This building dates from circa early 16th century and as its name suggests was originally the village forge. It is now a private house.

The craft of the blacksmith dates back several thousand years and there was a time when virtually every village in the country would have a forge. The blacksmiths skills were highly valued as he was able to make and repair most metal objects in day to day use.

I did not survive because the flames never tried to overcome me, I survived because the fire inside was greater than the ones on the outside.

During the winter of 1777-78 the Continental Army, under the overall generalship of George Washington, camped at Valley Forge one day's march north and west of Philadelphia where the British Army was quartered for the winter. Some 20,000 strong, they were the 4th largest town on the North American Continent at the time.

Known as the Knox Covered Bridge, the original was built in 1851 at a cost of $843, but it washed away in an 1865 flood. It was replaced and then upgraded in the mid-20th Century with steel girders to take modern traffic across Valley Creek.

40 hours later, The Forge is finally finished! So, what is The Forge? The Forge is a mobile asteroid mining and processing facility. It uses six tugs to collect asteroids and bring them to one of the six mining platforms near the front of the ship. The asteroids are then put through grinding drums that break them into smaller pieces. Next, any desired ore, minerals, etc. are removed from the fragments and the waste is jettisoned from the ship. The ore, minerals, etc. are sorted into seperate containers. Eight huge reinforced plates protect the shipping containers from rogue asteroids and open to allow a transport to collect them.

The two bridges share the workload of the ship. The rear bridge is in charge of piloting, navigation and shipping. The forward bridge handles the mining and processing operations.

Alright, time for some tech specs!

The forge measures in at a whopping 156 studs in length (The biggest SHIP I've ever built). She's 62 studs at the widest (26 at the thinnest) and 38 studs tall. I did have two big landing gears built into it but it got WAY too heavy for them, thus the stand. It also has motor-driven grinding drums in the mining platforms and the big grey button in the middle of the ship opens and closes the armored plates. The plates where also supposed to be motor-driven but I could get them working for the life of me. Oh well!

I hope you all enjoyed watching this beast going together as I had building it (even if I did shout some horrific profanities from time to time)! Thanks for watching and for all the support!

The Forge

Seamus Heaney

All I know is a door into the dark.

Outside, old axles and iron hoops rusting;

Inside, the hammered anvil’s short-pitched ring,

The unpredictable fantail of sparks

Or hiss when a new shoe toughens in water.

The anvil must be somewhere in the centre,

Horned as a unicorn, at one end and square,

Set there immoveable: an altar

Where he expends himself in shape and music.

Sometimes, leather-aproned, hairs in his nose,

He leans out on the jamb, recalls a clatter

Of hoofs where traffic is flashing in rows;

Then grunts and goes in, with a slam and flick

To beat real iron out, to work the bellows.

Just putting some new supplies to use.

This vignette was purposely built simple as I was going for more of a Halo 3 feel.

My new harness Collection for Gacha Guardian, Xanthe for Maitreya Body only. - Redid the Gacha Key cause I wasn't happy with it.

Winter is coming, which means I need to shift indoors for my photography. It's trickier, still working out the studio setup, and making do with a shoestring budget. Maybe it's time for a Patreon to be setup?

What do you think?

A second entry into Round 2 of The Forge. If this looks rushed, that's because it is. :P I wanted to see whether I could keep up with the prodigious output of some of my co-competitors and, well, I can't. At least not really. But I did try.

This is the keyboard of a carillon. Every carillon keyboard looks different, with the shape of the batons really being the only constant, so I based this off of the carillon at Cal. I have seen that one in person, but it's been a while, and it's very difficult to find reference pictures of the full thing, so I really don't know how accurate this is.

Oh yeah, and the batons can move up and down. As they should.

(I didn't have enough 2x2 tiles in dark tan but was running out of time, hence the 2x2 tiles with one stud.)

It is not often you get smoke like this at the end of June in Georgia. This is the home of the forge at Foxfire Museum in Clayton/ Mountain City, Georgia. They work diligently to preserve the history of Appalachia. Made for a beautiful visit.

Picture was taken with a Canon EOS Rebel. ON a rare day when I had it with me and time to use it. I need to figure out how to get the photo data on it when I email it back to myself to post.

Traditional metalworking forge captured in full operation. Two craftsmen tend to the glowing furnace in this atmospheric workshop shot, where ancient techniques meet modern industrial settings. The dramatic interplay between the intense orange forge fire and cool fluorescent lighting creates compelling contrasts throughout this corrugated metal workspace.

Shot in a working blacksmith shop, this image documents the continuation of time-honored metalworking traditions. The warm glow of molten metal illuminates stacked materials, hand tools, and the weathered industrial environment where skilled artisans shape steel through fire and hammer.
