Steel girders ear marked for the construction of a new casino in my town. These are only a few of a much larger number that are being stored in a local parking lot. Their are a sure sign that the construction project is getting closer and closer to completion.

Our Daily Challenge - Getting There - 7/12/16

..I have been meaning to add a 'down' to the 'up' so to speak..

..I am happy with the design but not the execution..I tried to fix up some underspray on the body and messed it up..

..I learnt a lesson about what can and can't be fixed with stencils..

..then I got more undrespray on the lettering..!

..I will do another of both and get em nailed proper..!!!

; ))

My wife asked me to some painting the other week and it has quickly turned into "all the rooms!!" but I'm pleased to say that I'm getting there!!

I'm even allowed to have a round of golf and get to the gym as long as I "keep painting" when I'm not golfing or at they gym or taking a few photos!!

It was not turning out a good day for Chairiana Hindsite. Her new husband Clovis O’Yukski had promised her a train trip to Dirtpile City for their honeymoon. Little did she know the trip would be on a freighter pulling 104 oil-tank cars. Posing for the wedding pictures is a real challenge on a moving train, especially if the photographer is not aboard the same train.

Newly weds Clovis and Chairiana had to run to catch the freighter as it passed the farm. Clovis explained that he got a big discount on the tickets if they boarded that way. The photographer didn’t have a ticket.

Clovis was surprised to find that the train did not stop at DirtPile City either. They rode on to Saskatoon where they were able to disembark. Chairiana lost one shoe.

Not having packed for the climate, Chairiana and Clovis were taken in by a kindly homeless man with a grocery cart. Clovis found temporary work the very next day, ghost-writing for Craig Moxie and his Mysteriously Accurate Blog. (It is Mysterious because Craig seems to know nothing about any of this.)

The honeymooners soon caught a grain freighter back to Dirtpile city where they disembarked. Chairiana lost the other shoe which enabled her to walk much better.

The photographer, Helmundt Sock, a close personal relative and fireman, had taken the 627 roll of wedding pictures to Tutti’s Italian Ristoranti and One-Stop-Photoshop Drop. At Tutti’s where the motto is “A day without pasta makes your tummy feel nasta” the film was processed and finished by November. Clovis picked them up and he with Chariana and their three children had a happy afternoon sorting through them and giggling at the results. (By this time, Clovis was giggling a lot.) They glued them into a black paged photo album along with pictures of their pet chinchilla and the large rock out behind the trailer. Oh, the fun.

On the reverse it says: Bill Smith and Family. It is only a little more than a shack but the family lives and works there.

sunday

up at 6, woken by birds and dreams

in the garden, planting, tilling, dredging

bob's at the door

scones, pancakes from gifted mixes

fancier than the bisquick aging in the cupboard

mismatched mugs of coffee

weakened with too much milk

bob heads home

we go back to the garden

florian tells me to stop

i'm overdoing it

but i can't

let the impatiens wait

ripping up dead roses

i plant sunflowers and nasturtium in their old holes

wondering if i'll kill them too

back inside for lunch

we watch sherman alexie's "the business of fancydancing"

it's not as strong as "smoke signals"

bored, florian wanders upstairs for a nap

but i watch, fascinated

disjointed memories

attempts to make anything

from everything

the movie's done, and i am restless

checking email, continuing a conversation

about the past, the present

all the hidden connections between them

i still feel restless

procrastinating, sabotaging myself

worried about the cat

who's drooling, hiding

i decide to take a bath

i need music, so i find an old playlist

matisyahu, beth orton

the bird and the bee

dirty feet mixing with salt and heat

i wonder what i will do

tomorrow

the cat comes into the bathroom

to see what i'm doing

and now i'm out of the bath

listening to the national's "fake empire"

watching a tree sparrow

wondering where the cat went

looking up recipes for matzoh brie

like my father used to make

in his tiny little kitchen

on 79th street

Had another chance at a shot of this little guy when he landed in the tree close to the feeders -the light was better than it was when I saw him the other day, and he was not too far away but I didn't manage to get a shot without branches in the way before he flew away. I'm hopeful that he will be back but I won't tell the Siskins and Juncos about that :-)

She sat alone in the corner

Dreaming her fading dreams,

Watching her world whistle and whine,

Away and without her.

Once more she thought, once more in the sky.

Once more where there is no horizon,

To fly, once more, to fly.

(Update Februrary 6, 2008) I'm recycling this again because I received a note from a man associated with this spectacular aircraft. Here is what he says:

Hello anyzazz65, Just an update for you and that link you

posted here, I was at her side in Salina in January, she

looks a bit sad now, holes appearing in the surfaces. Have

posted some pics of her, she still looks salvagable, but im

short on the cash at the moment.

The link hasn't been updated since 2003, so im sure some

people would like to know whats happened, or not.

I see her whenever I'm up on the road through Salina, as i

live in Wichita.

regards

Steve

My goodness! He's been in there a long time.

According to a sign, the biggest waterfall in Croatia - the height is 78 meters.

Anyway... Waterfalls schmaterfalls... They're all right I guess ;B but what REALLY made me text home incoherently about Plitvice were THE LAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY FSM. Them, and a load of extremely pretty damselflies and adorable dice snakes. OMG OMG.

(Swimming was not allowed, btw.........)

The park is a couple of hours by bus from Zagreb, whose bus station is down the street from the train station. I had read (on... THE INTERNETS!) that the bus station was a safe place to spend a night, so I did. :) And no one bothered me. Chairs were uncomfy though.

When I got to Plitvice, I was going to look for a possibly-existing hostel or a rental room in the nearest village. But as soon as I arrived, I happened to hear from another tourist that at least one of the park hotels (Hotel Bellevue) was WAY cheaper than I had imagined, so I stayed there three nights. OH THE BACKPACKERLUXURY. :D

Here's what the hell happened when I ALMOST visited Plitvice in 2011... :p

Still waiting for squares from six people, so I do think I'll make it to queen sized! Yay! Don't they all look awesome together? Mind you, I did not arrange, them, just laid them out from the stack!

“One time I was standing on a corner in Chicago & a man stopped his car & asked for directions to a place I knew & I said that's too easy, ask me something harder & he yelled & said he wasn't playing games kid & then he drove off & I think about him sometimes & wonder if he ever got there.”

It was too cold to snap any pics outside, so I took a few along the way to the trail head.

I've been hassled and gotten plenty of stink eye but lately the cta has just been ruthless. The happy conductor pictured above took it upon himself to threaten me with arrest for "taking pictures of the cta."

He ended his rambling with, "I'm callling the police now!"

After he left, I waited around for a good 20 minutes for the calvary to no avail. I wanted to see how far they would go.

The photography policy for the cta is below for your perusal, and the link to the policy on their website is even further below. I'm going to carry a copy around to possibly quell any arguments and save myself and other riders time. According to the policy, cta personnel are really unable to do anything about photographer's except "ask them to stop" if the photographer is not in compliance. I'm going to keep on shooting. Photography is not a crime.

CTA Photography Policy

The general public is allowed to take snapshots in public areas.

Equipment such as lighting, tripods, cables, etc. is not allowed – except in instances where commercial and professional photographers enter into contractual agreements with CTA.

Photographers are not allowed to enter or photograph non-public areas of CTA stations.

Photographers are prohibited from obstructing transit operations, interfering with customers and blocking doors or stairs.

CTA personnel may evaluate the actions of photographers on a case by case basis to determine if a photographer is in compliance with guidelines. If a determination is made that the photographer is not in compliance, CTA personnel may ask them to stop.

I was trying to capture the clarity of the waters and skies in Aruba the way i remember it. I couldn't get the Sky right tho.

Thnx for viewing and commets, it means alot!

I suppose I have to clean them too.

This is a rough contact print I found in a pile of snaps in a Fowler, Colorado antique shop. The propietor, who said his shop has been in the same place for 20 years, spun a yarn about the people and how the fish were caught on a reservoir lake near there... He changed the name of the lake twice during the story...
