We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Simply brilliant. This gorgeous necklace is meant to be wrapped around 2-3 times allowing the chain to hang at various lengths, but really the ways in which it can be worn are nearly endless.
The steel pendant that hangs from some 60 inches of chain has been hand shaped and ground, creating an array of sparks and lights, the heat from which is immortalized in the colorations at the top of the pendant leaving you with an "oil slick" appearance. The pendant comes in at 1 3/4" in length by nearly half an inch in width. It is bold, it is attention getting, and it is incredibly striking. A different lizard, not so fat. I've noticed the older the lizards get, the fatter and lazier they seem to get, and the more they seem content to just watch me as I photograph them.
Warm tones really obvious hear from fa 43mm limited lens.
These photographs were taken from the footpath leading from the Youth Hostel car park to the beach at Porth Nanven. The sat nav should have taken us to Porth Nanven via St Just, which would have been on a tarmac road taking us straight to the car park only a few yards from the beach. This very uneven footpath took us to some huge granite rocks on the coastal path where I had to remain as it was too steep for me to climb down to the beach to take photos. So off Jim went as he is fitter than me, but he told me afterwards that even if I had reached the beach I would not have been able to climb over the rocks to take any photos as it far too dangerous for me. I was a little disappointed but it was not raining and there were some beautiful landscape shots I could get, and I had company of a local man who was walking a friend’s dog and was telling me about the local area.
Because we wouldn't want adulterated evil, after all. (pun very much intended)
So the good news is that the offer was accepted, and barring some major catastrophe, I will be a homeowner by February 20th! It's a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, though there's still a lot to do between now and then. Now I get to find out just how good of a rate I can actually get, and walk around with the inspector, and ... lots of other details that are currently escaping me.
But... I have a house!
It's time to celebrate! ... by having a glass of wine and doing my homework. Woo.

Just another one walking home from work late night, I didn't catch the first train I normally get and miss the second by a matter of seconds, as a result I'm home well after I intended and again exhausted. This is at the side of the Croxton Park Hotel, a walk I'm normally on as the sun goes down, not tonight.
There really isn't a macro mode, so I was just guessing how close I could get, and took the shot at about three feet. As this was in the shade, the flash activated.

Huima is such a climber nowadays. That is, after I taught him to climb on smallish stones last week. Now he will head towards them thinking about all the treats he might get. And jump to sofa (which he didn't do before, even if we tried to call him) and isn't scared of lions...

Seniors get gyped in the Liberal grocery rebate

Grocery rebate - Liberals are claiming they are giving Seniors 225 for groceries ?
April 3, 2023 - Liberals say that to make life more affordable during a food crisis, their budget 2023 delivers a new grocery rebate offering food inflation relief for 11 million low or modest income Canadians and families who need it most.
Thet have announced that their one time only grocery rebate will give up to $467 to eligible couples with children; and $234 for a single Canadians without children; and (the lowest amount being offered) ,, $225 for Seniors,

Don't Grannies need groceries too ?
The Liberal announcement that a grocery rebate is to be given out as help in an urgent food crisis makes it appear as though an amount of $225 is given to Seniors ? In fact this benefit will be handled similar to the way the GST is administered and therefore like the GST, it can only be given to 1 of the 2 partnered seniors living under the same roof ? This means that although they are both individual Seniors, the so called 225 Seniors grocery rebate payment can only be issued to 1 of the 2 co-habitating Seniors (similar to the GST), or the Seniors could split the check between them at 112.50 each ? This cuts the real and true Seniors grocery benefit down to 1/2 of the amount they like to make it sound in their ads that Seniors are getting ? And this makes these Seniors by far the least rewarded of any person receiving this desperately needed Government assistance ?

Having learned from my Alberta experience, I actually didn't buy a whole lot when I went out West this past week, really brining back three large items and one small figure... along with some produce.
Having to drag items across two flights and about 600 km of driving, I naturally went for the more uncommon of items, the first of which is this Queen's Gate x Tekken PVC scale statue of Lilii Ryona of Tekken 6.
Queen's Gate is actually related to Queen's Blade in that characters had illustrated books for desktop battles. The difference is rather than featuring original characters, Queen's Gate was written to be a portal of sorts that brought licensed characters from other universes into the fray. Memorable ones include Kasumi from Dead or Alive, Mai Shiranui from KoF and Dizzy from Guilty Gear.
While the rules of battle applied to these guest characters, sadly the nudity rule did not. This of course, also extended to character goods, which is why you generally won't find cast off of any Queen's Gate entries, with the sole exception of Alice, who crossed over from the Nitro+ universe where they really don't have a problem with that sort of thing.
Lily is a fighter, IIRC, that premiered in Tekken 6, and is the guest character from that franchise. Sculpted in a very ecchi kicking pose, this is about as perverse as you're gonna get, and if memory serves me correctly, this is probably the most exotic of the statues.
It seems this particular statue is of Lili in her P2 colours, which is some sort of limited release. I would have preferred the white P1 colours, but a win is a win.
Getting these statues were also a bit more annoying that it needed to be because they were mail order only at the time, though they didn't really cost that much more than your typical 1/8 Queen's Blade entry.
While great detail has been put into the sculpt, in particular the legs and groin, the face and hair are somewhat of a letdown in comparison to the rest. Having said that, this is an old statue, released in 2012, though I think this might be in the ABC/PVC era. What is more important to note is that while Hobby Japan may have released this piece, the Queen's Gate statues were produced by a wide variety of companies, and as a result may not have consistent production values as compared to Megahouse, who were the most consistent at their releases.
There was an additional mini stand included to, from what I can tell, prop the leg up. Based on the pose, I can see this becoming an issue so props for being proactive, though again, it may never be an issue due to the use of ABS.
The paint work is also evidence of its age. It's not terrible, but compared to modern statues, even the Kotobukiya Bishoujo line, things are looking a bit sloppy here - remember these were premium statues.
To spice up the the statue a bit, there is actually kicking effect included, which matches the little energy twirl on her left foot, which is attached to the base. It doesn't change things tremendously, but it's nice to have.

One of our favorite pictures from our last 365 was a shot of MoMoBeBo being basted. Today Pookie put the last stitch in it to finish the hand quilting, so we had to re-stage it to show off. It was a perfect day for it, too, what with finishing certain other top secret projects also happening. It was a finish-palooza at Maple Hoo on our holiday Monday!
A "green" beer, that is made with fresh, not dried, hops. And a delicious pint it were too.

Its good to be home, and its doubly good to be the weekend too.
And the weather was expected to be up to 10 degrees above seasonal norms, so lots of opportunities to get and do stuff.
With me away again for four days this week, we needed little shopping, but as we were off out with friends that evening, we bought wine and cider as the Dining Club doesn't sell booze.
Back home for bacon butties and brews, then at ten, off out for a walk, as the weather was so glorious.
Still no Clouded Yellows in the fields of lucerne, but one I had climbed to Windy Ridge, there were butterflies galore along Green Lane, and dragonflies, all Common Darters, in good numbers too.
I had indented to go just across the fields, but ended up doing the full circuit, along all of Green Lane and then back down to Collingwood and home.
Along Collingwood, I saw a Hummingbird hawkmoth flitting for somewhere to perch, so to get out of the breeze. And sure enough it did settle, allowing me to get shots.
9,990 steps done, and all hot and bothered.
Worth it, though.
Back home, I got baking.
We had a leftover tin of pineapple slices, and I got the idea of making an upside down cake and real custard, as I had made a lemon custard for the recent Italian lemon tart.
I found recipes for both, but adapted the one for custard using single cream and milk instead of double cream, and using less liquid to ensure it was thick.
Well, readers, as you can see, both came out well, and the custard with a mix of vanilla pods and extract was perfectly flavoured.
We sat down to eat just after one.
Yummy indeed.
And so, to the football.
There is something comforting in the live football commentary on Radio 5, interspersed with scores from the forty or so other English League games. I have the radio on and watch the videoprinter via the red button on the i player.
Norwich fail to hold on to a 1-0 lead, and conceded a last minute own goal at Coventry.
Then time for showers, as we were off out with Sean and Ange, to the Dining Club.
We went into Dover to pick them up, then back out to Deal, parking in the main square, walking through to the Just Reproach where, as hoped, there was a green beer on, this one by Hop Fuzz.
And finally to the club, where only seats on the ground floor were being used, we sat down and enjoyed:

Sean and I decided we needed port, so I found a local wine shop that was open, we walked between courses to the store to find it a part music club where just a single couple were listening to a guy noodling on an electric guitar. We get a bottle of port, go back in time for desert and the cheese course. And as conversation flowed, three quarters of the bottle of port vanished.

These photographs were taken from the footpath leading from the Youth Hostel car park to the beach at Porth Nanven. The sat nav should have taken us to Porth Nanven via St Just, which would have been on a tarmac road taking us straight to the car park only a few yards from the beach. This very uneven footpath took us to some huge granite rocks on the coastal path where I had to remain as it was too steep for me to climb down to the beach to take photos. So off Jim went as he is fitter than me, but he told me afterwards that even if I had reached the beach I would not have been able to climb over the rocks to take any photos as it far too dangerous for me. I was a little disappointed but it was not raining and there were some beautiful landscape shots I could get, and I had company of a local man who was walking a friend’s dog and was telling me about the local area.
Can only get and drink at a certain time in the morning (sometime b4 11am) from the root area of coconut.

I think I have finally solved the puzzle of Assignment 5. Throughout this course I have struggled with the demand to take photographs of people. For me not really a problem, but for the people, big problem. I tracked down the law on photography in Germany. It is illegal to take a photograph of a person without their prior consent. If those photographs are to be published in any form Including web based social media), that needs to be written consent. And there's me trying to do street photography... I am fed up with the hostility I get and the worry about legal issues.
So, for Assignment 5, I am going to study the people of Richard-Strauss Strasse, but without showing their faces. In so doing, I must produce images that contains signs of their lives, symbols of their presence. In many respects this is a greater challenge than seeking facial expression and body language. It also brings me back to where my heart is in photography, the study of society through the landscape people create and dwell within.
Plus this way I don't get thumped:)

It kinda bubbles in your mouth as you chew it. The more it mixes with your saliva, the slimier it gets and as you chew, it mixes with air so it starts to sort of froth.
