An old frog that hangs out under the little foot bridge next to Beckman Mill.

Another of my critters here around the house.

Mindo Rainfrog, Pristimantis mindo - a newly described species (2013) endemic to subtropical northwestern Ecuador. This image was recorded in 2007.

While reading the recently published description of this beautiful large rain frog from Mindo I thought, "I've seen that animal somewhere before". Sure enough, I had; at 0230 on a rainy night in October of 2007. The frog had been perched on a philodendron growing quite high above the ground on a mossy tree trunk - high enough that I had to stand tip-toe to pull the leaf down with my snake tongs. I photographed it on vegetation at the base of its tree and then set it at liberty, little knowing that I'd been shooting an undescribed species.

Brown Tree Frog (Litoria verreauxii) from Croajingolong National Park in Australia

At the winery we heard a very loud frog ribbit from the lower patio level. My curiosity started going overdrive and I had to find out if the noise came out from loudspeakers or a bullfrog the size of a football.

I wandered down to look and found this. I'm not totally sure if this was the frog that made the loud noise, but at least the frog is cute.
