Balerno, South West of Edinburgh
Have purchased my first ever FILM camera. A medium format Mamiya RB67. These photos are my first efforts. Brand new system - so may the results be lacking somewhat!! :) Nothing digital to aid me, and I really struggled.
The reason for the new kit? I wanted something to force me to slow down. Also, it only has PRIME lenses, so that would also instill a new way of looking at a scene. It will take time for this to trickle into the way I shoot, but ultimately, I think I will benefit in the long term.
All shot on Velvia 50 or 100 (a mix), using either the 50mm C, 90mm C or 180mm C lenses.
Scanned from 120 slide transparency on an Epson 750 PRO M Scanner.

**okay, I'm having a problem with those big monster group icons again.
I don't much like them. they can be made smaller and less obtrusive.
I love comments. and I love invites to groups, and I try to comment back to commenters and to groups.
but........after I comment I may delete the big icons.

Quite a bit of Weegee's fame rests on his medium format photographs of murder victims.
While these portraits are essentially unique in the history of photography, they are also controversial.
It is only my own opinion, which is all I have the right to say, but I don't feel these photographs should have been taken, even for art's sake. However that being said, I do not condemn it, and I do keep in mind the special qualities of his work. For me, his particular style of photography has a subtle side that I appreciate and learn from the more I look at it. And as I have stated in previous designs dedicated to him, he was a master darkroom technician.
I want to create a camera for Weegee that focuses upon the dead in a more spiritual way befitting them, and using this design to reconcile.
With that in mind, this design proposal seeks to give homage not only to Weegee but also to the photographs and to their subjects. Perhaps in his heart, Weegee was honoring them in some way, but here I propose that the camera the tied to an act of ritual for the dead.
Chinese Ming Qi has a long tradition, as other cultures like the Egyptians, to honor and provide for dead. Funerary objects are depicted and used in various ways. Although I am not an expert on this subject, what is different in the Chinese ritual is that these objects are burned to 'activate' them.
A vintage multiplying camera of the late 19th century is slightly modified for this design. A Chinese Ming Qi object, a house, to 'house' the transient murdered victims becomes a temporary body for the camera, which will take four simultaneous exposures very sharply by virtue of the adapted Speed Graphic flashgun. When the photographs are exposed, the Ming Qi house is detached from its innards (the multiplying camera is among the simplest kind of cameras, functionally) and the user then sets it afire, like incense (which also comes with the kit) thus giving this camera an honorary one-time use befitting the dead, whether the subject here be a gunned down criminal or a victim. A small side compartment holds a cigar to help the user to silently reflect during the ceremony.
The Ming Qi object in this case is further distinguished, as opposed to an ordinary dollhouse or toy, by various silver decorations and subtle styling commensurate with its purpose. In a subtle but coincidental way, this ritual act for the camera indirectly recalls Weegee's own theatricality and uniqueness in life.

Sí, la Leica fou la càmera que fonamentà l'inicis del domini absolut del format 35mm en la fotografía mundial. Però no fou de bon tros la prímera càmera en aprofitar els rotlles de pel·licula cinematogràfica. Ja la propia Kodak (de fet la seva divisió Rochester Optical) en feu ús.
La Kodak No. 00 Cartridge Premo fou la camara comercial més petita fabricada mai per Kodak, i una de les primeres amb pelicula de 35mm, tot i que NO amb format 135 (que no s'adoptà fins els anys 30, amb la Kodak Retina). De fet aquesta minúscula i barata càmera feia servir format 35, que feia servir paper numerat com en els formats mitjans (127, 120...) i no tenia perforacions. De fet és com una Kodak Brownie en miniatura. Es fabricà entre el 1916 i el 1922, just abans que es produissin els prototipus "null-series" de la Leica.

Yes, the Leica was the steping stone for the absolute domain of the 35mm format in world photography. But it was not quite the first camera to take advantage of cinematic film rolls. Already, Kodak itself (in fact its Rochester Optical Division) was using it.
The Kodak No. 00 Cartridge Premo was the smallest commercial camera ever manufactured by Kodak, and one of the first ones with 35mm film, although it did NOT use 135 format (which was not adopted until the 30s, with Kodak Retina). In fact, this tiny and cheap camera used format 35, which used numbered back-paper as in the average formats (127, 120 ...) and had no perforations. It's like a miniature Kodak Brownie. It was manufactured between 1916 and 1922, just before Leica's "null-series" prototype was produced.
