If you look close you can see four Jays in the photo enjoying breakfast.

Photographed at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, Yakima County, Washington. Notice the size difference in the White-fronted Goods compared to the Canada Geese. I believe that there were at least 3 races/subspecies of Canada Gees among the 220 plus that were present. We get one or two White-fronted Geese in the area every fall/winter. IMG_3934

Life on the front porch.

Blue-fronted redstart (Phoenicurus frontalis)

This couple dangled their legs out into nothing and ate lunch in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Terrific views, but the service is terrible..... :-)

Summit Lake has a loop trail all the way around, I suggest going counter clockwise for the views will be in front and the steepest climb is that ridge to the right. That's Bearhead Peak and in the back that's umm Mount Rainier.... :-) It's been weeks since I've posted a MR shot, thought I'd slip one in here. :-)

Sometimes change is a good thing. Years ago the woods across from my home was clear cut to build homes. I was really upset about that. But over the years I have apprecaited that I can now see amazing sunsets from my front yard that I couldn't see when the woods was blocking my view.

Cyanotrichite, front (832)

21.5x16.5x15cm

Qinglong Mine, Qinglong, Qianxi'nan Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou, Southwest Region, China.

Cyanotrichite is a secondary mineral of the oxidation zone of copper deposits. Its genesis seems facilitated by an acid environment and a clayey surrounding. It owes its name to the Greek kuanos (blue) and thrix (hair) in connection with its color and its habitus in tufts of acicular crystals. It comes in orthorhombic fibers assembled in radiate rosettes, urchins with velvety aspect and silky luster. Its sky blue to azure blue color and its pale blue streak are characteristic as well as its association with other arsenates and sulphates of copper (chalcophyllite, spangolite, brochandite, adamite, etc...). It is a mineral little known to collectors who has no particular use.

Image Notes: To get an idea of how large the storm is, consider that this image is a five-frame pano. Each frame was shot vertically with the Samyang 14 mm, itself an incredibly wide lens. I processed each frame in DXO, corrected distortion/vignetting with PTLens (DXO lacks a profile for the Samy) and merged the frames in Photoshop to construct the pano.

Surely one bird that I was super excited when I saw the result. its not that I have not seen in the past or made images in the past but its the satisfaction of a frame that I felt is worthy to have !!!

Velvet Fronted Nuthatch (Sitta frontalis)

I’m sure I’ve told you before that I get very embarrassed about taking photos int he front garden. However, having taken the dog for a walk this morning I just couldn’t resist, besides Sunday mornings, there’s not too many people up and about.

I had realised last year that I’m a bit shy on the old photography front so had bought more bulbs and planted them in the seclusion of our back garden. They’re coming up, but slightly behind the ones in the front.

Thanks for stopping

Hope everyone is enjoying the Holidays

When you live in a city you tend to miss out on sunsets and sunrises, there are always buildings in the way . Our house faces West so the sun sets behind the houses on the other side of the road. However about a week ago there was clearly a wonderful sunset and while the sun was out of our sight the sky did turn a wonderful colour . This was taken from our front door looking over the rooftops

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.

I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO

Caught a lot of great lightning shots last night, and didn't even have to leave my front porch! Tracked these storms on radar, across Lake Erie, and as soon as they hit the southern shore, they exploded into high top hail droppers! Even saw a couple golf balls bounce across my yard! What a great time!

294) Golden Fronted Leafbird

Golden-Fronted Leafbird, Chloropsis aurifrons,

This is a common resident breeder in India, Sri Lanka, and northern parts of Southeast Asia. This shot was taken in near southern part of Peninsular Malaysia, which make me wonder whether this is escapee or simply a family of bird that venture south too far out of ordinary route. This is among first record of this species in the area.

Golden-fronted Woodpeckers were common in Southern Texas. Many were on telephone poles and wires. They weren’t as common as the other bird at the blinds, be we saw them regularly. This one is a male, who sports the more vibrant yellow and red crown shown. The females a matching pale yellow patch and lacks the red cap. (Melanerpes auriferous) (Sony a1ii, 200-600 lens @ 415mm, 1/5000 second, f/6.3, ISO 3200). (Photo note: Here in Florida, I generally shoot larger birds and am not normally as close as when shooting from a blind. The closer you are to the subject, and the faster the wings move, the more shutter speed you need to render a sharp image. Also, depth of field becomes a compromise to consider as the closer the subject, the less the depth of field.)
