Recent wildfire of California became deadliest in the state's modern history. Death toll raise to 42 now. More than 200 people are missing. Situation became worst when strong wind acted as fuel to fire. 1,30,000 acres burned till now. More than 8000 structures are destroyed, out of them 7,600 were homes. Geospatial technology is in vogue to mitigate forest fires. Web-mapping application hosted on web portal are used to make risk information and planning tools readily available to the public and local agencies in a timely and efficient manner. Such initiatives are extremely useful for the places at high risk of wildfires. Different spatial analysis tools are used to locate patterns prior to wildfire occurrences. Utilizing GIS technology allows us to identify the most important areas of wildfire occurrence. Latest and quickly available satellite imageries are used to analyse the damage and help in rescue operations. UAV (drones) are used to take a close view of the affected area.
