Phil made these for his Dessert Club from a Marth Stewart recipe card. The cake was a little dense but had good flavor. The frosting was cream cheese with coconut extract.

Have Faith, don't let your problems weigh you down.
Have you ever visited the place where the snow is kept, or seen where the hail is stored up, which I keep for the times of stress, or days or battle and war? From which direction does the lightning fork when it scatters sparks over the earth? Who carves a channel for the downpour, and hacks a way for the rolling thunder, so that rain may fall on lands where no one lives, and the deserts void of human dwelling, giving drink to the lonely wastes and making grass spring where everything was dry? Has the rain a father? Who begets the dewdrops? What womb brings forth the ice, and gives birth to the frost of heaven, when the waters grow hard as stone and the surface of the deep congeals? Job 38:22-30
Yesterday I received an award on my blog for "good blog & personality". It made me really happy and I thought I'd celebrate that with some cupcakes! :)

So I'm 37 now. Last year was probably the closest I've come to dying, so I'm feeling my mortality more than normal of late. As a heart attack survivor who still leads a super-high-stress lifestyle, really, what are the chances I'm going to make it to 72? Which means my life is probably more than half over. And what do I have to show for it? Besides a huge collection of beautiful artistic photos that I've taken, most of which no one has ever seen, and a network of friends and loved ones who all care about me and will be despondent when I die? Okay, I guess that's not actually that bad. Still, though, let's get on that install-my-mind-in-a-robot-body plan, 'cause I'm clearly past my expiration date. Just the one that grocery stores put on so they can sell products faster, not the one that actually indicates I need to be thrown out, but still.
I took the day off and celebrated my birthday with a trip to the DMV. Original plan was DMV, then photoshoot with Anna, but Anna needed to hit the DMV too, so we ended up going together, and it took too long, and so she had to leave for *her* birthday celebrations.
I did get to do a photoshoot with Brittani, though, so that was cool.
After that shoot, Bridget and I went and played Superfight with Jessica and Sutter and made/ate some birthday cake. Superfight is my new favorite game, and I want people to come play it with me.
According to Jessica, this was the best frosting she's ever made.
The centers are filled with french vanilla pudding and the frosting has chunks of chocolate in it. Mmmmm.

Lemon curd, store-bought. Meringue frosting, leftover from Martha Stewart's lemon meringue cupcakes.
Very tasty for afternoon tea! :)
Whew. Lots of stuff, most of which I usually keep on hand, except the shortening and the caster sugar.
People, there is NEVER ENOUGH.

Based on THIS recipe from the Cupcake Bakeshop. Although, I didn't use raspberries since they are so expensive in the winter, and I didn't dye the frosting. Normally I would go for the wild meringue spikes, but today I felt like smooth curlies instead.
