Here in Japan, garbage is a complex process. First you have to sort out the recyclables (into glass, plastic, tin cans, steel cans, and food trays) and the special items (batteries, light bulbs, hairspray cans, and the like). Then twice a week you carry your garbage to the trash collection point. Some folks have different bags for burnable and non-burnable trash. I read about one city that has over 20 different categories for trash.
While walking around in New York I saw these scratches on a garbage bin which reminded me of one of those abstract artworks at the Yale Art Gallery ;-) Hope you like it!

In a little alcove off the cabana is this disgusting little mini garbage dump. I'm not sure why this stuff is here, there is a dumpster about 20 yards away.

Did you know that there is this huge garbage patch in the pacific ocean the size of the USA? Damn, I sure didn't! But when I found out I knew I wanted to use it for something...
So then this school assignment came up, about making some sort of documentary with photographs combined with sound. With a simpel photo-slide-show program we had to create something. Although most of my classmates made something more documentary-like I chose this route.
It's just amazing how we think we've made the world so much better and all... Though we don't see the shit we make... Well, I'm not any better I guess.
