Fixed up an old cold frame that was in this gaff when I moved in. Probably hadn't been used for many years as there was a tree growing through it, and plastic pots biodegrading in it!!
Hoping it will get through the next month and grow some lettuce perhaps. Will probably replace the blue peter job on the panels with perspex panels in the Spring.
Used black bin liner for a lining to keep insects out, and maybe it'll help absord heat. Read some that polysterene will gradually release heat over night too. Hoping the foil on the back will reflect more of the light back onto the plants. We'll see. The lot might disintegrate in next monsoon....
Masking tape is the friend of this project!!
For this shot I used a Chinon 55mm f 1.4 multicoated Made in Japan (Passed Quality Check in 1962)This Lense is a Depth-of-Field-Monster and my absolute favorite.
The space below the men's (wearing red checkered shirt) arm creates a frame for this picture. I used a larger aperture to create a shallow depth of field in order to focus on the subject. I thought this was quite unique for a framing shot and honestly, it was quite difficult to produce this candid shot.
If you frame it it's art...that's what the ad said...I agree
My roses do look more impressive framed.
A couple of weeks ago I received an invitation from the Toronto Beaches Jazz Fest to submit some of my past photos from their event to be considered for a retrospective photography display that will be part of this year's festival. All 3 of my photos were accepted. In order to have your photos displayed you must get them framed and deliver them in person to the event organizer. So as you can see they are now framed and I will be going for a road trip later today to deliver them. I'm not sure how much of an honour this is as its costing me money to do this instead of getting paid for it! Hopefully I can include my business card with the photos and maybe sell them or get some other work out of it...

Using gesso and paints i painted some old wallpaper scraps i had and when it was dry i covered the old frame with it.
With the wallpaper that was left i made some beads and then threaded them with pearls to make the trim at the top.
So now i am going to find a nice picture to put in it.

This is an old Bertin frame, and it has seen use. As you can tell by the pictures the bottom of the top tube has the paint worn off and there is a good amount of fading on the front portion of the frame.
The tubing is Durifort, the dropouts are not labeled. The chrome is in good general shape; there is an inchs worth of chip on the fork and some on the left-hand chain stay. There is a pulley cable-guide on the right hand side of the bb. The only braze-ons include two top tube cable stops and two pump holders, also on the top tube.
Frame number is 46472 stamped onto the left rear drop. Frame size is 58cm c-t as stamped on the drop as well. It comes with headset (rough) but no bb.

Today, I framed my first photos. I have never printed and framed pictures that I have shot. Well today is a first!!
2011 and I did something I have never done. Its going to be a good year... B/W in white frame,white mat. I might need to redo their faces to make them more the same size? My Grandsons..

Sanibel lighthouse framed by some sea grapes.
This is the B&W variation.
The lighthouse itself is not all that interesting, though the geometry created by it's open steel frame is kinda cool. The historical marker on the site reads:
"Sanibel Lighthouse
The first permanent English-speaking settlers on Sanibel Island arrived from New York in 1833 as part of a colony planned by land investors. Although that settlement was short lived, the initial colonists petitioned the U.S. government for the construction of a lighthouse on the island. No action was taken on that proposal at the time. By the late 1870's, sea-going commerce in the area had increased in volume. The U.S. Lighthouse Bureau took the initiative in requesting the funds for a lighthouse for Sanibel Island, and in 1884, construction of the tower began. The station was lighted for the first time in August, 1884. The significance of the Sanibel Lighthouse lies in the regular and reliable service it has provided travelers along Florida's West Coast. Since 1930, the U.S. Coast Guard property at the lighthouse has been a wildlife refuge."
I'd include a picture of the sign, but it's not that good of picture and it's tough to find a text version of the 1974 marker on the net anyways, so I transcribed it.
These are some pictures that I took and framed myself. This was my first time doing something like this.
The southern end of the railway bridge over the Murrumbidgee river, Gundagai. The rails stop at the grass.

This week, create images that contain a natural frame that highlights the subject of the photograph.
WIT: I was taking pictures of my friends' band. We found an old broke down train and they climbed abroad. I used the train to frame the duet. I didn't crop the photo but did turn it black and white in pp and lightened it up a little bit.
