Maya Hayuk is a Ukrainian-American artist. Maya Hayuk graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and the University of Odessa in Ukraine. In the nineties she started working as a photographer of the punk-rock scene in New York. Music has remained a key concept in her work to this day. She said: "I am super inspired by the rhythms and patterns that music creates in my mind, they are directly connected to what I make visible and I react very violently to music". She is a multifaceted artist. Maya Hayuk also says that she is subject to various influences: from Ukrainian folk art, to Tibetan mandelas, pop culture and modern art. She is not only a muralist but also a photographer, painter and curator. Her abstract and colourful works are dynamic and respect an elaborate geometry. The result are graphic works of psychedelic visual intensity, often a large-scale mural. Her large-scale, improvised murals speak of the artist's obsession with symmetry, "perfect imperfection" and outer/inner space. Her works look at expanding awareness and perception to find

In de negentiger jaren begon zij haar als fotograaf van de punk-rock scène in New York. Muziek is tot hier toe nog steeds een sleutelbegrip in haar werk. Het resultaat zijn grafische werken van psychedelisch visuele intensiteit, dikwijls een grootschalige muurschildering. Haar grootschalige, geïmproviseerde muurschilderingen spreken over de obsessie van de kunstenaar met symmetrie, "perfecte imperfectie" en uiterlijke/ innerlijke ruimte. Haar werken kijken naar het verruimen van bewustzijn en perceptie om patronen en onderlinge verbondenheid te vinden.

Ses peintures murales improvisées à grande échelle témoignent de l'obsession de l'artiste pour la symétrie, l'"imperfection parfaite" et l'espace intérieur et extérieur. Ses œuvres visent à élargir la conscience et la perception pour trouver des modèles et des interconnexions.

Chicago's skyline still keeps a few thousand of these scattered across its rooftops, wooden water tanks perched on steel legs, most installed decades before anyone worried about curtain-wall aesthetics. Building codes once required them for fire suppression, and enough owners never bothered tearing them down once modern plumbing made them obsolete. This one's stayed put on a low brick warehouse roof, weathered to a deep charcoal, its staved barrel construction and spindly cross-braced legs looking almost handmade against everything glass and steel around it.
Behind it, two very different towers make the case for how fast the skyline keeps changing: a blue-glass high-rise with the flat, repetitive grid of an eighties curtain wall, and beside it a newer residential tower wearing its diagonal steel bracing right on the surface, structure as ornament instead of something hidden. The water tank sits at the hinge point between all three eras — old brick industry below, glass office tower to the left, exposed-structure condo tower to the right.
It's a small, stubborn survivor, doing no functional work anymore but still shaping the skyline's texture from above.
