Equal length pose with foreground element here. Camera performed well here to not include the tip of the bottle in the focus points.

Found an old video I captured of a spider making a web. Once you get past the awful editing, it really is quite beautiful.

This one came out in a unique way and editing was moderate with regards to color. This picture was actually taken a couple years back . . . with an old Sony Coolpix! I still have it as an emergency backup, and it takes some really great photos if given the chance!

Foreground is my favorite umbrella. Ever since I was in elementary school I always wanted my own ducky umbrella ,but I didn't get a chance to buy one until my Senior year of highschool. I use him everyday whe we go out on sunny walks around the neighborhood. Background is my usual doll photoshoot spot! You may remember it from all those lush and beautiful vines of weeds dripping over the brick in most of my pictures! ..yeah.. well... my Dad just trimmed it back so.... there's not going to be much of that for a while... oh well.

Conventional wisdom in landscape photography says that your composition should have foreground, middleground, and background elements.

But conventional wisdom probably also says that if your foreground is pink camellia blossoms they should probably be in focus, if your middleground tree is about a hundred and fifty freaking feet tall there should probably be some clue about that, and that something 240,000 miles away probably doesn't really count as "background," exactly.

Back to the bridges: this is the surprisingly easy location to drive to, on the northern side of the Calliope River. A loaded coal train is in the foreground, while an empty train heads across the other bridge in the background. If a photographer was very lucky, it would be possible to see a third train coming off the Moura line through the spans of these bridges. 16 March 2024.

It has been a long time, probably decades, since I'd spent much time in Gladstone. Sure, I've based myself there while photographing the Moura line in particular, and taken shots around Gladstone, but haven't really taken much time to poke around Gladstone itself.

So a mate and I drove there for a three night stay, to have a decent look around. I had a few things I wanted to check for future reference, but the trip was so successful I got most of the shots I thought might be possible, plus a few more besides.

In the foreground are the stumps of trees that Usutu Pulp planted in a wetland. In the background is Sappi's burned out monoculture.

Downtown is surprisingly empty on a Tuesday night, I came to find out. Or maybe it was the fact that we were there so early. So I'm in the foreground holding on to a bunch of t-shirts and in the background is my car. Downtown seems to always be in a constant state of construction. I've been living in the city for 2.5 years now and I can honestly say that I haven't seen any sort of progress and if there has been progress it's been backwards. Because of this, parking and driving is a monumental test of endurance and skill. Tonight I opted to have the valet park my car rather than scouting for a place to park because parking on the street is like looking for the ivory billed woodpecker - there are reports of sightings but no one has actually seen one firsthand.

365 Days Group

The Challenge: Take one self portrait each day for a year.

The main thing is that you are both the photographer and the subject. For the purposes of this group, any photo which you took that contains any part of your body counts. You can use tripods, timers, or whatever else you need just as long as you take a photo yourself.

I really do not like this plant/weed... but absolutely love how it turned out in this shot. The plant/weed is being lit from the back by sunlight. I also held a small 12-inch reflector camera-right to lighten up the right side of the plant/weed.

In the foreground is just a glimpse of the iron ring at the top of the tower; also showing the dome before it was clad with larch(?) strips. I was not involved in this work.
