A clump of banksias is in full flower in my front yard with 21 flower heads - a striking combination of colours and textures. The flower heads are about 50-60mm in diameter. Not quite the composition I was after, but I was perched somewhat awkwardly on a wet 40 degree slope. Shot close to MFD, helped greatly by the flip-out screen. Uncropped and no PP apart from resizing.
A black skimmer viewed from the front while a laughing gull and royal tern watch from behind. There were 2 skimmers, 7 terns, and about 20 laughing gulls all hanging out together at Pensacola Beach.

Migrants from their tundra breeding grounds stop over in Missouri River refuge ahead of a winter storm. A Bald Eagle roused the geese with a lazy flyover.
If Lina wanted to go out for a comfort break, we had to let her out the front door, as it was more secure than the 'garden' at the back. It was pretty with the plants here, although rather overlooked by the neighbouring houses and people walking down the street to the shops!!

Like 68007, 66308 has been stuck on the same working for weeks now. In this case that's a bit of a shame, as it has a rather dirty front end, making it look as though the sun isn't even on the front! Let's just pretend it's not...
Running 30 minutes late, 66308 'Signalman Willie Taylor' works 4S57 Hams Hall - Mossend north through the Lune Gorge, slowing for the Tebay loop stop.

One final shot of this beautiful old fixer upper. That front fender itself is a work of art; I have shot hundreds of photos of it.
The fisheye lens provides a lot of distortion, of course, but take my word for it that the old beast is leaning perilously to the right. I used to get the tripod and macro lens in close on that side, but these days it feels unsafe. I know the steel is thick, the car is heavy, and it will probably continue to lean, but I don't want to be under it if it releases and suddenly topples.
Back to critters, landscapes, and macro beginning tomorrow!
Photographed in a place where nothing happens - where most folks can't imagine living, but trust me, life far from traffic jams and shopping malls has its charms - ie. rural Saskatchewan (Canada). The Second Schleswig War was the second military conflict over the Schleswig-Holstein Question of the nineteenth century. The war began on 1 February 1864, when Prussian forces crossed the border into Schleswig. Denmark fought the Kingdom of Prussia and the Austrian Empire. It was fought for control of the duchies of Holstein and Lauenburg.
