- In fashion of the time, the car had a panoramic windscreen and a vertical speedometer, called "Clinical Thermometer" in Germany.
- In 1961 they introduced the “Frischölautomatik” ("Clean Oil Regulator"), a system incorporating a separate oil tank and pump to dispense the oil which, in a two-stroke engine, is mixed with the fuel ahead of combustion, to reduce the characteristic blue smoke emission
- In extreem cold winters, like 1962-1963, they had an unexpected increase in crankshaft damage because the oil, its viscosity affected by the cold weather, was unable to flow freely through the narrow feeder pipe in the carburettor .
- The car was equipped with 6 volts electric power system, a 4 speed manual gearbox with column-mounted lever control and front-wheel drive.

Go North East's unallocated Volvo B9TL/Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 6161 (LJ62 KZP), which carries the base livery of Go North East's corporate livery, is pictured here in the yard at Saltmeadows Road Depot, Gateshead, following delivery after repaint and refurbishment at Bus & Coach World, Blackburn. 15/02/18
New in October 2012, this vehicle was previously with Go-Ahead London General as fleet number WVL502 at Putney Garage.
It was recently displaced from Go-Ahead London's fleet and purchased by Go North East, in line with the contract for service 22 (Putney Common - Oxford Circus) being retained by London General with a new allocation of 22 Hybrid double-deck vehicles (a mixture of new Volvo B5LH/MCV EvoSeti plus existing examples already in the fleet), from 21st October 2017.
Representing an investment of over £1.5 million, 13 of these buses (WVL496 - WVL508) have now been acquired by Go North East. They will be refurbished and repainted at Bus & Coach World, Blackburn, prior to assimilation into Go North East's fleet.
As part of the refurbishment at Bus & Coach World, Blackburn, the entire batch will undergo exterior repaint, centre door conversion, fitment of an entrance door ramp, seats re-trimmed including extra padding, buggy bay created, with free customer Wi-Fi and new white LED destination displays also fitted.
Mechanically, this entire batch of buses have been fitted with a new Ecolife campaigned gearbox.
This example is the first to have been delivered, and carries Go North East's corporate livery.
Manufacturer: Ford Société Anonyme France (Ford SAF), Poissy / Paris - France
Type: Comète Monte Carlo Coupé 22CV
Engine: 3923cc Ford Flathead 239 V-8
Power: 105 bhp / 3.800 rpm
Speed: 156 km/h
Production time: 1954 - 1955
Production outlet: 699
Curb weight: 1470 kg
Special:
- This 2+2 seater fixed-head (notchback) Coupé was designed by Jean Daninos (Stabilimenti Industriali Giovanni Farina S.A., Torino – Italy, an older brother of the more famous Battista 'Pinin' Farina) and built by Facel Metallon SA, Paris – France (a French subsidiary of Ford), based on the French Ford Vedette with a Mercury chassis.
- At that time they were the most expensive Ford product in the world and the only Ford automobile with custom coachwork, although it didn't even carry the Ford badge.
- Its V-8 engine, normally fitted to Ford trucks, but buyers didn’t like the idea of having a car with a "truck engine". High taxes and the high price (51% higher than a spacious four door Vendôme) didn’t made this model a “sales success”.
- During 1954, Ford SAF was sold and the Comète's final year of production took place under Simca. The Simca Comète Monte-Carlo continued to be offered till July 1955.
- It has a three-speed manual gearbox, column shifter, a Zenith-Stromberg 32 DINX carburettor, a 63 liter fuel tank and rear wheel drive.
- The Facel chassis with steel body has a 106 inch wheelbase, MacPherson independent wheel axles, a large egg-crate grille (nicknamed “coupe-frites” or a “french-fry cutter” by the French), a fake hood scoop, a ribbed stainless steel dashboard, stainless steel door handles, an impressive jet-age three-spoked steering wheel, two-colour leather seat covers, steel wheels with chromed hubcaps and hydraulic drum brakes all round.
- A four-speed manual gearbox (pont-a-mousson gearbox) was optional, just like wire wheels, Dayton wheels and two-tone colouring.

The gearbox of a Matra MS120 (1970)
Taken at Historic Motorsport International / The London Classic Car Show 2017
The 3500 is part of the Rover P6 series. The were built from 1963 until 1977. The model was the first Europen Car of the Year back in 1964. This one has a 3.5 litre V8 engine, originally from derived from Buick. S stands for "Synchromesh".as these models are fitted with a four-speed manual gearbox.
Stagecoach Western's Van Hool TD927 Astromega 50232 and First Glasgow's AD E30D/AD Enviro 300 67874 are seen here at the ZF factory undergoing maintenance to their gearboxes.
Found in my garage amongst odds and ends. This is the gearbox from a Tamiya model tank. The two circular holes are where the motors sat and the gearing reduced the motors revolutions to the drive shafts which it turn were connected to the tank's tracks. The model was a 1/16 scale German Tiger I tank. The model is long gone.

One of 100 examples built for the U.S. market, the last coupé produced, and one of only two painted in Flamenco Red.
As this is in the news today I couldn't resist putting up a pic of this Black Maria which is to go up for auction next month at Perth.
Registered in 1951 it's an Albion FT coachbuilt van built for City of Glasgow police and has been a regular rally attender though the years. Here it is seen arriving at Bo;ness on the old Scottish Road Run in the 1990s looking very smart indeed.
It's connection in transporting infamous murderer Peter Manuel is of note in it's long career.
Beardly Designs asked me if I had "ever thought of making this 3D printable". So I made a few modifications to it (mostly to save material), and here is it.
It still seems expensive to me (haven't checked the price for the old version though), but if anyone's interested, you can get it on Shapeways.
The "no holds barred" version!
Still a W.I.P thats been shelved whilst I wait for my sticker guy to move house, but its almost there.
This is the model I initially always wanted to build, the JPE.
It incorporates a full tublar chassis including steering column, full underside details, easy to remove engine + gearbox, front and rear brake calipers (and brake hoses!).
Removable nose and bonnet.
Smoothing out the underside has been possibly one of the most difficult things I've ever built in LEGO with trying to retain strength throughout the chassis, as there is so much anti-stud to anti-stud connections.
Feelin like a bit of a 1 trick pony, but this car is such a great car to keep building more and more models of.
(BUT "some of you know what else I've been working on for the last 4 months;) )
If it inspires someone to have a go at detailing my standard set, then all good, go and treat yourself for Easter! :D

ALVIS SET

Introduced in 1923 the 12/50 became a very important model in the Alvis range It went through a series of versions, with the last ones being made in 1932. A range of factory bodies (made by Carbodies and Cross & Ellis) could be specified in two- or four-seat form, with either open or closed bodies. The first models were designated SA and SB and had a 1496 cc 4-cylinder overhead valve engine in a chassis with a wheelbase of 108.5 in and 112,5 inches for the SB.
The SC arrived in Autumn 1924 for the 1925 model year with a larger 1598 cc engine (unless the 1496 cc unit was specified for sporting use) and, like all the remaining cars, the longer chassis. Front wheel brakes were offered as an option on this model.
The 1926 TE had a new stronger chassis and a new 1645cc engine with the TF retaining the smaller 1496cc unit. A single-plate clutch replaced the previous cone type, and for these and all subsequent 12/50s the engine was bolted directly to the chassis, from the TE/TF onwasrds all 12/50's came with four wheel brakes as standard.
In 1927 the two models were replaced by the TG (1645cc) and the SD (1496cc) The TG was the standard 'touring' model, while the SD - powered by the 1496cc engine, now fitted with a large-port cylinder head was the more sporty option. Also available with these two models was the TH with the gearbox and rear axle ratios of the 'touring' TG, but the sub-1500cc engine of the SD. The TG and SD models were available until 1929.
The 12/50 was withdrawn from 1929 to 1930 with Alvis concentrating on their front wheel drive models. But sales were slow and the 12/50 was re-introduced. as the 1645 cc 1931 TJ continuing until 1932. The TJ is referred to by Alvis historians as being from the 'revival period', and it differs from its predecessor in a number of ways, notably coil instead of magneto ignition, deep chromed radiator shell, and rear petrol tank in place of the scuttle-mounted tank on most older 12/50s.

open diesel locomotive gearbox
seen at the RTM (Outdorp, Netherland) railway museum.
The pinions show the wear of 50 or more years of workload.
One shaft is missing and maybe used as a sparepart.
Center component consists of two 6587 3L axle with studs, with the stud end inserted into each of the pin holes of a 6536 (technic axle and pin connector). The 3L axle ends go through 1x4 technic bricks for a rock solid, unmovable axis to build the S-foil "scissor" action on. Three small 6589 12 tooth bevel gears complete the gearbox - and the top gear is where the technic axle goes in to turn the wings via a liftarm at top (camouflaged within the top greebles)
The 6536 is completely held in place with no wobble by the bottom 4x4 plate and the bracket tops (on which the 2x4 33 slope is hung off purely for decorative reasons.)
The 3L axle with studs isn't long enough to reach the 1x2 technic brick at each end, but that is no worry. A simple technic half pin, with pin side going into the technic brick, and stud side going into a 15535 (grey 2x2 round tile with hole), bridges the distance and creates a solid axle from front to stern.
The entire gearbox area is 4x4 studs across and only 5 plates tall. But since it is made of 90 degree bricks/plates - it makes it very easy to add other pieces onto it. One example is the pair of long technic bricks underneath the back fuselage which serve as (1) stability (2) attachment points to wrap the rear fuselage slopes on, and (3) solid attachment point to front fuselage section.
Other pieces I've added (not shown here) ensure the "open" angle does not exceed 30 degrees, with limiter plates put on both top and bottom of the gearbox extending over the s-foil "scissors" at appropriate positions.

spotted this 5-Speed Manual Gearbox and V8 engine combo Aston Martin shortly after i tried out the new iPhone at the nearby Apple store in Regent Street London, was on my way to JD Classics
Spotted this very rare to see Datsun 280ZX, even rarer given its got the 5speed Manual gearbox. It was for sale for £7000. The interior and exterior is excellent, it was with the same family until in the SouthEnd Essex area since new. The interior is immaculate, i started the car and the engine is strong. Still got the factory original key and the seller was keen to show the full size leather wrapped spare tyre from the factory that was never used. Got power steering, windows, locks but no air con. The weather was miserable, constant fine drizzle and the tight spaces made taking pictures difficult. As far as spotting Nissan is concerned, this 280ZX was a breath of fresh air, such a shame that such whole some and solid Nissan / Datsuns are so rare and the boring plastics plentiful
