A little while ago, I came across the B&W version of this picture, in fact it was a Post Card which suggests it was a publicity shot at some point. Good quality originals can be a joy to work with I find, though there's always some detail which will trip you up if you haven't first hand experience of the subject in question.

FHO 534D was a Metro Cammell / Weymann 'coach' bodied AEC Reliance new in 1966 to Aldershot & District. BLoTW shows it as being chassis type 6MU3R which would make it a very early AH505 powered machine with AEC's own 5 speed 'synchromesh gearbox.

"This car had been in storage from 1995 until 2000 when passed to the vendor, a friend of the previous owner. It has only three owners registered in total. We have been advised that the car has been well maintained, much of the work has been carried out by a Volvo dealer including the fitting of a new gearbox. It comes with the original service book with nineteen stamps, mostly Volvo, between 1989 and 2010, MoT's dating from 2006 to present, a large file of invoices, 2000 bill of sale, handbook and wallet. The mileage is warranted at 107,298.

The pinions show the wear of 50 or more years of workload.

One shaft is missing and maybe used as a sparepart.

A Day At Workshop

Center component consists of two 6587 3L axle with studs, with the stud end inserted into each of the pin holes of a 6536 (technic axle and pin connector). The 3L axle ends go through 1x4 technic bricks for a rock solid, unmovable axis to build the S-foil "scissor" action on. Three small 6589 12 tooth bevel gears complete the gearbox - and the top gear is where the technic axle goes in to turn the wings via a liftarm at top (camouflaged within the top greebles)

The 6536 is completely held in place with no wobble by the bottom 4x4 plate and the bracket tops (on which the 2x4 33 slope is hung off purely for decorative reasons.)

The 3L axle with studs isn't long enough to reach the 1x2 technic brick at each end, but that is no worry. A simple technic half pin, with pin side going into the technic brick, and stud side going into a 15535 (grey 2x2 round tile with hole), bridges the distance and creates a solid axle from front to stern.

The entire gearbox area is 4x4 studs across and only 5 plates tall. But since it is made of 90 degree bricks/plates - it makes it very easy to add other pieces onto it. One example is the pair of long technic bricks underneath the back fuselage which serve as (1) stability (2) attachment points to wrap the rear fuselage slopes on, and (3) solid attachment point to front fuselage section.

Other pieces I've added (not shown here) ensure the "open" angle does not exceed 30 degrees, with limiter plates put on both top and bottom of the gearbox extending over the s-foil "scissors" at appropriate positions.

The "120" in the name referred to the aluminium car's 120 mph (193 km/h) top speed (faster with the windscreen removed), which made it the world's fastest production car at the time of its launch (circa 1950)

spotted this 5-Speed Manual Gearbox and V8 engine combo Aston Martin shortly after i tried out the new iPhone at the nearby Apple store in Regent Street London, was on my way to JD Classics

Hey guys, i'm trying to build a 2 speed gearbox, can anyone help me ?:D

Spotted this very rare to see Datsun 280ZX, even rarer given its got the 5speed Manual gearbox. It was for sale for £7000. The interior and exterior is excellent, it was with the same family until in the SouthEnd Essex area since new. The interior is immaculate, i started the car and the engine is strong. Still got the factory original key and the seller was keen to show the full size leather wrapped spare tyre from the factory that was never used. Got power steering, windows, locks but no air con. The weather was miserable, constant fine drizzle and the tight spaces made taking pictures difficult. As far as spotting Nissan is concerned, this 280ZX was a breath of fresh air, such a shame that such whole some and solid Nissan / Datsuns are so rare and the boring plastics plentiful

Car park at St Julian Inn, Newport, Wales, United Kingdom.

Maes parcio yn St Julian Inn, Casnewydd, Cymru.

Morning of Wednesday 8th February 2023.

Bore dydd Mercher 8 Chwefror 2023.

About the photographs.

Am y ffotograffau.

This is Olivia, a model I booked for a two-hours outdoors photo-shoot, outside of Newport (Welsh: Casnewydd).

Olivia is wearing a winter style outfit containing of a Size L cream coloured faux fur jacket with hood from New Look. She is also wearing a light blue turtleneck jumper, trousers with shiny strips down the length, and white trainers.

Here, she is posing in front of a 2005 Land Rover Freelander.

It is a diesel 2.0L Td4 SE model with manual gearbox, and a BMW M47 engine. The tyres are BF Goodrich T/A KO2 All Terrain tyres on steel wheels. The Freelander was an entry-level Land Rover from 1997 to 2006, before being replaced by the Freelander 2 until 2015.

The location is the car park next to St Julian Inn, on the south bank of the River Usk.

With special thanks to the manager/owner of St Julian Inn for giving me permissions to use the car park.

As Olivia was booked for two-hours, we stayed at this location only for 50 minutes before moving to another location. Nothing wrong there, just that I needed a change of background. Those will be uploaded to my Photostream in near future.

What is this all about?

This is the first in a series of a long-term project I started working on, which is called Project: Freelander Ladies. It is a variation of the so called Land Rover Girls type of photographs. Generally, the majority of the Land Rover Girls kind of photos tend to be of younger women posing next to mostly either the Series or the Defender production models, and less common are the Discovery or Range Rover models. There are barely enough photos of women posing next to a Freelander, so my aim is to create some, specially for the Freelander owners and fans to enjoy.

Humber Super Snipe IV (1964-65) Engine 2965cc S6 OHV

Registration Number BUR 756 B (Hertfordshire)

HUMBER SET

www.flickr.com/photos/45676495@N05/sets/72157623665287863...

The first of the new Super Snipe series was launched in 1958. The new car was based on the unitized chassis and body of the four-cylinder Humber Hawk, but with a new 2.6 litre, 2,651 cc, six-cylinder overhead-valve engine based on an Armstrong Siddeley design

During its ten year production run the car underwent numerous changes, over five separate series of cars. The engine capacity was increased to 2965cc for the Series II of 1959 along with the introduction of front disc brakes.

The styling of the Series III introduced in 1960 is distinguished by its four headlights and revised full width grille. The nose of the car was lengthened 3.25 inches to accommodate an additional pulley mounted on the front of the crankshaft so that air conditioning could be included as an option, principally for the North American market.

The Series IV of 1964 had a slightly higher-tuned engine giving 124.5 bhp increased from 121bhp It can be distinguished by its revised rear-window treatment (doesn't wrap around quite as much as earlier models), Snipe bird badge on grille, opening quarter-light windows in the rear doors, and other trim differences.

The final Series V version of the Saloon saw an upper body restyle, (also applied to the Hawk Saloon) with a flat roofline and rear window, six-light side windows and a larger, taller windscreen. Twin Zenith Stromberg 175CD carburettors were fitted along with a Harry Weslake tuned cylinder head, increasing the power to 128.5 bhp and synchromesh was fitted to all ratios in the gearbox. Hydrosteer power steering was available as an optional extra, as was an automatic transmission (Borg Warner Type 35 on Series VA), and metallic paint finishes. Rootes Group ceased Humber production with the Series VA in July 1967, by which time the company was under control of the American Chrysler Corporation, as Chrysler Europe. The last of the Humbers were assembled by Chrysler Australia at Fishermen's Bend Port Melbourne, Australia in the early 1970s

I'm not sure but think that this is a voith box, it is certainly looks significantly different to the hydracyclic.

If it is a Voith then the chassis is one of GMT 3026 to 3035

Now confirmed as a ZF gearbox which now means that these chassis could be 3278 to 3305

My latest official model.

The LEGO Land Rover Defender was developed with Land Rover to get the details as close as possible to the real thing. The chassis carries three differentials and an independent suspension, as well as a working winch at the front of the vehicle. The model has opening doors, working steering wheel and a detailed dashboard. The new transmission system has two levers for changing gears and “LEGO Technic’s most sophisticated gearbox yet.”

The model’s rear seat can also fold forward to expose the four-speed sequential gearbox. The hood of the vehicle also opens to show the six cylinder engine with moving pistons. The model measures over 8.6 in/22 cm high, 16.5 in/42 cm long and 7.8 in/20 cm wide.

Lothian Country's 1004 (LXZ 5386), a ZF Ecolife D9B Volvo B9TL Wright Eclipse Gemini 2, seen here disembarking on a journey from Broxburn to Bathgate's Railway Station on, the now axed, service 275.

1004 was new to First Centrewest in late to mid 2010 as their "VN37902" and was registered as "BF60 UUM". 1033 predominantly operated the service 18 which operated between Sudbury and Euston.

UUM was later sold to Metroline in *2013, due to the demise of First Capital. VN37922 then was acquainted the new fleet number of "VW1854".

In 2017, 50 Gemini 2's, in the same batch as 1033, were all sold to Lothian Buses. However, this wasn't before 48 of them were sent to WrightBus in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, to receive an extensive refurbishment to high quality Lothian specifications.

The other two, 1001 and 1002, were refurbished at Thorntons in Ashington, England.

All 50 received private registrations which appear as "LXZ 53××" and "LXZ 54××".

25 were sent to Lothian Buses Central depot and all started working in Edinburgh between June and September 2018. The other 25 were sent to Lothian Country which started working West Lothian local routes, in August 2018, from the Longstone depot. This was until the purchase of the Livingston depot in March 2019. I'll discuss more later on.

The Gemini 2s from London were mostly bought of Metroline, which were previously owned by First Centrewest. Two of them from the first batch, 1001 & 1002, were previously owned by Go-Ahead London. These were purchased to upgrade their fleet as well as to provide Lothian Country with buses to operate their new, at the time, West Lothian services; X27, X28 and 275, which commenced operations on Sunday, 19th August 2018.

The first batch were 1001 - 1050. They began entering service in July 2018. The following two months saw the rest of the ex Londoners entered service. Lothian Country's ones were the last ones that required to enter service, they started entering service in August 2018 and were all in service by late September 2018.

These buses are rather unique to Lothian Buses for a couple of reasons. They have a shorter body than the usual double deck vehicles found in Lothian's native fleet. In Lothian's double deck fleet, their vehichles usually range from the lengths 11.3 - 11.5 meters, whereas the ex London B9TL's are only 10.8 meters long. Additionally, they have a ZF transmission instead of a Voith which all Lothian's Volvo B9TL Chassis had.

Out of the 50 buses:

25 of them went to Lothian Buses in their Central depot, these were; 1001 - 1002, 1005 - 1012, 1014 - 1027 and 1050. The remaining 25 found themselves at Lothian Country, these were; 1003, 1004, 1013 and 1028 - 1049.

The next batch of ex London B9TL's entered service in May 2019 (1000 and 1141 - 1153), these are different than the previous batch as these have an exit middle door, minus 1000. These have so far remained their entire Lothian Buses life the the Marine depot in Seafield apart from 1000 which was sent to Central in 2019 then transferred to Longstone in 2020 then subsequently back to Central in 2021.

One thing to note, in 2021 we saw 1031 be off the road for many months to have its gearbox replaced.

Throughout the late part of 2022 and early part of 2023, we seen the vast majority of Lothian Country's ex Londoners receive the new joint livery with East Coast Buses. So far, from Feb 19th 2023, all but 1003, 1013, 1028, 1030, and 1032 have been repainted. Currently, 1031 and 1038 are away at Ferrymill for repaint whilst 1003, 1030 and 1032 are queued to go. 1028 has been put into reserve. The biggest news regarding the repaints is that 1004 has came back in Lothian Buses livery (maroon and white). 1004 has been off road for a couple months whilst undergoing major repairs at Ferrymill. Since 1004 has been repainted into Lothian livery, this indicates that 1003 and 1013 will follow suit. It's unclear where 1003, 1004 and 1013 will end up but, it's likely they'll end up at, either, Longstone or Marine.

Notes:

1029 was withdrawn in July of 2019 following a collision with a low hanging bridge in Fauldhouse. 1029 was subsequently scrapped. 1029 was housed in Livingston prior to this.

This photo was taken at Broxburn, East Main Street, on Sunday, 14th of March 2021.

Thank you for reading, have a wonderful week, when it comes, and stay safe! 😊

Spotted this rare to see classic BMW in excellent condition, what surprised me was the 5 speed manual gearbox, when i saw it from a distance i expected such a UK market car to be an automatic. Very elegant design and looks, unlike the ugly current Christopher Bangle designs

Well it has taken me a while to get this right, but now the fun can begin!

Ex Stockholm Tramways Park Royal (H43/28D) Leyland Atlantean LPDR1/1. Early in 1966, Leyland won a most prestigious order, worth £2,500,000 against fierce world-wide competition. Stockholm Tramways decided to withdraw 400 older buses rather convert them to the Swedish change over from left-hand rule of the road to the standard Continental right-hand rule on 1st September 1967. Following Leyland supplying a prototype Park Royal bodied modified Leyland Panther PSUR1.1R demonstrator, Stockholm Tramways placed an handsome order for 200 Park Royal (B39D) bodied Panthers and 50 Park Royal (H43/28D) bodied Atlanteans. Which were delivered on time.

The Atlanteans were a special built chassis to a length of 36ft. 4 1/2in and powered by a Leyland 0.680 engine producing 165bhp and driving through a Voith fully-automatic torque convertor gearbox with push button controls. Other features include air suspension, power assisted steering, roof level exhaust discharge and a spring handbrake. The Park Royal body featured dual doorways and twin staircases, and were the largest buses built in Britain at the time, and the largest buses built by Park Royal, who faced problems in getting the completed buses out of their factory due to lack of space.

This was my second Range Rover 'Classic', a much nicer example which was a quite an early 4-door model.

I bought this one with offside front accident damage and not quite so much welding to do as on my previous one!

This had an Isuzu 2.8 diesel engine fitted, and also a ZF 4-speed auto gearbox from a much later RR.

Once I had repaired and MOT'd this one, it drove extremely nicely- apart from when you cornered quite quickly as it didn't have any anti-roll bars fitted.

Such were the rolling characteristics of this car on corners that one of ny friends likened travelling in it to riding on a Blancmange ;)

62 working its regular service 2

62 is a Scania N94UD East Lancs OmniDekka. It was purchased new by Ipswich Buses in 2005 to work the town network. 62 has a very high capacity which means it is great for school services and is regularly used on the 11a and morning 97 services. 62 was repainted in 2015 into a ‘hybrid park and ride spare’ livery using the blue from the Versa’s but incorporated into the battenburg style livery. 62 is powered by a 9 litre Scania DC9 engine coupled to a ZF Ecomat gearbox.

The 640 was powered by Ferrari's Tipo 035/5, a 3.5 litre V12 engine which produced up to 660 bhp.

This car had the very first semi-automatic gearbox seen in Formula One.

My LEGO versions has the usual working suspensions, steering wheels, V12 engine, rear diffuser.

Setra ComfortClass S511HD is the successor to S411HD, a famous compact club coach in the product range. This quality bus manufacturer has never forgotten to include a small coach option. The earliest integrally built Setra fell into this category, and has been produced over six decades.

Slightly longer than its predecessor, S511HD, at 10.5m, is still categorized as a club coach with impressively high standard specification. It is powered by a Mercedes Benz OM470 rated at 394hp which delivers torque of 1,900 Nm. The output is transmitted through a fully automated Mercedes-Benz GO 210-6 PowerShift 8-speed manual gearbox, with GO 250-8 eight-speed PowerShift optionally available. It also has ZF RL75E front independent suspension and Mercedes-Benz RO440 as drive axle.

I have had my eye on these gearboxes that are at work for a while and resisted the temptation to photograph them until now.
