Continuing my "Colonial Times At Valley Forge" series. I'm posting 2 from this sitting so the re-enactor can have her choice. She was wonderful to talk with and extremely cooperative.
This was shot inside the headquarters of General Varnum.

The Virginia Central Railroad extended to Clifton Forge, Alleghany County, Virginia in 1857 here, a point originally called Jackson River.
The modern two-story station building is a clapboard structure originally built by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) in 1906 as the railway's local offices. It became the passenger station in 1930 when the Gladys Inn was converted into the local YMCA building. It sits just east of a major locomotive fuel facility for CSX Transportation.
In 2013, Amtrak announced that it plans to move the stop to a new station built by the Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society. The building is a replica of the original 1891 station, and it is located on Main Street, east of the current facility.
I believe this is a 1941 Ford sitting next to the station.

Forjados a fuego
Nos hemos forjado a fuego
Cuando nos creíamos
Tan duros como el acero
Casi eternos e indestructibles
Llegaron la llama y el martillo
Y nos moldearon de nuevo
Nos dieron otras formas
Nuevos contornos, nuevas aristas
Nos hicieron totalmente distintos
Tuvimos que aprender a arder
Y a soportar todos los golpes
Pero por mucho que queme y duela
Intentaremos no rompernos del todo
Ser maleables para seguir con vida
Cada vez estaremos más viejos
Más retorcidos, más afilados
Más insensibles, más hartos de todo
Más preparados para la muerte
Pero más dispuestos para la batalla...

Entry for Colossal Castle Contest XVI - Classic Castle Category. UPDATE: Delighted to say I got the top honourable mention for this build, coming second out of 17 amazing entries.
Unsettling forces were rising in the Knightly Realms. To the South, the Black Knights were waxing as a conquering faction and had already taken two of the southern Lion Knight’s mountain fortresses, claiming that the land had been rightfully theirs by law and blood. The Lion Knights had allied with the Black Falcons in response and soon the latter were moving through Lion lands in preparation for the whole sale invasion all were now expecting.
Ellyn, the famous landlady of a famous Guarded Inn near the recently taken southern castle Elsinore, had made a lucky escape with some of her soldier customers, along with a blacksmith. Together, they had made the journey north to the defended town of Barimoor, where the blacksmith had a brother. This brother had offered her a modest room in his house. She returned the favour first by repainting the run down old forge in colours that reminded her of home. Ever resourceful, she then started serving drinks to his customers as they waited, and soon enough the three of them were doing a roaring trade together.
I'd been wanting to make a totally classic looking castle build for ages, so this seemed like the ideal opportunity. Since they never actually produced a classic tudor house with jettying back in the 80s, that's where I started. In some ways those original 80s/early 90s sets have never been surpassed for design. This build is a paean to my early castle sets, and Lego's wonderful printed panel pieces from that era, which though much maligned now, actually formed the bulk of all castle builds. Those red panels are genius because the lines are precisely one plate thick and they align perfectly with plates allowing you to create a seamless facade. Brilliant.
The rules say “In the style of” which I took to mean:
-Green baseplate
-Original 80s colours as far as possible. (I had to dip into my reddish brown stash, but I much prefer original brown as a shade and luckily had most of the pieces I needed).
-Extensive use of panel pieces for the bulk of the building
-As many studs exposed as possible, using almost exclusively conventional studs up building.
-Using mostly parts/moulds available in the 80s and early 90s. I only used 3 modern elements in total - all 3 in the anvils.
-Original weapons/tools/accessories and minifigures from lion knights/crusaders sets as stipulated (this was interesting - didn’t know for instance that lion knights had crossbows, but they did in set 6081). I couldn’t resist using my favourite classic curved doors which were in the first castle lego set I ever got - set 6034, still one of my favourites. They are also from 1990, but from a Black Knights set. But the Lion Knights set 6081 has the larger versions of the same doors so I didn’t feel too bad. I also used a Dragon Knights panel from 1993 to represent ornate ironwork... outrageous.
-SNOT only with period appropriate parts and in a very limited way - used here in the weather vane and for the vines.
-not too large, or too many pieces (though admittedly this is larger than any existing civilian set).
The Forge is bulky, brawny, and designed to take and dish out a beating. While significantly heavier than its competitor, the Skelatin, the Forge makes up for its bulk with a suite of thrusters on the rear of its skirting armor, arms, and legs, allowing it surprisingly swift maneuvering capabilities both on land and in space.
Typical armaments for the Forge range from light pistols to heavy machine guns. Here, it wields a plasma axe capable of superheating to rend through enemy frames like butter.

I started experimenting with my art generator again recently to see how the shapes might work when put to a different use. This is a low-res model.
I initially built the program in Flash about three years ago influenced by the processes and methodologies of Joshua Davis.

A quick shot from the weekend. I stopped by a friend's place and he was doing some forging.
It is an interesting process; heating up the steel, pounding it out and repeat.
The fire was pretty toasty, it heated up the garage to a balmy 25 degrees Celcius.
I composed the shot to get everything in line. The iPhone camera being off to one side slightly skews the symmetry so it can be difficult to pull off while holding a heavy camera/lens in the other arm.
I waited until Zac started grinding another piece of steel to get the sparks flying in what I call the bokeh section and in the iPhone screen.
