WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. – Gregg Williams, chief of Norfolk District geospatial section, walks across the deck of Great Lakes Dredging and Dock Company’s dredge, Padre Island, as it steams along in the Atlantic Ocean to deposit beach quality along the shore of NASA’s Wallops Island Flight Facility, May 7, 2012. The new beach will help protect more than $1 billion in federal government and Commonwealth of Virginia assets located here. Ryan Blount of Medina, N.Y. from the New York Army National Guard’s 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, build a sandtable to prepare for the headquarters Combined Arms Rehearsal here Oct. 3. The brigade leadership and staff are preparing for their rotation at the National Training Center as part of the unit’s upcoming mobilization and deployment to Afghanistan in early 2012. The exercise will include more than 2,000 Soldiers from the brigade, along with a battalion from the South Carolina Army National Guard, with a realistic, demanding training environment.
