This photo was from last year, when Clear Lake Goddess gifted me often with morning skies filled with spectacular and explosive cloud formations, so much that I was hoping to get a break so that I could sleep in.
This year, she seems to be teaching me a lesson by putting out hazy colorless sunrises every morning!
Maybe the spell will be broken tomorrow, or maybe not!

As the first rays of sunshine hit the sheer cliff edge behind, light bounced upwards and illuminated the underneath of Mesa Arch with a stunning red glow!
On this cloudless morning, we got to Mesa Arch about half an hour before sunrise.
Being a Sunday, I knew there would be a big crowd and I did not count on getting a spot in front of the arch.
Perhaps being a Sunday worked to my advantage, for there were only two photogs with tripods taking up the center stage (the rest probably knew better to avoid the weekend chaos!), most others (at least 100 if not more, scattered around) were casual visitors just there to capture the sunrise with cell phones. Many of them climbed up the rocks to the left of the arch or the higher ground on the right side behind the arch, obviously they didn't understand what made this a unique sunrise shooting location!
There were even TWO open spots in front of the arch: the 1st and the 3rd on the right side (facing the arch)!
I took the 3rd spot (from the right) and I held my ground, though I really wished I could take a photo of that nearby dome shaped rock which was bathing in the glowy pre-dawn light!
I did not bring a tripod because I needed the freedom to move around.
I walked away with 4 good photos, that's way more than I have ever expected!

Road F 616 connects Paphos with the Troodos Mountains through several towns and villages.
The rock of Chasampoulion, or “Kourtelorotsos,” is located on Road F 616 (Between Mamonia and Kedares) and is one of the many natural attractions in the Paphos region
I was standing on a rock at about ~12,300 ft (3,750 m) above sea-level, overlooking Trail Ridge Road (*) and some name-unknown (to me) mountain range.
Of course, this being Colorado, I reached this altitude by simply climbing up a ~20-ft high rock.
To reach there, we hiked the Tundra Communities Trail.
As the name suggested, the trail spanned across an open tundra.
It was a fairly steep grade hike with a good portion covered in slushy melting snow, and we definitely felt the effects of altitude at this lofty elevation. With roughly 35% less oxygen than at sea level, our breaths were soon taken away. We had to trek slowly, stopping periodically to catch our breath.
The sun was strong and the snow was bright, it was so blinding that I had a hard time keeping my eyes open. No sunglasses on me because... oh let's just say I was told they were not in the precise location where I thought they were (but they were!). 😖
*Trail Ridge Road is a scenic byway that traverses Rocky Mountain National Park from east to west with numerous scenic pullover stops.

We met a couple from Calgary while hiking on Valley of the Five Lakes Trail in Jasper National Park, one thing after another I showed them the photo which I took of Bow Lake.
The wife liked it very much and timidly asked if I minded giving her a copy so that she could print and hang it on the wall.
My reply: "Are you kidding me? The honor would be mine!"
Last month, as promised I emailed them the Bow Lake image plus this one of their hometown (just because it's their hometown and the sky was spectacular that night; they had never seen this photo). I wanted to give them a chance to view the Bow Lake image on a good size monitor (rather than my iPhone screen), also a way to back out should they find the image not worth printing.
I didn't hear back from them for weeks and so I thought they had indeed changed their mind; honestly, no hurt feelings here.
They finally got back to me last night and to my surprise, they asked for both images in full size.
Wow, what an honor, seriously!
Now I'm a bit nervous - I hope the printed images will look as good in ink!
(Oh I did remove my initials on the full size images.)
