I have decided to join Nina on her challenge to add a flower photo a day for 365 days.

After being disappointed that I hadn't seen many zebra in the first two weeks of the holiday, the last two weeks made up for it. This is a scene that greeted us as we drove along a dirt road in Kruger. At first I though the one laying down was dead as we drove so close and had to beep them before they moved LOL.

We are leaving this morning on a trip for about 10-12 days. We will be spending some time with my brother who spent 8 months last year in hospital due to falls resulting two broken legs and then heading up to Hervey Bay in Queensland to visit my son and his family who we haven't seen for around 14 months - it will be so good to see them.

I will keep in touch when I can.

Today is the first day of Winter here in Australia and there are still a few Autumn leaves clinging on despite the wind.

Something must have been very tasty on this tree as all the giraffes seemed to be enjoying their meal.

Taken during one of our drives through Pilanesberg Game Park. It is difficult to imagine how tall giraffes really are until you see them in the wild.

Honestly, I hadn't meant to disappear again, especially as I was starting to get back into the swing of Flick.

But, because my pain levels are now beyond what I can bear, I have been put on quite a high dose of daily morphine and it is playing merry hell with my narcolepsy!!!

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Hopefully my brain will learn to adjust and stop fighting with itself!

Last weekend we had the Tall Ships festival in Belfast before they started their Atlantic Races.

Alas, couldn't go so Mr.Killen proposed we have an adventure early Monday morning and see the Tall Ships anchored out at sea at various points along the North Coast before they set off for Portrush and the start of the race.

Set off at 4.15am, starting with Castlerock as we could see them anchored from our house and spent the next couple of hours zipping along the coast.

What made it even better was the glorious sunrise and gorgeous light and we finally ended up in Ballycastle where most of the biggest ships were anchored.

Ended up down my fave little road in Ballycastle which ends up near Fairhead and we parked listening to the baby birds being fed and watching the tide gently come in.

Just as we were leaving I happened to glance back at Fairhead and saw a tall ship in full sail coming round the head.

Immediately the opening theme from The Onedin Line (BBC Production that ran from 1971-80) started playing in my head and if you listen to www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTWK-eBjS3Q it does evoke tall ships sailing on far flung Oceans.

This was my favourite photo of all the ones that I took, the light was amazing, Fairhead looked so stark and bleak and in the background, the West Coast of Scotland is covered in a thick, dense layer of fog.

And so I saw my tall ship go sailing by.

EXPLORED NO.180

Some more views of Scotney Castle that I took during a visit with my dear friend Pat (www.flickr.com/photos/larigan/). We had a lovely day for our visit and I was so happy to get some lovely reflections.

We sat and watched these two Cheetahs stalking some Kudu cows for quite a while. One would stalk and the other would sit and then they would swap. It was getting late in the afternoon, so we couldn't stay to see if they actually caught the Kudu as we had to drive to Crocodile Bridge gate before closing time. They are really strict about people leaving the park on time.

I went out and about with the camera today for the first time in ages. It is a lovely Winter's day, although much warmer outside than it is inside, which helped with my decision. When I was in my neighbour's garden I spotted this lone bee buzzing around the Jade plant.

I don't think this would be my ideal way to fly.

And the West Coast of Scotland is as far away from crowds as one could possibly wish for and for someone like me who hates crowds, ESPECIALLY when people wander into my frame when I am taking photos, the Highlands are a perfect holiday spot.

Blink and one could miss the village of Ardmair.

But, on a sunny, sunny day, one cannot help be dazzled by this little bay under the shadow of a very large mountain.

I just loved how the beach curved with its lines of golden brown seaweed and the deep blue and green of the sea.

Makes one appreciate being alive!

During our 6 day tour of the Eastern Cape, we spent the night in Knysna. We went to a restaurant on the boardwalk at the marina and I was impressed by the carving of this giant tree which is displayed at the end of the boardwalk.

This is my entry for 52 in 2014 - #38, Handmade. This is one of the first bears that I made and I can't bear to part with it. She sits in my display cabinet at home. I have made lots of other bears for family and friends since then.

We used to call into this hide each afternoon on our way out of Pilanesberg Game Park. There were always many birds roosting and on one occasion we spotted a huge crocodile stalking some of the birds. He had a couple of lunges at the birds on lower branches, without success.

What a birthday trip I had on Saturday.

6 hour round trip ferry ride and 438 miles on the road taking in Loch Lomand, the Grampion Mountains and ending up at Glencoe.

To say the scenery is magnificent is an absolute understatement. I think in the first ten miles of Loch Lomand we had stopped about 20 times, actually it was more, "Shane stop, stop" and Shane screeching on the brakes.

Even had a flat tyre and when Shane put the spare on that was almost flat too.

Mind if one is going to have a flat tyre having it at the Drovers Inn in Inveranrnan was the best place.

Amazing scenery, Ben Glas waterfall and the best bread and butter pudding.

We were facing being towed back to Glasgow but the RAC man pumped the tyre up and we were in business again. Lost two hours but it wasn't a hardship.

I was almost at a loss to which one of my 167 photos that I have kept to put up first.

So instead of starting at Loch Lomand this is one of the mountains near GlenCoe and I just loved the drama of the barren mountain with the light highlighting the snow.

And I will end the narrative here, otherwise, I really will be writing a book!

EXPLORED, NO 3 25th NOVEMBER

Somehow he got left behind when all the other trees were planted on the far shore, so he spends his day shouting across the lake, but he misses out on all the gossip.

The only other time I have seen water as crystal clear and as calm as this, is on another birthday trip to Kylemore Abbey in County Mayo (Republic of Ireland).

Funnily enough that too was glacier country as well.

Love how the hill undulated to be mimicked in the water and then at the top of the photo, peeking out through the mist is the snow capped mountains.

Major snow has been forecast this weekend (I know, I know, I said the S word) so by the time we go over to Scotland again in a fortnight, the roads will have all been snow ploughed.

Well thats the theory anyway!

EXPLORED NO. 79 3RD DECEMBER 2013

I really and truly didn't mean to hibernate this long but my wretched illness decided to accelerate at a galloping pace and as usual I shut down when the going gets tough.

Yesterday, I learnt that a very good friend of mine has been diagnosed with Ovarian and Bowel Cancer and for the millionth time, made me realise that our time is far too short for me to be burying my head in the sand.

Back in February, Shane surprised me with a four day trip to Killarney, County Kerry in the Republic of Ireland to celebrate our fourth Wedding Anniversary.

We stayed at the Lakeside Hotel which was fab with a capital F with easy access to the Ring of Kerry, a road which circles round the whole County.

I believe this is called Black Rocky Lake in the Killarney National Park and one of the benefits of sightseeing in February, is that we had this place all to ourselves.

One of those places that I felt an instant connection with. The water was incredibly still and absolutely crystal clear, the scenery was just gorgeous and to top it off there was still a smattering of snow on the mountain tops.

Shane literally had to drag me away from here as I was positive that a deer was about to make an appearance.

Along with Squirrels, deers are another one of my nemesis's!!

I am going to make a concerted effort to post and keep in touch with my flickr family. I am slow though as I can only take a limited time at the computer.

Good to be back!

I have decided to join Nina on her challenge to add a flower photo a day for 365 days.

A lot of the flowers are disappearing as the weather gets cooler, but I noticed this new bud opening amongst the fading beauties.

We have friends who live in Harpenden and we always catch up when we are in the UK. This antique shop in Hertford is always on Peter's list of places to see.

This is a beautiful white Lavender that is growing in my garden. I bought it on sale last year as it was almost dead and put in in a pot to see if it could be saved. It grew well (which is amazing as I don't have a green thumb) and flowered and this year I put in the front garden and now it is blooming madly and bringing lots of bees into the garden.

I couldn't resist taking photos of this little boy near Ely Cathedral. He was so cute to watch.

4 more sleeps until Santa comes.

We were in a hide in Pilanesberg Game Reserve when we saw this huge crocodile stalking some fish. It then tried to catch one and jumped out of the water - so exciting to watch. It missed the fish and then went over to some trees in the water where water birds were roosting and tried to catch one of them without success.

When we first arrived in the UK in August, 2015 we had three nights staying in a lovely B&B at Pooley Bridge, Ullswater in Cumbria. One morning I walked to the bridge and took some photos of the view from either side of the bridge. I heard today from another Flickr friend that the bridge has been washed away on the weekend in the floods - what a tragedy. Stay safe everyone.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2015 challenge - #21 Silhouette. I took this overlooking the loch at Dornie in Scotland. This is SOOC only resized in PicMonkey (I don't have Photoshop on this little computer.

This is the only dragonfly that I have managed to photograph this year. In fact, the insects have been frantic and haven't really slowed down or stopped for photos lately, even the bees for some reason. Either the insects are flying faster or I am getting slower LOL.

This is a Grevillea that is growing in my back garden. The bees have been going crazy the last few days - maybe now that the weather is beginning to cool down they are stocking up for the Winter.

When we visited our friends Judy (www.flickr.com/photos/judy4652/) and Mervyn at South Kyme in Lincolnshire, we went for a walk around the local area. It is such a pretty little village and their house backs on to a canal, which means lots of photo opportunities. The above church is the village church of St. Mary and All Saints.

I love these African birds - they look almost prehistoric. Taken in Pilanesberg Game Park.

We saw a few lots of Highland Coos today - I love them!!

I am still going okay. I don't have a lot of pain, but every so often I will move my arm and I get a dreadful sharp stinging pain which feels like the stitches are tearing. I have them out tomorrow, so hopefully this will settle down then.

Another beautiful butterfly that I saw during a visit to Stratford upon Avon Butterfly Park.

Today we drove to the Isle of Skye through some of the most amazing scenery that I have ever seen - a 250 mile round trip, but worth every mile.

Another shot from last weekend, this time early morning, and a blanket of heavy frost and scattered fog. It was really spectacular out there, amazing scenery, I dont think the photos do it justice. Look forward to a return trip!!

When we were on our East Africa tour we stayed in Knysna. We went on a sunset cruise and this is what I captured. The first sunset photo I am happy with.

One of the many souvenirs that I spotted when driving around the beaches of the UK.

I just watched the fireworks on TV. They are certainly spectacular, but in my opinion go on for too long. By the time of the big finale, there is so much smoke around that it is hard to see the Harbour Bridge in all it's glory. Maybe it is different when you are actually on the harbour watching them unfold.

This photo is from New Year 2011 when we watched the fireworks from a friend's unit overlooking the harbour. It was magical, but then we had to make our way home which took over two hours.

Another shot of the beautiful Highland cattle bull that is in a paddock near Blair Castle.

I took this at Easter, where despite the murkiness of the sky, it was really warm and I am beginning to think that was our one and only shot of having a Summer this year!

Bit of a stiff breeze blowing which gave me the wave action I love, but I seem to recollect in the dim recesses of my mind that they may have been a storm way out in the Atlantic and we were getting the tail end of it.

Sadly I cannot trot to the breakwater now to get my head on shots of the waves breaking as it is too far for me to walk, but getting a side on shot isn't too bad as I get to see the explosive elements in the wave.

The couple on the breakwater actually give a great perspective of how big the wave actually is, but they certainly are not local because not even I stood on the breakwater when the waves were this big.

I do have sensible moments sometimes!!

52 weeks of photos challenge - this week the theme is Texture.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2014 group - #24 Stripes.

Three miles east of Aberfoyle in the heart of the Trossachs is the Lake of Menteith, a regular feature in Scottish trivia quizzes as the answer to the question "What's the only lake in Scotland?" It is arguable that the correct answer to that question is that there are no lakes in Scotland: there just happens to be a loch called "The Lake of Menteith".

You can catch a small ferry from the Historic Scotland Pier for a seven minute trip to the island of Inchmahome, to visit Inchmahome Priory. You are unlikely to be alone on the lake: it is common to find it dotted with small green motor boats occupied by fishermen in tweeds and Barbour jackets.

When we were watching the elephant herd at the waterhole in Addo Elephant Park, some of the young males put on a show of push and shove for us. It was entertaining to watch but probably not in earnest, just trying to show who was the boss.

I was taking photos of the Pelican sitting on the light when it began carrying at the other Pelican flying in. The other Pelican didn't care and landed anyway LOL.
