The Second Schleswig War was the second military conflict over the Schleswig-Holstein Question of the nineteenth century. The war began on 1 February 1864, when Prussian forces crossed the border into Schleswig. Denmark fought the Kingdom of Prussia and the Austrian Empire. It was fought for control of the duchies of Holstein and Lauenburg.

Or is it the back row set? Either way, the back door of the end Superliner sleeper on the Cal Zephyr is one of the best places to see the country zoom past you in reverse. Our westward caravan passes this BNSF oil train hanging out on the center track between the Naperville and Route 59 stations on a memorable late September day in 2014. One block down on our track, a Metra commuter train bound for Aurora tags along behind.

Paint damage. Headlights look loads better after cleaning them. Being a 16 yr old, I feel very fortunate to have a car this awesome. No, i'm not spoiled, I paid for the car, the (premium) gas, insurance, and any work that goes into this car by myself.

The red-fronted coot (Fulica rufifrons) is a species of bird in the family Rallidae. At 36–43 cm (14–17 in), it is a mid-sized species of coot. It is found in Argentina, southern Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, southern Peru and Uruguay. There are also records from Bolivia and the Falkland Islands. Its natural habitat is swamps and well-vegetated lakes and ponds.

Snow Bunting Battle. These two got into a tussle in front of the corn field over a bit of food.

Speedway is full of unique front porches, large and small. They are beautiful in their simplicity and sometimes their ornateness. I saw this on my daily walk.

Oh the light. Sometimes it whispers, sometimes it screams my name.

It's 30 years ago. Wow! How time flies! I lived in an apartment two blocks above the Peekskill, NY train station with a lovely view of both sides of the Hudson River. On many evenings I'd walk down the spiral Raqua street to the railroad and hike north to Bear Mountain Bridge and photograph everything along the way while keeping a close eye to the ground for northern copperheads. This spot at Ros Hook was always a stop to get one of the several northbound rush trains and it was no different on this day. An all to regular pair of FL-9's lead new "Bomb" cars racing in notch 8 for Pougkeepsie. So regular, I've probably passed on 100s of photo possibilities because, they all looked the same.

an all too brief weekend with the love of my life and it's back to blackpool with jump!

Most farmers in Melrakkaslétta, NE-Iceland, put up flags to let the eider know where it is safe to lay nests, some put up scarecrows to fend off birds so the eider can lay it's eggs in peace.

This farmer had put up a chair, a few feet away was a "dead" scarecrow, staring with no eyes up at the sky.

At least that lonely, and now late, scarecrow got front row seats to the north Atlantic ocean.

-and if it had squinted (if it had eyes...) then it might see the coast of the arctic.

Perhaps skua and other predatory birds hate the color of lime green?

I used this shot for a "coming soon" announcement on my web page:

I am working on the page, always changing my mind though.....which makes it bloody difficult to finalise.
