Runo is a geographical fraction of the municipality of Dumenza , in the Province of Varese , located north-west of the town centre, along the road to Due Cossani.

Runo was an ancient municipality in the Milanese area .

Registered in the documents of 1751 as a village of 230 inhabitants, following the reforms of Empress Maria Teresa it incorporated the hamlet of Stivigliano . In 1786 Runo with Stivigliano became part of the ephemeral Province of Varese for a five-year period , and then continuously changed the administrative references in 1791 , 1798 and 1799 .

At the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1805 it had 285 inhabitants. In 1809 the municipality was suppressed following a royal decree by Napoleon who annexed it to Dumenza for the first time , but the municipality of Runo was however restored with the return of the Austrians . In 1853 it was populated by 302 souls, rising to 315 in 1871 , while in 1921 384 residents were registered. It was the fascist regime that decided in 1928 to suppress the municipality, uniting it with Dumenza , taking up the ancient Napoleonic model.

The church of San Giorgio

The bell tower of the church of San Giorgio seems to have had a military role in the period preceding the year one thousand , during the various barbarian invasions : in fact, the road that led from Varese to Luino and then to Dumenza was the only one that accessed Bellinzona , as the long lake does not exist. It was probably part of a system of towers along these valleys, of which Runo's is the only one surviving.

Culture

The famous painter Bernardino Luini , a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci , was born in Runo : the authentic surname "degli Scappi" was supplanted. Born a few years later, a relative of his, Bartolomeo Scappi in Rome in the first half of the sixteenth century became a distinguished chef in the service of three popes.

Runo is the place of origin of the various branches of the Trezzini family who swarmed towards the final Swiss towns of Sessa , Lanera, and Astano where the famous architect and urban planner Domenico Trezzini was born , commissioned by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703 to build his new capital Russian on the banks of the Neva , St. Petersburg .

Observing a gorgeous sunset sky this evening over the city. Loving the colors of the sky here. Even subtle crepuscular rays were seen. Pics taken from around San Jose, CA. It sure has been interesting the last 24-48 hours for the Bay Area... (Thursday around late sunset, October 10, 2019)

*Weather scenario/fire conditions:

Critical fire weather conditions were expected in parts of California thru Thursday & this latest threat was occurring during the peak time of concern for wildfires. Windy conditions & low humidity were raising the danger levels. If a fire starts, it could grow rapidly. Red flag warnings were posted by the National Weather Service for portions of the region. Critical fire weather conditions were present for much of NorCal & the Bay Area thru Thursday. PG&E also had shut down their power to a good fraction of the Bay Area to prevent their equipment from starting fires as well… An area of high pressure building into the Great Basin behind the powerful snowstorm in the northern Rockies & northern Plains had helped to set up an offshore wind event thru Friday. Wind gusts over 60 mph were possible in the mountain passes around the Bay Area (especially for the North & East Bay) & over 45 mph in coastal & valley areas. The NWS noted that the 3 ingredients needed for an increase in wildfires– strong winds, dry vegetation & low humidity–were in place for the entire area. Unlike most locations in the Lower 48, California has pronounced wet & dry seasons. The last weeks of the dry season happen in the fall. In September & October, we begin seeing high pressures form over the Great Basin & this creates dry, warm offshore winds. What makes them dangerous in the fall is that they occur when soil moisture is at its driest…

Biegno is a fraction of the Italian municipality of Maccagno con Pino and Veddasca , and a border town with Switzerland since 1516 .

History

Biegno is a small town of ancient origin, belonging to the Pieve di Val Travaglia .

Registered in 1751 as a village of 353 inhabitants, in 1805 it reached 400 units. In the Napoleonic era , in 1809 , the neighboring Municipality of Lozzo was added to the Municipality of Biegno , which recovered its autonomy in 1816 , following the establishment of the Lombard-Veneto Kingdom .

At the unification of Italy , in 1861 , Biegno had 491 inhabitants, which stabilized for the rest of the century. Populated by 434 people in 1921 , the municipality was abolished in 1928 , and merged with the municipalities of Armio , Cadero con Graglio and Lozzo, forming the new municipality of Veddasca .

In 2014 it followed the fate of the entire municipality of Veddasca and merged into the new municipality of Maccagno con Pino and Veddasca.

Maccagno con Pino and Veddasca ( Maccàgn cun Pin e Vedàsca in Varese dialect ) is an Italian municipality of 2,450 inhabitants in the province of Varese in Lombardy .

It was established on 4 February 2014 as a merger of the municipalities of Maccagno , Pino sulla Sponda del Lago Maggiore and Veddasca , which took place following the outcome of a consultative referendum held in the countries involved on 1 December 2013 . The municipal headquarters was established in Maccagno.

History

The institution's founding act is constituted by regional law no. 8 of 30 January 2014, published in Supplement no. 6 of the Official Bulletin of the Lombardy Region of 3 February 2014.

In May 2014 the municipality received the zip code I-21061.

Furthermore, the three founding municipalities were themselves in two cases the result of an amalgamation process that took place in the fascist era , so much so that until 1927 the current municipal territory was divided into ten different municipalities, in existence since the Middle Ages .

The municipality is part of the Regio Insubrica working community, a cross-border cooperation body that federates some provinces of Lombardy and Piedmont and the Swiss Canton of Ticino .

Symbols

The new municipality had initially informally adopted the coat of arms and banner of Maccagno (municipal seat), and then equipped itself with its own weapon, granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 12 September 2018.

«Coat of arms of blue, on the tower of red, bricked in black, crenellated in the Ghibelline style of five pieces, open to the field, founded on the plain of green, flanked by two counter-prancing gold lions , all surmounted by three stars with eight rays of the same, placed in the band. External ornaments from the Municipality.»

The banner is a yellow cloth with a blue border.

The coat of arms brings together elements taken from the emblems of previous municipalities: the blue of the field and the red tower of Maccagno, the counter-rampant lions of Pino on the shore of Lake Maggiore and the stars of Veddasca.
