A verdant and fecund landscape. Towering cliffs and lofty pinnacles protect a rock strewn valley. The top of a decaying wooden gate post less than 15cm square.

Female blackbird [turdus merula] at The Pixies.
I was quite surprised to see this newcomer at my bird feeders - usually, there are only the tits, siskins, goldfinches, nuthatches, woodpeckers and the odd merlin...
It was really cold and here, some wee snowflakes make an appearance. Maybe the sub-zero temperatures had something to do with the baleful glare from the wee lady on the old gatepost.

Sitting on the gatepost at the end of my drive.
On my way to work, yesterday morning, this wee beauty just waited until I had my head together enough to reach over, get my camera, get the lens cap off and stick the camera through the window of my car. Brilliant early morning sunshine (7:30-ish) helped pick out some detail.

My 9 year old came in with a coin, just after we moved into our current house, convinced he had found treasure. Turns out the previous owners had cemented some old coins onto the top of a gatepost. Probably due to the Euro coming in. No idea what coin it is...anybody know?
Psalm 71:3
Be to me a rock of refuge and a sheltering stronghold to which I may continually come;
You have given the commandment to save me,
For You are my rock and my fortress.
“I have great faith. I have hope. I have love. I have so many things for which I am grateful, but I always felt something was missing within me. A gaping hole that could not be filled no matter how hard I tried. Last night I was given the gift of grace and all doubts were swept away and the peace that now resides in me is as unexpected as it is inexplicable. I don't question it. It just is and I am thankful. Now I know truly what it means to be in the light and I never want to return to the darkness. I tried to attain this state of grace so many times, but it cannot be forced or falsified; It required no effort. All I did was let go and the transition was as easy as stepping from one room into another. There is no fear; no anxiety; no pain.” - AP

GRACE – THE WHISTLIN' DONKEYS
A lady full of grace
is a beautiful creature to behold
she radiates the milk of human kindness
she is the greatest story every told
her eyes light up the darkness
her smile encompasses all
and in the depths of Winter
she warms the coldest soul
her step is light upon the ground
her footprint is so small
but her heart is big and full of love
she is the greatest of us all
graceful; elegant; sublime
she lights the way to goodness
she's pleasant; charming all the time
the epitome of beauty and gracefulness
I've only bathed within the light
of two people who were like her
I felt the gentle touch of angels
the peace descend upon me
last night a strange thing happened to me
the worst thing in many ways
I fell into a trance of sorts
felt a calmness in a daze
I thought it was a kind of seizure
the kind that bad news brings about
but the Lord works in mysterious ways
and he let me know what it was all about
I thought the peace would go away
perhaps in a little while
but it is still with me on this bless-ed day
a miracle lights up my inner smile.

I was up before sunrise and went for a wander from our BnB. The rock is probably one that was once pushed by a glacier but now makes a bold ah statement as a gatepost.
Have a good day.
I seem to have been spending quite a lot of my time here at nearby Beacon Fell. Its 3 miles away, so staying local I'm drawn here to walk and get the odd image. In fact I was up here in the dark all on my own on Tuesday night trying to see if I could get a shot of the Aurora Borealis, as the forecast was favourable, but I didn't see any signs of it. People a little further North did get some images of it though!
I popped up yesterday morning as this mist rolled in and I thought this may make a decent composition. Sadly the mist never really shrouded the forest too thickly, so this was a good as it got.
I like the fact that these little diminutive Beech saplings retain their golden brown leaves all winter and into Spring.

This Oystercatcher comes back, with her mate, every year to lay her eggs in this gatepost, and remains in all weathers!
There are still a few Wheatears hanging around waiting to leave our shores on migration.
This female was backlit by the setting sun on a gate post and allowed me to get really close.

Newly flowering buds hanging over the stone fence posts. I think they are plum blossoms, with wisteria in the background.
………I’ve taken this old gate post a time or two over the years - be a shame to pass it by this year I thought😊 so here it is again as I look back to admire the mist on Bassenthwaite. A favourite walk up Sale Fell. Alan:-)…….

His facial expression is a fact. The face is grotesquely disfigured. What does it mean? Why is it here, fixed to a gatepost of the Stables at Waddesdon Manor (Buckinghamshire)? All I can say is that Manor and Stables go back to the 1870s/80s and that this marble sculpture is of Italian origin, probably 18th century (and it has not yet been treated with fungicide as most of the other statues have been). The architecture here is generally playful, life-affirming perhaps - and now this! Is it a reminder of our fear, when examining the ground we think we are standing on, that there might be none? I took this during a recent visit to Glastonbury, Somerset, UK. This was taken after having just climbed the Tor.....blustery was to soft a word for the wind at the top......it took your breath away.....you could lean into the wind and let it batter you.....an exhilarating experience it must be said. Clouds racing across the sky.....grey rain falling in mists dotted around the landscape....just great!!
The shot was taken while leaning the camera on a gatepost, just before finally leaving the public footpath that leads you to the top.

An icicle hangs from a lantern on my gate post as the snow starts to melt. It has been a long, cold Wyoming winter. Even with that beauty abounds. Nature’s winter sculptures are everywhere.

Few cities in the world capture the imagination as much as Bangkok. Ornate palaces that host royal processions, Buddhist temples that witness monks chanting ancient temples, canals that lead to a maze of water markets, night bazaars that never sleep - have long proved a powerful magnet for travelers. The Marble Temple, also called Wat Benchamabophit, is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand. Built of white marble, it is one of the most modern temples in Bangkok. It is also known as the Marble Temple because of the large amount of white marble used in its construction. The temple was built in the late 19th century and is a good example of later Thai architecture. The temple is also unique in that it is a mixture of Thai and European styles. It also contains many beautiful statues of Buddhist gods and saints. The Marble Temple is one of the few temples in Bangkok that is not run by the government. It is managed by a group of monks who live and work there. The temple also has a beautiful garden with many exotic plants and trees. There is also a beautiful large gong in the temple where visitors can strike for good luck. Visitors often come to the temple to meditate or offer prayers. There is also a small museum in the temple where visitors can learn about the history and cultural values of the temple.
The Marble Temple in Bangkok contains several statues of Buddhas, including a beautiful large statue of Luangpho To, the main Buddha in the temple. Luangpho To is a statue of Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism. The statue is made of white marble and is about 4 meters high. The statue is covered with gold leaf and has a serene appearance. The Buddha's hands are in the "abhaya mudra" position, symbolizing protection and reassurance. The images of Buddhas in the temple are often important objects of worship for the Buddhist community. Visitors often come to the temple to pray for good luck, health and prosperity and to meditate in the presence of the Buddha. The Marble Temple has a unique design, with a mix of traditional Thai architecture and European influences. The roof is decorated with golden ornaments and has an array of small domes, which give the temple a beautiful symmetry. The entrance to the temple is dominated by a beautiful marble staircase that leads to the main entrance. At the front of the temple is a large marble Sala that serves as a reception area for visitors. A Sala is a type of roof commonly used in temples and other religious buildings in Thailand. It is an open space with a roof and side walls and is often used as a place to meditate, pray or receive visitors. The Sala is decorated with beautiful sculptures and decorations, including two large Singha Images. The two temple guardians, known throughout Thailand as mythical creatures, are depicted as half man and half lion. Some sit atop gateposts, while many others guard the temple entrances.
