All of my cousins are getting and old and graduating from High School. It's weird, like Miriam should not be a senior, but it has come to pass!
My how time passes, and how the days add up....
One of the few structures to survive the raid of Bloody Bill Anderson on Danville MO on October 14, 1864,
Believing the union troops were hiding in the various structures, Anderson's troops were preparing to burn it down (like most of Danville). Several girls pleaded in their best southern accents that they were just southern girls getting and education and begged them not to burn the academy. One is even rumored to have hung her petticoat over this building's door. Anderson's raiders relented, and did not burn any of the academy's buildings.
This is the only one of the structures remaining from the Academy. It is being restored by the county and a couple of historical groups.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

I remember one of the first novels I read as a teenager, Judy Blume's 'Are you there God? It's me, Margaret'. It got me thinking today about "infallibility". I don't know if any human being should be deemed "infallible", one thing about being human is that we're all bound to make mistakes. I'm a sinner, plain and simple. I suppose what distinguishes good and bad people are the redeemable qualities we are capable of displaying.
Spirituality and faith are fickle. We try to find faith in different things, in religious organizations, in heroes or idols, in nihilism, some even turn to atheism. At the end of the day though, I think that faith is subjective, the freedom to choose always comes at some cost and as clichés go "freedom is never free"...
Needless to say, I need to be filled...

The second of two pieces I got on clearance from Bandai Namco during Black Friday 2022 was this Storm Collectibles Zangief, based on his Ultra Street Fighter 2 appearance.
Funny thing is that it is the Event Exclusive colour, which technically should be harder to get and cost more aftermarket, but here we are - I think it was like $50 USD?
My best guess? People really, really love their P1 colours and refuse anything else.
I actually own a SFV Zangief and generally wouldn't have bitten even at this price, but the Zangief I have cam with a really bad waist joint, to the point where it doesn't actually hold together properly.
I also just realized I was too lazy to fish it out of a cabinet to do some comparison photos.
The two are the same height and are actually much different aesthetically than you would think - they're actually two very different figures, though as youc an imagine the base body engineering is the same... which means that Zangief still has a functional neck joint.
Yes, that sound stupid, but keep in mind that I've not opened a male Storm collectibles figure for quite a while now, and they actually stopped putting working neck joints in their female figures as early on as SFV Cammy.
This is also the company that ditched their stands, so really such a cost cutting step shouldn't surprise any one.
Several head sculpts are included with the figure, including an Ultra SF2 line exclusive "You Lose" head sculpt. They look appropriately ugly because well quite frankly SF2 Zangief wasn't as pretty as he is now.
In addition to the heads, the figure has several hands, two dedicated Banishing Fist palms and one actual effect. There is one stand which I think is to support the effect, but I can't find a hole anywhere to mount it.
Zangief's articulation remains good, though the actual range of motion is limited, particularly in the legs, due to the sheer bulk of them. Also, as one would expect some poses don't quite look natural.

I'm taking a well deserved brake after an incredible steep climb- almost straight up. But worse it will get. And in not to long - dark. There is no turning back now. And we hope we will reach the shelter before it's too late. Sleeping outside is not tempting.

Today’s The Daily Shoot’s assignment is: “Illustrate the word free today. Go with the first thing that pops into your head and make a photograph based on that idea.”
I woke up this morning around my usual time (5:30 – 6:00 a.m.) and checked out today’s Theme. Base the photograph off the first thing that pops into my head regarding the word free. Wow! Well, for some odd reason, the first thing that popped into my head was the song Free Falling by Tom Petty! Now, how to capture free falling? Jumping out of a perfectly good rented plane is out of the question! No place to bungee jump. Jump off the roof of our house? Nawww, not today.
Since I have neglected to rake the back yard, might as well put the leaves to good use eh! Did I mention it was raining (and still is)? I only got a few shots as I just didn’t feel like getting (and more importantly, getting my camera all) wet! Enjoy…

The Mrs was elated to get and build the Lego Grand Carousel as an early Mother's Day gift, but the cat was not impressed. Guess there is no pleasing some mammals.

The Plannerism-planner (and other planners) has a year-overview in the front. I use it to mark days with the colour of the type of appointment. It helps me keep a clear picture of how 'busy' I'll get and if I need to force some rest-days so I don't overdo it (I have a habbit of overdoing it ;) ). I use the glitter pink to mark obligated plan-free-days. Marking them like this also gives me an easy overview of how much time I spend doing what type of appointment, and if needed, plan more family or friends time (or less!)

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Although Chengdu is capital of Sichuan Province, for western tourists it is visited for its Panda Breeding Centre, or as a stepping stone to somewhere else - Leshan, Jiuzhaigou, the central overland route into Tibet, or to take advantage of Chengdu Airport's "international" status and to fly in or out from or to abroad (including Hong Kong).
We've now been to Jiuzhaigou and Leshan, so this time we are here for the Panda Breeding Centre, and for an onward flight to the UK via Hong Kong. However, we are staying right in the city centre on the eve of China's National Day - the only day's holiday most people get - and we were able to enjoy the lights of Chengdu.
Costa Rica 2014. Not the best shots, but the best I could get and the only sighting we had. We saw this in Corcovado National Park and it was moving through trees away from the path - which we were not allowed to leave. I had always thought that these were ground dwellers, digging into anthills - shows what I know!
Costa Rica has three species of anteater — lesser, giant and silky, this is the most common. Otherwise known as the collared anteater or Mexican Tamadua it is a distant relative of sloths. Anteaters inhabit lowland and middle-elevation habitats of the country.
It is a tree-dwelling creature that nimbly navigates branches using its prehensile tail. Their bodies are covered with gold or tan and black fur similar to a panda and they can weigh up to 18 pounds. Enormous front claws help the lesser anteater scale trees; they have an extra long claw on the third toe used for digging and defense. They use their prehensile tails for balance in the treetops and as an anchor when they go into a defensive position. They are primarily nocturnal and spend around 40% of its time in trees.
A specially adapted mouth and tongue enable lesser anteaters to consume up to 10,000 ants in a single day. Their long, sticky tongues have tiny barbs designed to grasp termites and ants from nests and underground homes. While ants, termites and larva make up the bulk of their diet, anteaters have been known to feast on fruit and eggs as well. Guided by a powerful sense of smell, anteaters can detect termite mounds and ant nests with ease. Avoiding insects with painful stings or bites, the lesser anteater deftly snatches up unsuspecting prey with its tongue, which can measure up to 16 inches! Their mouths are tooth-free, so the animals rely on powerful stomach enzymes to digest food.

In partnership with Causes and PARADE, the Case Foundation is launching the next America’s Giving Challenge on Wednesday, October 7th, at 3PM EST.
America’s Giving Challenge is a national online competition that enables passionate individuals and nonprofit organizations to easily leverage the web to increase awareness, attract new donors, and encourage people to get and stay involved with causes they care about.
Participants in America’s Giving Challenge will compete for daily and overall awards of up to $50,000, which will be given to the causes with the highest number of individual donors (not dollars).
By encouraging people to give what they can- no matter how big or small, America’s Giving Challenge seeks to demonstrate that philanthropy is about real people coming together to make an impact.
You don't have to leave the house to give something back to a deserving cause. Heck, you don't even have to get out of bed for this one!

Some things in life I cant get - and this is one - how anyone can like durian fruit!! On my first trip to Asia many years ago there was a sign behind the door in my hotel room that informed you that weapons, fireworks and durian fruit was forbidden in the hotel - with very good reason - it smells as if someone has been dead for quite a few weeks.
According to some of my friends from SEA it apparently tastes really nice - one you get past the smell.... well doing everything once - I did taste some durian ice cream - which was not unpleasant - but the smell was still there...

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
