert. She was then five years old—she's now fifteen. In her later years, she has gradually grown blind, and has a bit of “old dog syndrome”—she is easily disoriented, and sometimes walks in tight circles. Nonetheless, she is a contented dog, especially at meal times, and, of all the dogs, is the one who gets along best with the cats. Here, the little kitten Thumbelina, tired after a session playing with the lace on my tennis shoe, finds Ginger to be a warm napping partner.
