First time taking the 4x5 out since May. Plus getting my Fuji 125/5.6 and Schneider 135/4.7 back from service, time to crack open the kit. Only four sheets today, Agfa APX 100 (OG Stuff).
Bougainville's Skink (Lerista bougainvilli) from a basalt knoll along the Merri Creek corridor in northern metropolitan Melbourne. Taken on a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR coupled to a vintage wide-angle Nikon Nikkor-D 40mm 1:4 F.4 Bronica Zenza S2/EC medium format film lens using a Bronica ec-tl adapter from www.adrianololli.com. Shot at f.11 and hand-held, with a little fill-flash.
I love my bronica nikkor's..

J’avais peu de temps et je disposais d’un petit format.
Les deux contraintes sont compatibles.
J’ai simplifié de la vue. D’un côté la partie sombre et l’autre côté le boulevard, éclairé.
Il faut que ces grosses masses se complètent et s’accordent.
Sur la photo montrant le dessin et la vue on observe que la caméra de mon smartphone montre une vue élargie, (choisie par les ingénieurs de Samsung) tandis que mon dessin prend le parti d’un gros plan.
De loin il me semble plus aisé de dégager l’essentiel de l’accessoire.

An outtake from a new project I’ve been working on lately. This time it’s been a photography commission for a new bank here in Spain. I had to shoot 15 photographs in medium format film with my Rolleiflex camera. It’s been my first real photography job, so I was a little unsure, but I’ve loved working on it and I’ve learnt a lot. And I’m pretty happy with the results :D

Ambrotip de format 10x12 polzades (25,4x30,4 cm), realitzat amb una càmera Vageeswari, fabricada entorn 1980; objectiu CZJ Tessar f4,5/300mm; col·lodió reciclat, revelat amb revelador "estiu" amb sucre.
Es tracta de la meva primera placa humida en format ultra-gran de 10x12.
Les plaques de col·lodió es realitzen al moment, cobrint una placa de vidre o planxa metal·lica negra amb col·lodió i sals de iode i/o brom, sensibilitzat amb nitrat de plata. Aleshores s'ha de fer la fotografia i revelar-la en uns 5 minuts, abans no s'assequi la emulsió. És un dels processos fotogràfics més antics del món, inventat el 1851, i que dominà fins el 1880. Però ara ha resorgit, ja que les imatges, molt treballades, que dona són úniques, màgiques i i irrepetibles.

This is a 10x12" (24x30 cm) clear glass ambrotype, made with a Vageeswari ULF camera, made in India c.1980; CZJ Tessar f4.5/300mm lens. Mixed recicled collodion; "summer" sugar developer.
First trials of 10x12 ULF wet plate collodion.
The collodion plates are made covering a glass plate or black metal plate with collodion and salts of iodine and / or bromine, sensitized with silver nitrate. Then you have to take the photo and reveal it in about 5 minutes, before the emulsion dries. It is one of the oldest photographic processes in the World, invented in 1851, and which dominated photography until 1880. But now it has resurfaced, as the images, very elaborate to create, that it gives are unique, razor sharp, magical and unrepeatable.

La Kodak No.3A Folding Pocket és una càmara produida entre 1903 i 1915, i destinada per Kodak als amateurs avançats. De fet es defineix com a càmara de "butxaca", tot i que ha de ser una gran butxaca d'abric o anorak!
Aquesta càmara en concret és de la variant B-2, produida a Rochester (NY) entre 1904 i 1906. Compta amb un objectiu Goerz Dagor Doppel-Anastigmat Serie III f6.8 de 168mm, i un obturador Bausch & Lomb Automat. De fet és molt similar a una altra No.3A Folding Pocket que tinc, però es que aquesta adjuntava un molt poc usual portaplaques, juntament amb la tapa adaptada.
Aquesta càmara també feia servir carrets de 122, que fa dècades que no es produeixen. Però amb uns adaptadors hi he fet servir carrets de 120. I funciona!!!
El que més em fascina d'aquesta càmara, és que finalment he establert que es tracta del model que portà Frank Hurley mentre acompanyà a Ernst Shackleton en la seva odisseia antàrtica, entre 1914 i 1916. Primer pensava (com diuen moltes webs), que portava la molt més portable Kodak Vest Foldking Pocket (VFP), però una foto de Hurley a Elephant Island el mostra amb la funda de cuiro inmensa de la 3A Folding Pocket!
Hurley portava diverses càmeres de plaques, amb les que feu les principals fotos del inici de la expedició. Però quan el vaixell Endurance s'enfonsà, es va veure obligat a quedar-se amb la molt més "petita" 3A Folding Pocket, i 3 rodets. Les fotos que feu de la èpica supervivencia antartica durant més d'un any son mítiques.

Here you have a Kodak No.3A Folding Pocket camera, built in Rochester, NY, in 1904-1906. The No.3A camera was produced from 1903 to 1915, but this is the B-2 variant, so it's sure that was produced in 04-06.
A wonderful detail of this camera, and what convinced me to own it, was that I'm now quite sure it was the camera that Frank Hurley used in Shackleton's antartic oddisey, one of the most dangerous and wonderful trips ever done. Most web sites tell that it was a much more portable Kodak Vest Pocket Camera, but there's the picture of Hurley in Elephant Island with the huge case of a Kodak No.3A:

This camera is provided with a Bausch & Lomb Automat shutter and a Goerz Dagor Doppel-Anastigmat Serie III f6.8 / 168mm lens.
This camera used the 122 film format, long gone, but with an adaptor, modern 120 film could be used with some limitations (much more panoramic pictures and you have to guess how much film you have to roll for each pic). This one could also use "3A" size dry plates, as it has the plate back and even a double holder.
