In the U.S., we enjoy two species of snapping turtle, the Alligator Snapper (Macrochelys temminckii), which is among the largest, heaviest freshwater turtles in the world, and the Common Snapper (Chelydra serpentina), which has a much broader range, can grow up to 18" long in its own right, and is photographed here. For years, it was thought that the safest way to hold a large snapper was to pick it up by its tail--safest for you, maybe. But picking up turtles in this manner is quite dangerous to the snapper, often causing serious damage to its skeletal system. The proper way to hold these turtles is chronicled here: www.chelydra.org/snapping_turtle_handling.html
This wild common snapper is likely less than one year old and was photographed in the Horseheads Marsh in Horseheads, NY.

These memories are just pieces of sky
Pieces of something much bigger than I
To anyone else just endless blue
I see time framed, an image of you
These memories hold me like the moon
Holds the sea like the sky holds the sun
The sea holds my tears and carries me
When my heart is too heavy for one
when it's over, it's over
I best get busy living
Been a long time gone
a dress made of air and webs and you
The way dreams evaporate as they come true
To anyone else just endless blue
An invisible kite string connects me to you
I knew that it's selfish to think you'd come here
There's so many people that must need you near
There's so many people that need to know
That you're still with them even when you go
That you're still with them even when they don't know
when it's over, it's over
I best get busy living
You'll be a long time gone
and how do you know how much you'll be missed
Does it add up to some names on a list
So you know we're just pieces of sky
Pieces of sky that keep drifting by

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update and let y’all know that Georgia is making excellent progress with here rehab! The therapists have been impressed with the way she has bounced back from the deficits that she suffered from the stroke and the seizures! The therapists did evaluations on her today and will discuss her progress with the doctor tomorrow and we'll go from here!! I actually believe that she may come out stronger than she was when she went in!! There are no speech problems and here memory seems to be very sharp as well! Time will tell but I am so very proud of her and the way she is fighting back!! Gaining back as much as possible within the first month after the stroke is the key to the recovery!! The most gains will be made within 30 days!! There are more gains to be made with the first 90 days but after that period the returns diminish!! She is aware of this because of the stroke she had in 2008 when she was left with roughly a 5% deficit!! We just keep moving forward and want to thank everyone for their prayers and support!! God bless each and every one of you and I hope y’all have a great rest of the week!!
I might also add that although there was considerable flooding in the Houston area that our neighborhood was spared of the high waters!

These Big Horn Sheep were located in a field of high grass making it very hard to get decent shots of them. This one finally stood up and they then gave me a somewhat decent shot though it is hard to make it beautiful with all the dry grasses.

THANKS! (thanks for all the kind wishes regarding my knee surgery. I'm doing great and am already putting weight on it)

A log lies in the way just ahead for me to not trip and fall over. It is a cluttered path that quickly loses clarity and goes who knows where.
The biggest obstacles are yet unseen. But oh how wondrous the hike, with colors to behold and textures to grasp.

After several attempts, I was able to get the wing action and the details I wanted. This was taken with a Nikon D7000 coupled with a Nikkor 70-300mm VR lens.

Thanks for stopping by my photostream today - much appreciated.
Had a little jump forward in time tonight. Got the dress at the weekend along with another one that sadly is too small so that dress might become a skirt .

Just like the view.. I see a sort of progression of the rocks moving to the water. Yeah, I dream a little...
