The Falls Church is an historic Episcopal church from which the city of Falls Church takes its name. The forerunner to The Falls Church was founded by landowner William Gunnel in 1730. The congregation met in Gunnel’s home until 1733, when the first building was constructed. Known as "William Gunnell's Church", the new wooden structure was designed and built by Colonel Richard Blackburn at a cost of 33,500 pounds of tobacco. Until that time, this area was served Pohick Church near Lorton. Like Pohick Church, the new church served Truro Parish, established by the colonial Virginia Assembly in May 1732 for the area north of the Occoquan River. Truro's first vestry met in November 1732. Michael Reagan allowed the church to be built on his land but failed to grant the deed. John Trammell later bought the land and, in 1746, sold the two-acre lot, including the church, the churchyard, and a spring, to the vestry of Truro Parish. At this time, it was known as the Upper Church. The Vestry Book first referred to it as the "Falls Church" on 28 November 1757 because of its location at the intersection of the road to the Little Falls of the Potomac River and the Middle Turnpike (leading from Alexandria to Leesburg, now Virginia Route 7 or Leesburg Pike, called West Broad Street in downtown Falls Church City). George Mason was elected vestryman in 1748; George Washington in 1762. By 1762, the wood building had fallen into decay and the vestry ordered a new brick building to be constructed on the same site. George Washington and George William Fairfax, as church wardens, assumed responsibility to contract for the new building in 1763. The new church was designed by Colonel James Wren, a member of the vestry. Begun in 1767 and completed in late fall 1769, it is the oldest remaining church building north of Quantico and is one of the oldest church structures in the U.S. In 1784, the Commonwealth of Virginia revoked the status of the Anglican Church as state church. In 1789, The Falls Church was abandoned and remained unoccupied until 1836 when reoccupied by an Episcopal congregation. Francis Scott Key was a lay reader of this congregation, as was Henry Fairfax, who used his own funds to restore the building during 1838 and 1839. During the Civil War the church was used by Union troops as a hospital and later as a stable. Use of the building for worship services resumed after the war. The interior was repaired after the war. The Federal government paid for damage caused by Union forces. The sanctuary has now been in continuous use since about 1873. 115 E. Fairfax St., Falls Church, Va. 1 April 2021

From Stewart Field: This shows the Kingsdown Protection Association shortly after its formation in 1957. It was taken by the Western Daily Press, probably in Kingsdown secondary school.
The forerunner to the Routemaster was the RT, seen here on the left. RTW (the W meaning 'wide') is RTW185 (KLB915) is seen alongside RM1000 (100XBL) the 1000th Routemaster to be made. They're both seen at the London Bus Museum, Cobham.
History
On March 31, 1913, Faisanterie Buitenlust, the forerunner of the current modern animal park Burgers' Zoo, opens its doors to the public for the first time. Since its foundation by Johan Burgers, the first owner and the one who named the animal park in Arnhem, the park has always remained a real family business.
Already from its inception the zoo caused a sensation due to its daring new organisation, which naturally is in the way the animals' accommodations are shaped as well as in the way the experiences for the visitors are created. Burgers' Zoo has a rich history, which has shaped the zoo into the way it is today, and as you can still find it now in the wooded area just north of Arnhem.

The largest indoor mangrove in the world
With a surface area of 3,000 square meters, visitors venture into the largest indoor mangrove in the world. From the beach bordering a Belizean town square, the mysterious world that is the mangrove calls. Further inland, the mangrove forest slowly transforms into a tropical dry forest, where hundreds of butterflies in all shapes, sizes, and colours are dancing in the air.

The forerunner of Seung Dong Presbyterian Church, Gondanggol Church, was established in what is now Taepyeong-no by American missionary Samuel F. Moore in 1893, some nine years after Korea’s first Presbyterian missionary, Horace N. Allen, arrived in Korea.
Moore was a rather interesting character — he was very passionate about his work, he learned Korean in about six months by living away from the usual foreigner haunts of the day, and he put a lot of his effort into spreading the word among Korea’s social underdogs, including women and baekjeong, the “untouchable” class of Joseon society.
As for the building, the church attained its present form — for the most part — by 1912. It’s an imposing, red brick Romanesque structure, although the white entrance area was added on in 1959.

Merezhovsky proposes Leonardo ad a progressive character whose rationalism and humanism is opposed by sectarian conservatism. In this scene- which Fortescue- Brickdale has invented Leonardo is shown introducing his latest idea, the flying machine, to Lodovico while other members of his court look on. The famous priest, Savanarola, at far left, stands for the Church's hostility to progress. Lodovico's wife, Beatrice d'Este, and he rival for his affections, Cecilia Galliena, are shown awaiting the outcome of Leonardo's latest challenge to the Duke's tolerance. Brickdale's rendition of these two ladies echoes the famous portraits that Leonardo and his assistant, Ambrogio de Predis, made of them in their lifetimes, further imbuing the work with its hero's spirit.
