The Kiev 60 arrived today! Mint condition and everything seems to work ok. No mirror lock up for some reason. The guy had promised it as part of the initial purchase breakdown. Hmmmm.
Apart from that, everything works just fine. The TTL prism is a tad temperamental to say the least, with the lights blinking around and refusing to both stay lit at the same time. Might be the batteries though.
I was expecting an ARSAT 80/2.8 but instead I got a VOLNA-3 MC, not a biggie as both lenses are quite similar anyway. The coating sure looks pretty...

John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
The first Target flexible format store to open in Manhattan is in the Tribeca neighborhood (TriBeCa stands for the "Triangle Below Canal" street.) The store is 45,000 sq. ft on 2 levels and is situated at the base of a rather ugly 10-story office building. It's located in the middle of a mixed residential and commercial neighborhood.
The store is awkwardly laid out due to the small space and extreme expense of operating in this, the most expensive neighborhood in Manhattan. As you enter on the small ground level, there is a large Chobani-branded cafe, some selected home and apparel products, as well as the online pickup counter. Most of the store is located in the basement, where rents are cheaper. Checkouts are in the lower level, so after you pay, you have to take the escalator up to exit the store. This may seem strange for most suburban Targets, but New Yorkers are used to this type of setup.
Within the past year, three Target flex stores (as well as one full-line location) have opened within NYC, with 4 more planned over the next 12 months. With Walmart basically locked out by the city council from building any stores within the New York City borders, Kmart and Target have the city to themselves (along with the many smaller, local discounters).

About 7 blocks away from the Chestnut West Target Flex is this second Target Flex. Both stores were opened within the last year. They fill a void left downtown since the Big Kmart (former Clover) closed in the Gallery Mall in 2014.
This 19,000 sq. ft. store is located all on one level and fits a CVS pharmacy, a Starbucks and the normal Target Flex departments--Market, Apparel, Health & Beauty, Home, Baby and Tech (electronics). Like all the Target Flex stores, "order pickup" is touted on the outside of the building.

One of the highlights for me of the trip to visit Heather in Scotland was the proximity to one of my favourite examples of bold large-scale engineerig from the height of the golden age of industry in Britain. I am refering to the Forth Railway Bridge. From the first I ever set eyes on a picture of this structure I was mesmerized by it. Something in it speaks simultaneously of such great solid strength and such great poetry of form and elegance. When Heather told me that it was possible to get near the base of the bridge I was very excited.
Since this was after all a family holiday first and foremost it was decided we would go to lunch nearby at Queensferry and I would have twenty or thirty minutes to try to take my pictures after lunch. Given the time pressure and weather conditions I am very pleased with what I managed to accomplish.
The light was somewhat changeable but mostly somewhat dull. I was eventually rewarded by a small spotlighting effect through the clouds that lit up the main vertical columns in the iron structures of the bridge which happily coincided with a small passenger train crossing the bridge. As the train emerged from the stone arch I tripped the shutter.

Each level is pretty small, about the size of a large Rite Aid. Both levels add up to only 25,000 sq ft., so each one is around 12,500. As one enters on the ground floor, apparel is on the left, the market is along the back wall and right side of the store, and self-checkouts and order pickup counter in the front on the right.
On the top level, there is a "tech" department (mostly mobile devices, smart speakers, watches, and accessories), Health and Beauty, a home section (softlines only), the baby department, greeting cards and stationery.

There are 2 new Target "flexible format" stores in downtown Philadelphia. Interestingly, both are located on Chestnut Street--about 7 blocks apart.
The Chestnut West store, seen here, is 25,000 sq. ft. and located on 2 levels. Target acquired the corner building (a former Qdoba) and expanded it by knocking down several adjacent blighted properties to the right. This area of Chestnut Street has seen a lot of investment in new or renovated retail over the last 5 years.
All the flex stores seem to tout their "order pickup" capability on the outside of the building. There is no CVS pharmacy inside this store, as there is a full-line CVS directly across the street.

All the Target Flex stores have this red overhang at the checkout, as well as this wall collage of sketches featuring a mix of local landmarks and scenes, as well as standard Target fare.
The store also has a second entrance/exit in the back onto a secondary street.
