FORT BELVOIR NORTH AREA, Va. -- The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Campus East, or NCE, celebrated its grand opening with an official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Sept. 26, 2011. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District led the design and construction of the $1.7 billion, 2.4 million square-foot facility. NCE is the third largest federal facility in the Washington, D.C. area, after the Pentagon, 6.5 million square feet, and the Ronald Reagan building, 3.2 million square feet. Pictured (L-R): Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Michael Vickers; U.S. Senator Mark Warner, D-VA; NGA Director Letitia Long; Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper, Jr.; U.S. Rep. James Moran, D-VA; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District Commander Army Col. David Anderson; NCE Program Management Office Director Michael Rodrigue; and David Thompson, President, Design Joint Venture.

NGA is the nation’s primary source of geospatial intelligence for the Department of Defense and the U.S. Intelligence Community. As a DOD combat support agency and a member of the Intelligence Community (IC), NGA provides geospatial intelligence, or GEOINT, in support of U.S. national security and defense, as well as disaster relief. GEOINT is the exploitation and analysis of imagery and geospatial information that describes, assesses and visually depicts physical features and geographically referenced activities on the Earth.
