This is a monochrome development of a severe crop (8:5 - 6000 x 3750px) of this infrared panorama:

Sometimes, as opposed to develop straight for b&w, I do several false-color developments first and then convert these in different ways which gives me a lot of leverage regarding contrast and how the highlights, midtones and shadows turn out and relate to each other. But it's more effort though..

Longing for some solitude, absence of noise, less or no people? Chances are you gonna find it here somewhere. Wanna chat with the neighbours nonetheless? Grab you hiking boots..!

One can see the spot where I produced the panorama while hiking up, it's about behind the hardwood tree left of the little house. You can check it out here:

And here on the way back down again, a quick single row pano:

After I was done capturing the panorama I decided to turn around and walk back cause it was getting late and the weather unfolded in ways I was not too excited about! Nice to look at though. 📷

I resisted the temptation to go with the development that displayed the IR characteristics the strongest here. The meadow came out really bright even though it was all in the shadow, but it was kind of competing with the sky and everthing became a hyper-contrast-y mess.

So I hope the darker smoother landscape is less distracting and will provide the stage for the clouds and a balance overall.

The original consists of 36 individual photos, a trimmed mercator projection produced 20159 x 12577px ~253,5MP, which I then cropped to 8:5 aspect ratio and 9212 x 5758px = 53MP.

According to Mr. Julian ("J. M.") Brown, who stopped by while I was taking this photo, all the stray cats in town show up in this yard everyday for a feeding from a local woman. Which explained why this cat looked at me with what looked like a note of disappointment when I came bearing no food. He was joined by several others a few minutes later, squeezing one by one beneath the gate to the left. They did not appear underfed...

Mr. Brown told me this was the Guthrie house, and that it had recently been restored. In the process it was turned 90 degrees so the porches on the right would face the Straits, and Browns and Harkers Islands beyond them.

This historic building was converted into a theater between ‘95-2014 and currently houses Connections Public Charter School.

Okay, one last from that scouting mission in April. I like the flare..

Haven't got my photo-mojo back exactly, but thinking about 'less is more' kinda stuff lately. 😕

Great to have lots of options with IR (wavelengths..), but wanting / attempting to do it all or as much as possible is ..a buzz kill. One filter, one lens, one style and making my peace with it for one day might be a wise thing to try. 🤔 And sitting around for a bit, at a nice place with a view and giving the camera a rest is not a crime also, ..maybe.

This may well be my last image posted to Flickr, as they forced their terrible new photo page on me today. If I don't find scripts or hacks to modify it back to what it used to be, I will be looking elsewhere.

Fortunately I was able to escape. I think it was sleeping.

So I have this sitting on my computer for a little while, now picking it up again, the second time, I'm kind of surprised that I was not more enthusiatic about it when I developed it, cause this turned out quite nice, I think. Nice and weird. 😁

This is right about the tree line in terms of altitude, so one can tell that only the hardiest are left and even they begin to thin out. The weather was about to change, it was pretty hazy and overcast yet the near infrared spectrum delivered once again, displaying some unexpected details. 😯

It's also a rarely applicable development route, so of course I went for it.

Technically it's a 360° mercator projection, made of 42 individual photos, which I vertically cropped to 27223 x 11420px, ~310,9MP.

This is a more "candy-like" development of a moderate crop (8:5 ratio, 10000 x 6250px) of this infrared panorama:

www.flickr.com/photos/197010762@N05/52540030590/in/dateta...

This only occasionally turns out well, but when it does I like it a lot.

Btw. this pano (and most others with the same layout I used this lens for) was done with a "hybrid focus". So it consists of 3 rows/lines, bottom middle and top, spanning 360° or less each. Top and middle line have infinity focus (I figured out via tests), the bottom one less since the ground is obviously closer (also determined via tests and then remembered).

I wrote more about the dreaded IR hotspot and sharpness of this lens here:

From yet another scouting mission, end of April, the leaves of the trees were just sprouting. This light bright green is just wonderful, the forest is interspersed with beeches here. 😍

And, in the beginning, I found another abandoned house in the middle of nowhere (this is just a logging track I'm on right there), snooping around, there were beer bottles from like 30 years ago on a table inside, and a balcony falling off, literally, on the other side, and a nice well too.

Not doing much photography at all at the moment, however, the RG 1000 still hasn't left my IR camera. Still surprised how much I enjoy it. In daylight, with ISO 800 and the rather decent VC on the Tamron, it's quite handhold-able.

The imperfection and uniqueness of these 'scouting-single-shots' was / is really refreshing, but I'm preparing myself for some more panoramic action again. Did some tests with the RG 1000 in regard to that, which proved to be quite valuable, and yet another new member of the heliopan filter family (I also acquired last fall, but haven't introduced so far), maybe I get my mojo going again when the weather gets better.

I don't wanna leave the impression that it is about gear though; 😕 more like the possibility of new discoveries I feel. Or maybe I miss carrying a tripod on my shoulder for days on end, who knows..? 😜

Have a nice day, my fellow photo peeps.. 🍄 😎

This was the very first day the sun came out after I got the filter in December (with just snow and fog), so of course I had to go on a stroll. 🌞

Nothing special though.. , and again, subtle sepia not pure b&w (which I kind of miss or forget at times when view individually; next to actual black & white photos it's very obvious). 😎
