Milky Way towards Aquila.

Still working on my processing flow and trying to get the camera settings right. I used my 23 mm f1.4 for this shot and did not have a very dark sky. Still, Light Room does a good job cutting through the haze and light pollution.

The main idea here was to get the settings in the camera as good as they can get and save them to one of the three memory locations. Then I can recall those settings later when I am under a much darker sky.

As the final few weeks for the wonderful machines that be River Link's Bristol VR's draw to a close, I thought i'd best get out on my day off and make the most of them. What a stunning day it was too. Here are some of the snaps I managed to get and I shall be there at the farewell day too to have a few more last minute rides and get some more shots :)

If you spot some square dots on the pictures that's not a negative error. My sensor needs to be cleaned, but sadly I can't find any sensor cleaning kits right now where I live... Images came pretty nice n this roll, God knows how much I love to use my barnack leica... Good thing about working with a trusty gear is that you always know what will come in the end, not waiting any ''suprise'' results... You know what you will get, and you take your picture. Anything other than this gives me extreme anxiety, that's why I don't like to use other cameras...

not a great shot but I'll take it for now.

challenging birds to get, and not all that common in the lower mainland : )

I think this is the best I am going to get and I am alright with that. Was very happy I got to see so much of this bird, along with so many other happy birders and photographers. Well done, my Magnolia friend! (And I got a slightly better flight shot, too.)

My oldest, dearest friend, Vincent, and me. Stupid is as stupid does. Love can get, and often is, stupid. #4life

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

“A concise poem about our work as stated elow

A place without being

a thought without thinking

creatively, two dimensions

suspended animation

possibly a perfect imitation

of what was then to see.

A frozen memory in synthetic colour

or black and white instead,

fantasy dreams in magazines

become imbedded inside my head.

Artistic views

surrealistic hues,

a photographer’s instinctive eye:

for he does as he pleases

up to that point he releases,

then develops a visual high.

black_magic1969: Simmo wants one what brand did u get and do u recommend any others or models.

strats: @mattrobinson1969 I'll assume we're talkin about the robot vacuum. Get the LG Roboking. All the others are so bloody noisy, you have to yell and turn the TV up to hear anything. This thing is almost silent. It maps your house using a top mounted camera, if it runs out of power through a clean it will "mark" it's spot, return to the dock, charge and then return to the exact spot and continue. Pretty cool.

strats: @mattrobinson1969 if its the pool cleaner, the MX8 is fuggin awesome too.

shibz2311: Bahahaha classic!

I want to create a more scripted type for the positive and negative space. I am thinking that I will play with india ink and brushing it onto different textures to see what I can get and then scan it into illustrator to make a vector image for a possible laser cut.

Now I can enjoy their succulent stromboli, panini, insalta or dolce even more with free pizza coupons available from 1pizzacoupons.com. 1pizzacoupons.com offers a variety of different Vocelli Pizza coupons so I can continue to explore their menu each opportunity I get – and the best part is, I can print out the free online pizza coupons before I head for the airport or from my hotel. By using the free Vocelli Pizza coupons from 1pizzacoupons.com, I’ll soon be able to afford to fly back on my own just for fun so I can have one more taste of Italian quality. Someone once told me.....

to have a child is to decide forever

to have your heart

go walking around

outside your body.

17 years later...... it still holds true!!!

What they failed to tell you....

is that the older they get,

and the choices they make

the more bruised your heart becomes.

I was in my neighborhood hunting for interesting places to showcase my favorite boots. Dead grass in every yard? Nope. Our concrete driveway? Not so much. A pile of dead leaves was about as good as it was going to get, and then I spotted it. The rain grate...and even better... dig the Robin's egg blue spray paint. Just one problem. Grates on the ground are meant to fall through if you just go around tempting fate by doing something crazy like stepping directly on one. I would never even consider standing on something like this until today. What is it about a camera that makes us brave? I would like to tell you that I jumped right on there and conquered one of my many irrational fears. It wasn't quite that inspiring. I couldn't even center my feet on the metal, but I am on that sucker none the less!

If you spot some square dots on the pictures that's not a negative error. My sensor needs to be cleaned, but sadly I can't find any sensor cleaning kits right now where I live... Is a little more than I'll ever get, and not to weigh more than the refrigerator.

the only good shot i get, and our shoes are in the way.....!!

There's nothing more restful than an herb bath and the aaah I get, and the okay feeling I cultivate just by soaking. My sore hips really needed this!

I can't believe how active and fast they are getting! And it doesn't show up in pictures, but most of them have a lot of fur (the runty boys are behind in development and still quite bald).

...not jojo

My sense of direction is infamous. It really is the ONLY thing about myself that I'm not willing to joke about (this is as close as I'll get and only because of those ridiculous commercials). I WILL turn left instead of right, miss the exit, forget the street name, etc. Places do not exist in any sort of spatial relation to any other place in my head. They are are all in pockets of 'here' or 'not here' and it is very frustrating when people don't understand that. To combat this, I keep a stash of maps and hand-written/printed out maps to places.

I can currently get to work, to my physical therapist (but only from work) and to the mall/shopping center (both of which is within walking distance) from home without a map/directions. I've lived here since the end of October.

This is one of my limitations.

I accept this.

I work daily to deal with it, but just fighting against it gets me nowhere.

First upload in a while! Picked up a Galaxy Nexus today. The camera was a real point of contension when deciding on what phone to get, and in all honesty, this phone is very impressive!

North Star Roller Girls league action on December 5, 2009, at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, MN.

The Violent Femmes took on Delta Delta Di, and the Banger Sisters went up against the Kilmore Girls. Action was fast and furious, and people had a great time. The crowd was 1,535. :-)

Usually I don't whine but I just gotta say this. Probably my greatest unheralded feat as a photographer for NSRG is making it look like there's actually decent light in the Minneapolis Convention Center. There isn't. A few anemic top lights are all we get, and the bounce off the floor is next to nil. So these photos are almost all shot at ISO 6400 with a fill flash and fast lenses open to f2.8. And they all took a week or more in Lightroom to get in decent shape. What I wouldn't give for a venue with proper lighting! :-P

Gentry Owens gets and autograph from a 442nd Member.

I asked Helen to take a pic of me on her balcony with the ship's name behind me. This was the only angle she could get and it is not a pretty one. LOL

I really love getting and giving encouragement ( a truly wonderful word )

so thanks all my flickr buds... this one is for U!!

Have a joyous and SAFE upcoming Halloween and look out for the wee ones!!!

Keas are friendly, inquisitive parrots in New Zealand which come up to people, nibble at shoe-laces windscreen wipers, etc. This one was off the Milford Road in South Island and was hoping to get (and did get) some food from the appreciative passers-by.

Closest I could get and digital close-up

Day One.

Of 365 days. I started this one full year, one photo a day challenge to push myself to become a better photographer, Practice, practice, right? Lets just hope i can stick with it hopefully starting this challege on Friday the 13th isn't a bad omen. Yet Friday the 13th has inspired many artist so who knows, It might just be perfect. Either way here i go, lets see how far i get, and how much i learn. Hopefully quite a bit because I'm already pressed for ideas.

bahaha, facial expression could be better.

On the night of May 10th to 11th, there was a solar storm rated G5 (as big as it gets) and the Earth go hit with a lot of solar wind which gets ions in the atmosphere very excited. Lots of people in the northern hemisphere got to witness a very rare event!

New Years Eve Scrabble game.

These photographs were taken from the footpath leading from the Youth Hostel car park to the beach at Porth Nanven. The sat nav should have taken us to Porth Nanven via St Just, which would have been on a tarmac road taking us straight to the car park only a few yards from the beach. This very uneven footpath took us to some huge granite rocks on the coastal path where I had to remain as it was too steep for me to climb down to the beach to take photos. So off Jim went as he is fitter than me, but he told me afterwards that even if I had reached the beach I would not have been able to climb over the rocks to take any photos as it far too dangerous for me. I was a little disappointed but it was not raining and there were some beautiful landscape shots I could get, and I had company of a local man who was walking a friend’s dog and was telling me about the local area.

this is my compositional masterpiece because it was a really hard shot to get, and I tried to show the beauty of college station.

Birthday girl gets and unattractive stripper.

Yet another Half Dome photo this time at dusk. You should see how many Half Dome photos I am not posting. I would have liked a little more pink in the clouds behind but you take what you can get and it was till a stunning view.

Some fusion we didn't quite get, and which we surmise lost flavor in translation.

The Portland Lobster Company had a band playing on the dockside patio, and the packed crowd was paying more attention to it than guys like this usually get. And the guy was pretty decent, even though the band was of that genre of local music I call the "Brown-eyed Girl Band." These are bands made up of middle-aged folk I've generally identified in the past as Boomers who can be counted on to play "Brown-eyed Girl" at least once during their set. But this particular "Brown-eyed Girl Band" brought me to a revelation as I listened to them do covers of '90s hits from bands like Matchbox 20 or Pearl Jam. Time has moved inexorably onward, and the Brown-eyed Girl Bands have transitioned from Boomers to Generation X. That guy's my age. Now WE'RE the Brown-eyed Girl Bands.

A Side Note: There have been two popular versions of "Brown-eyed Girl," and while I prefer the original by Van Morrison, when you're sitting on a dock with saltwater on the air, you're hearing the Jimmy Buffet version. Buffet was a Boomer who hit it big well before my time, but I feel like when it comes to dock music, he transcends generations. Honestly, I was never a big fan, because I don't like Florida, but Robin was. One of her formative memories involved a lot of underage drinking at a Cincinnati Jimmy Buffet concert in her high school years, and she was wearing a shirt from that concert the very first time I met her in August of 1991 on the campus of the University of Kentucky. As you probably heard, Jimmy Buffet died last Friday of cancer at the age of 76, and Robin spent much of the weekend humming "Son of a Sailor" to herself. I prefer "A Pirate Looks at Forty" as I sit here shooting past fifty.
