I love the texture in this picture. Old wood is just great for this kind of thing. Also love the old hand forged gate lock and chain.

At first I was convinced this was an abandoned tripod of a particularly robust variety. Turned out to be yet another abandoned gatepost.

Built circa 1884, this Shingle/Eastlake-style house was designed by Samuel Hannaford for Walter Field, and was built on Reading Road in Cincinnati's North Avondale neighborhood. Built prior to his later Richardson Romanesque-influenced work, this house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The raised ground behind the gate where the fence runs along the top is supposedly the old Roman Road called Stanegate.
Another in the long-running "Gateposts we have known" series. This one is on the road to Vindolanda.
You can also just see Sycamore Gap in the distance.
