This was taken at Briton Ferry - an old industrial area which nature is slowly reclaiming. It is such a great place to explore and find beauty amongst the industrial past. This is the second in a set of images of framed sun taken there

A different version of Hallin Fell, this time a few steps further away but this time using an old fence and rock to frame the shot nicely. I think I might actually like this version even more.

The 66 lever mechanical frame on the operating floor of Bognor Regis Signal Box, 26th March 2008. The frame dates from 1938 and has about 50% of the levers still in use. The spare levers are painted white, those controlling signals are red, points are black, facing point locks are blue and electrical releases are blue/brown. Shortened levers indicate the lever controls an electrical function i.e. a colour light signal and is not connected to a mechanical function and therefore does not need a lot of effort to pull it. Of note is the relatively low number of shortened levers indicating that the layout at Bognor Regis is still predominately mechanically signalled.
On a couple of occasions in the 1970’s I had the unenviable task of shortening a signal lever, no power tools in them days, just brute force and a hacksaw. Trust me it is one hell of a difficult task due the hard metal of the lever and the awkward angle you are sawing at

As you walk along the dyke trail at the Cowichan Bay estuary, across the channel is an old dyke that once protected a farm field. The field is reverting, and now fills with water at high tides, and the dyke has grown over with broom, willows and other bushes. Here and there gaps in the bushes let you catch glimpses of the field beyond, and in a few spots you can see old fence posts that once ringed the field. It was a real treat to find this Short-eared Owl sitting on one of these fenceposts enjoying the warm morning sunshine. The light was beautiful, the owl was perfectly framed by the broom bushes, and when it swung its head backwards and gave me a glance I knew I had my shot.
