The sun is shining on this wonderful thursday afternoon. I ate a few oranges while I was listening to the radio. And I got totally addicted to the Sound Of Freedom by Bob Sinclair. That song is sooo damn amazing. Yeeeehaaaaaaaawww! :)

yesterday i visited whitechapel market, east london, for fruit and vegetables. a busy, busy trader on the fruit stall! i bought some fruit to make jams/sauces

3 large punnets raspberries @ £1 a punnet (made 4 jars of raspberry jam/sauce)

2 large punnets strawberries @ £1 a punnet (made 2 jars of strawberry jam/sauce)

6 persimmons @ 3 for £1 (made 1 jar of persimmon jam/sauce)

the persimmon jam/sauce is an experiment. i'm a newby to persimmons but thought i'd have a go at making persimmon jam/sauce as an introduction to this fruit after viewing bo thenook's photo of freeze dried persimmons. they looked dellcious flic.kr/p/2rKyK3x

persimmon jam recipe itsnotcomplicatedrecipes.com/persimmon-jam/ i should have read this recipe before i made the jam :)

i should have peeled the fruit and added water

i did add the lemon juice but more liquid was needed

once blended the mixture was very thick

never mind, the jam/sauce i've made is fine, but would have been so much better if i'd followed the recipe ... next time

update 12th december 2025

it's close to christmas so i've added sugar not chia seeds to these jams/sauces. i'll return to being calorie careful after the festivities :)

Never knew Breakfast could also be a photo opportunity.

Been lazing around lately and the bad news is, I'll be going to the Army next Thursday, which means lesser photo updates! :(

This is my piece for the Phat Quarter's FFFoF Movies swap. My swappee, Robyn Enz, said she liked cheesy sci-fi movies so I hoped that the movie Serenity fit the bill. I decided that I wanted to embroider a still from the Fruity Oaty Bar commercial that triggers the girl, River, into a bar-destroying frenzy. Cute AND lethal! what a great combination! Here's a link to see the commercial from the movie: www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7idn3PcKBM

Once I found which still I wanted to embroider, I had to figure out how to get my pattern on the cloth. I was going to crayon tint the piece but still didn't trust my tracing skills on this complicated pattern. I ended up ironing the cotton to a piece of freezer paper, cutting it the size of a standard letter page, and then running it through my color printer. I then embroidered over all the outlines, filled in the hair and shirt and eyes and... yeah. I think it turned out pretty darned cute. I'm actually sad to be sending it away, but hopes that it finds a great home with Robyn!
